[libreoffice-users] Re: table - automatically copy text

2012-02-02 Thread paulwhitehurst
Thanks folks.

I think the solution is in the use of fields. I confess I have little
understanding of them, and the help resources frankly aren't very helpful.

Can someone suggest how I can set up a field where the output is copied to
the same field in other places of the document?

Paul.

Hi :)
The help-files have fallen into a gap between 2 teams and we still haven't
resolved that as both teams are a tad busy. The best documentation is at
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications
or the official site
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/
The wiki has more and more recent versions but everything on the official
site is on the wiki.
Regards from
Tom :)

I've figured out how to use cross-references fields. That seems to do what
I need.

Thanks again,
Paul.

Hi.
If I understand you correctly, you can create fields and then
have them displayed in other locations. I.e. entered in one place
and displayed in many.

I entered abcd into cell a1 and then in cell b1 entered =A1 and
the text was copied without error to cell b1. Is that what you
are looking for ?

Probably not! What you are describing is clearly the use of cells of
a spreadsheet (Calc) document; I think we all know you can do this in
a spreadsheet. The questioner is asking instead about automatically
copying text between the cells of a table in a text (Writer) document.
