I think Bob's point is that when he modified his he took a copy first, and that 
this is very handy later for finding things you have changed.


In particular, he shows you the relevant thing he changed.

You can see that you login.conf has this line, commented out. Take a copy of 
your login.conf like Bob did, then modify the original. The commented out 
version is _conventionally_ the default value. Uncomment it and make it like 
Bob's.

Sorry for the reply snafu.

Let me toss in a related question then.. would disabling either of the
graphics adapters help matters possibly?  I am about to begin looking into
that also..  But to answer your question, I don't know.  I guess I was
afraid of it not registering when off the dock and then for some reason not
sending display to the laptop screen.  But I will definitely try that at
the end of the day.

It's not clear to me what you're trying to do.  Are you trying to
get the laptop screen to turn off when you close the lid, but keep
the other two monitors on?  I don't think that's a supported option
(other than manually turning it off in the control panel).

Something has changed and replies don't automatically go to the list 
anymore...


If you set the monitor configuration to have the two external monitors 
on and the laptop screen off, what happens when you push the power 
button on the dock?  Hybrid graphics cause a lot of problems, so that 
could be an issue as well.

I run KDE, not Gnome, so I don't know how much this translates, but in
KDE you can go to System Settings -> Power Management -> When laptop
lid is closed and choose "do nothing."  You have to set it for all
power status categories (AC, Battery, Low Battery).
Works for me.  I used to know how to tweak this by modifying a file,
but that was a few years ago, and I'm sure it's changed.  I've gotten
lazy and just use the GUI for it, now.
