Oogie, without having completely read (and even less understood) your problem, I'd suggest first to try creating a new spreadsheet from scratch and then copy-pasting the data from the old sheet into the new one. Just to exclude there is some ancient inconsistency in your document which causes the problem. So what you have to do is filing a bug with a description which allows developers (and QA people) to reproduce your bug reliably. There is a detailed Howto in the wiki[1].
