Re: [libreoffice-users] problems on Ubuntu

2023-09-03 Thread Philip Jackson

Yes, it looks like you got a box with old software. You can download up to date
versions from https://ubuntu.com/  where the many different flavors of Ubuntu
are also listed.

You'll almost never get the latest, latest LO versions from Ubuntu. The LO
website lists current download as 7.6.0 for cutting edge stuff and 7.5.5 for
more stable business deployments.

I have LO 7.5 on my Windows10 box but for my day to day use of Writer and Calc
I don't notice any functional advantages in 7.5 over the 7.3.7.2 which is
supported by Ubuntu in their LTS 22.04 os and which is my main every day work
station.

But as a general principle, it's never good to fall too far behind with old
versions.

From the info you just posted, the Build ID would indicate that you have a
build intended for Ubuntu 20.04 which is three years out of date. The 20.04
LTS was replaced by LTS 22.04 in April of 2022. Next LTS should be in
24.04.

I'm using UbuntuStudio LTS 22.04 and my LO version is 7.3.7.2 and the
package manager is quoting 1:7.3.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.3

It can be a configuration or shell problem.  If you start it in terminal
with command line and don't have error messages,  try ctrl+tab  for
tasks or enlarging the icon.  It happens to me sometimes with
applications, which open minimized or in different dimensions.

Hi Rogier,

When I click on the icon, it shows me an open file. for some reason they
have been minimized. The minimized file appears on the desktop, but it goes
in the upper left hand corner on my dual screen system, right where trash
is. and it is hard to tell, but I can then drag it and enlarge it, and
things are back to normal.
What is still unclear is what caused this to happen, for I have no
awareness of anything I did differently.

Assuming you did not install the Flatpak version:

Go to the folder with the calc document in it.  Right click an empty
space and select "Open in terminal".  Then type this in the terminal and
enter:

libreoffice --calc

Does calc open?  If so, close it.  Is there any response in the terminal?

Then type this in the terminal and enter:
libreoffice --calc

Replace with the filename.
Does calc open?  If so, close it.  Is there any response in the terminal?
