Adjust it until the preview looks right. The second setting describes the ingoing numerals. USA for M/D/Y dates and point decimals, UK for D/M/Y dates, German for D.M.Y dates and comma decimals etc. Always check the "special numbers" option. In the preview you can override the general settings for individual columns. In the screenshot the ZIP column is marked as text. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: users+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

@manuel songokuh No, it works but you have to do a little bit more with .txt or .csv formatted files. Character encoding will be taken from the "Locale setting" applied globally to LibreOffice (Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Languages). So, when opening documents (.txt or .csv) with a different encoding--for Writer use the "Text - choose encoding" (File -> Open and use the drop down menu to select). And in Calc on opening, the Text import dialog will allow you to choose the character set encoding and language of the source .txt or .csv -- applied by columns if need be.
