You can click any single cell in the column you want to sort and click one of the sort buttons [A-Z], [Z-A]. This will sort the area of adjacent used cells. Alternatively you can select the whole range and call the Data>Sort dialog. And you can click a single cell and call the sort dialog which will select the area of adjacent used cells as well. Only one thing does not work: You must not select any part of a table because this sorts the selected part. Spreadsheets do not have any concept of tables.
