The ability to run the "resolvectl" command and not get the error message you
cite.

man resolvectl

tells you about the command.  And, if you read the discussion I had with Tom H
you'd know my opinion
on what it brings to the table and my understanding of what you wanted to know.

$ resolvectl query _gateway
_gateway: resolve call failed: Could not activate remote peer.

grep myhostname /etc/nsswitch.conf

Abrt not working because retrace.fedoraproject.org is down for weeks?

2020-08-06 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hi,

for quite some time (weeks/months) ABRT does not seem to work anymore,
because fedora retrace servers are down:

Hochladen des uReport zum Server »https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf«

Effectively this means, fedora users are not able to report
application/system crashes anymore.

Is this a known issue?
What is taking s long to resolve it?

Thanks & best regards, Clemens

Is this an already installed system?

If so,

dnf hist list 1

Will tell you the date and number of packages initially installed.

dnf hist info 1

Will tell you what was done during the install with a list of all packages
installed.

Apps that have the same versions and features across multiple distros,
oddball apps that you would otherwise have to build from source, legacy
apps using tools that are being removed from many distros (
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1737933).

In many fields, there are projects that involve individual researchers
spread around the globe, working in different institutions with different
linux distros and different update schedules. Flatpaks provide a way for
all members of a project to use a common version and configuration of key
apps.

Developers are a scarce resource for open source projects. These days,
much of the heavy lifting is done by people involved with large scale
processing. This has resulted in decisions that aren't welcomed by
individuals with personal systems (systemd, homed), deprecation of older
versions of popular tools (python2), and less attention to desktop apps and
their supporting libraries that aren't widely used by the large-scale
community. You see this effect in the time it takes to deal with
different bug reports. Native ports of apps that aren't used in
large-scale processing may be slow to appear and have reduced
functionality due to messing support libraries.

>From an app developer's perspective, flatpaks reduce the headaches sorting
out differences between distros and releases. This means fewer bug
reports of the form "your app works on distro A, but fails on distro B".

Yup, there was an auto bug. I'll fix it. I messed up one of the spec file
conditionals while trying to get EL 7, which I couldn't convert to Python
3, up to the latest version.

Trying to update today and I get:
