Jeff is correct.  And GitHub's "jasper-software" team has now upgraded xv to handle
"webp" images.  You can read the details here:
The discussion of the upgrade is in issue #7, which is here:

The upgrade has been incorporated into the RPM Fusion Nonfree repository in
response to bug #6702
"https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6702;.
The new xv is in release 4.1.1-1.

I haven't seen this warning since before COVID. There are lots of

Maybe replace the current fgrep script with one that prints more details.
The last update I did was the first time I have ever seen this message.
Why are the grub maintainers not updating their scripts to avoid this?

You can't expect perfection from reverse engineering, but open source
means you get the benefit of "given* enough* eyeballs, all bugs are
shallow".

The previous problem I had was about a year ago caused by a simple mistake.
A patch was already available by the time I encountered the problem. The
current issue has been difficult to pin down.

>From https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/nouveau/-/issues/213: 2 weeks ago:

A post at
https://lore.kernel.org/nouveau/CACrD=+-duomkwxe0x5m5vmfs_jijjpgnqvxuq+qimie99vm...@mail.gmail.com/
has what seems to be a very plausible explanation for the cause of the
problem,
identifies and analyzes the source code responsible, and provides patches
inline
and via links. Can these be reviewed and if acceptable merged into the
project?

This doesn't solve the issue, but today Dave Airlie posted:

"This seems to have existed for ever but is now more apparant[SIC]"
It is sad how many people switch to proprietary drivers or change distros
rather than
helping pin down the conditions that trigger a bug and then helping test
proposed fixes.

Yeah the akmods MOSTLY worked fine. Sometimes I would have to rm -f the
package and let it rebuild for some reason and occasionally builds would
fail. Not a good end user experience especially if you're not that
technical.

I switched to AMD and for the most part it's just "worked". Previously
with a RX580 and now with a RX 6550XT.

Other than the crazy graphics card prices, I have no regrets and have no
plans to switch back.

I would assume (without checking) that it prints to whatever you have
set as your default printer in your desktop Settings panel.

Xfce never figured that out.

And CUPS does not have a default printer that I can find.

The cups package includes /usr/sbin/lpadmin.

lpadmin has a "-d" option to set a default printer.

The Fedora 38 man page for lpadmin shows the option in
the header but does not describe it in the text.
