html/css display on fedora is different than from other os ( windows, ...)

2012-10-21 Thread mike lan
Hello

why is html/css display on fedora on firefox and google chrome alike is
different than on other os ? some times the size of a font can break the
display of a site which looks right on windows and not on fedora.

is there a way to work around this issue by tweaking some settings on
firefox and google chrome ?

thanks

 Mike:
 Give this a try:
 1. Open up a terminal with ALT Fn2. (or Fn3 or Fn4 ...)
 2. Enter xfwm4 . Note that there is a space between the 4 and the
 ampersand.

If that works, add xfwm4 to the Application Autostart list under
 Session and Startup.

I would expect that compiling PHP for postgresql is not required if you
install the php-pgsql package but restarting httpd (/sbin/service httpd
 restart) would be required.

I'm just uncomfortable with 'which part do you not understand' smack
down knowing how difficult it is to recompile php and that the whole
point of modularizing various installation options is to make that
 unnecessary.

 Craig

Re: securing a fedora 12 pc on a lan

2010-07-28 Thread mike lan

 If you

 (a) use default F12 installation options (firewall and SELinux turned on),
 (b) don't give away your user and root passwords to anyone (and use strong
 password choices),
 (c) don't do any ignorant changes to the system (ie. understand what you
 are
about to do *before* you actually do it),

you'll be pretty safe from anyone gaining any access to your F12 box. In
general, Linux (Fedora in particular) is considered more safe than windows
 in
 this regard.

So if you try not to do anything stupid, the default Fedora installation
 will
provide you with quite good security.

 HTH, :-)

It sounds like you are doing something that is probably contrary to your

 cable.

 Modify the firewall configuration.
