The web site that Jon pointed me to is a bit dated. But if "yum" is
replaced with "dnf", it works. The National Weather Service RADAR loops
now work.

I thank everyone that tried to help. I'm marking this issue solved.

I wonder if it makes use of UPnP? You might want to look in that.

Don't use KDE myself, but Xfce's "Applications->Settings->KDE System
Settings->Workspace->Desktop Behavior->Accessibility" allows you to
set a bunch of accessibility things (screen reader, sticky keys,
gestures, etc.)

Just an idea.

Turning off assitive technologies

2016-07-27 Thread Paolo Galtieri
This is probably off topic, but I was playing around with the universal
access technologies on Fedora 24, and I'm in a weird state.

I enabled it in Gnome Classic, but there doesn't seem to be a way to
turn it off.

If I logout from Gnome Classic and login using the MATE desktop and go
to the assistive technologies entry in the control panel it shows it as
not enabled, i.e the checkbox is not checked. However, the system is
still saying every character I type. I would have thought that if I
logout and change desktops it should disable the universal access
technologies.

Anybody have an idea how to turn it off?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Paolo

Re: application to listen to on-line broadcasts? [SOLVED]

2016-07-27 Thread William

Good morning,

I'm now thinking that for the long term, I'm probably better off waiting
for chromium to become available in Fedora. A concern is that wikipedia
implies that code for flash-like functionality is not included in
chromium. So for the short term, I'm back to flash.

I am almost certain that 2-3 years ago, I installed flash from the adobe
web site. But it never worked. A short while ago, I tried "dnf info
flash" to see if I have it, and if so, what version. I must be
mis-understanding the dnf man page. I got this:

bash.2[~]: dnf info flash
Fedora 23 - x86_64 3.5 MB/s | 43 MB
00:12
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Free 511 kB/s | 457 kB

RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Nonfree - Updates207 kB/s | 54 kB
00:00
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Free - Updates 350 kB/s | 160 kB
00:00
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Nonfree 336 kB/s | 156 kB
00:00
Fedora 23 - x86_64 - Updates7.6 MB/s | 24 MB
00:03

Last metadata expiration check: 0:00:07 ago on Wed Jul 27 09:31:01 2016.
Error: No matching Packages to list
bash.3[~]:

First, how do I determine whether or not I already have flash, and if
so, which version?

Second, If I don't already have flash, what's the best way to get the
right flash? And then what do I need to do so Firefox launches it when,
for example, I want to see a flash video in the yahoo finance web site?
(and then there's those National Weather Service RADAR loops!)

Third, what did "dnf info flash" actually do? Do I now have a bunch of
files that I should delete? If yes, where are they?

Thank-you for your help.
Bill.

(p.s. This is one of those rare cases where I wish I could change the
title or topic of this thread!)

I use F24, a Bluetooth headset, and KDE. The GUI may be different but I
 think gnome
 should have similar settings.

On my settings for the headset I have "trusted" checked. Then there is
 another "tab"
called "Advanced Settings". There is a drop down box for "Accept
 Automatically" and I
 have "Trusted Devices" selected.

When I power on my headset it is connected automatically.

Here's progress:
Use bluetoothctl and set "trust" on for the speaker device.
After the next re-boot the device connected when powered on just like
before. (I just didn't know about the existence of bluetoothctl)

Hi Mitja,

If I am understanding you correctly, then there is no such thing. There
are no "attributes" that do any kind of "calculation". Operational
attributes are attributes internal to the server, and these attribute
are not returned to the client by default. That is there only special
quality.

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Directory_Server/10/html/Administration_Guide/Examples-of-common-ldapsearches.html#searching-for-operational-attr

It sounds like you need some type of custom plugin to do this
calculation for you.
there is something like computed attributes, but it requires a plugin to
provide a compute function and the it can also register a search filter
rewriter, see:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Directory_Server/10/html/Plug-in_Guide/Plugin_Programming_Guide-Function_Reference-Functions_for_Managing_Computed_Attributes.html

But I think it is not widely used and requires some experimentation

I'm going to ask the obvious question: Is your Linux computer in the
same subnet as the printer? (i.e. 172.16..)

Yes

Is that the IP of the printer?

For what it's worth, even if it is, browsing to that IP may not do you
any good. They may simply have the printer listening, without
providing
any interface. That's what my HP LaserJet 4M does (it's there on the
network, listening and printing, but doesn't provide any kind of
interface to the outside world).

Exactly. It does not let me browse.

Is that the IP of the router?

The printer's IP is the same as the wireless router (i.e. 172.16.100.1
and the Linux system is 172.16.100.x)

In that case, I'd expect that the router is acting as an internet
printing server, and ought to have some kind of interface. But
you may
have more luck going to the root of the server (instead of directly to
the printer address), , to see if that gives
you an interface.

Tried that also, and it did not show anything on the browser. The
process list on the DLink Router shows a program named ippd running
which provides the interface to the printer.

Can you access the router's print server port via telnet?

telnet 172.16.100.1 631

If not try disabling the Fedora's firewall.

Also, last week i had a problem with a customer, and it was he
configured a wrong net mask in the Linux box.

I suppose that ping and traceroute to the printserver's IP give the
expected results, did you tried it?

[389-users] Operational attributes

2016-07-27 Thread Mitja Mihelič

Hi!

We have an application, that does not honour the shadowExpire attribute.
It does however use a search filter to find users. The idea is, that we
would extend the search filter to include an additional attribute. We
would then set this attribute to 0 or 1 and the filter would NOT return
users that have it set to 0. Missing or set to 1 and the user gets returned.

The search filters themselves do not provide any advanced comparisons
like: if (shadowExpire =< today) then...
Operation attributes seem to provide some more flexibility there. We
could solve the problem if we could set up an operational attribute that
would do

if (shadowExpire =< today) then
  return 0
else
  return 1

Is it possible to add one's own operational attributes to 389DS? If it
is, how should it be done the right way?

It is a ZjStream printer (also termed as a GDI / host based printer by
many) where the rendering takes place on the Windows PC. On Linux, the
printing is made possible using the foo2zjs driver or the HPLIP. I have
tried using those drivers while configuring it as a network printer but it
does not work. Whenever the printer is connected to the USB port on the
Linux system and switched on a firmware file is pushed to it. I think
that's not happening when its connected to the print server.

Back in F22 or so after pairing the device merely turning it on caused

Several months ago, now on F23, (not sure when this problem appeared)
that changed and after turning the speaker on, I have to go into
Bluetooth Settings where the device appears as "Disconnected", select it
and activate the "Connection" switch several times and it will
eventually connect and be available for selection in the "Sound
Settings" after which it works fine.
 Is there a path back?

The setup is up to date Fedora 23 using Gnome 3.18.1-1.fc23.x86_64

One thing that "confuses" me is that within the KDE settings there is, as I
said, an
"Accept Automatically" choice. But if you use bluetoothctl there doesn't
appear to be an
equivalent setting in the command line interface.

I don't currently have GNOME installed on my system in order to check if my
headset would
connect automatically in that environment.

is there an actual fedora systemd "run-postinsts" package?

2016-07-27 Thread Robert P. J. Day

not sure if i'm looking in the right place, but when i'm using
openembedded to build for embedded systems, i can include a
systemd-related package named "run-postinsts" with which i can
effectively simulate firstboot; systemd service that runs on
firstboot, then deletes itself.

i figured i could examine its structure with the corresponding
fedora package, but i see nothing that looks like that. what would be
the analog in fedora if not a separate systemd package? or is that
something fedora folks would just create manually?

There are other /dev/disk/by-xxx links there as well. Depends on use-case,
but by-label is the one I use most.
