Use the dnf history command to see what happened.
This shows all the transactions:
$ dnf history

And this show the detail of one of the transactions
$ dnf history info

Now we're entering the space of "DNF mess", such as hiding some things
from the user or printing odd error messages, because the DNF developers
think that's helpful.

You haven't installed "nut" before, but only "nut-client",
so you cannot "update nut". You would need to install it first.

However, if you visit the ticket in the Fedora Updates System, which
I've linked before,

  https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2017-de0f8ded67

somebody points out that "freeipmi" from the updates-testing repo is
needed for the latest "nut", and the packagers have missed that. You
may need to fetch freeipmi from its update ticket manually or enable
the updates-testing repo temporarily.

  dnf --enablerepo=updates-testing install nut

At least you now see the latest nut- package updates. Good. That's
progress.

What's the output of this command?

grep enabled /etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo

If nothing else, you can go here,

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=970458

download the appropriate binary rpms, and install them with

dnf -C install [rpm name]

in the directory where they are.

FOr some reason, you have 'nut' already downloaded and it's not getting
it from the cache. That doesn't match the newer version of nut-client
you are trying to install, and therefore failure.

I bet "sudo dnf clean all" will clear this up.

It makes no sense to run that command before you see the latest packages
available in the "updates" repo.

Also, adding --refresh again and again only forces dnf to redownload
the repo metadata again and again, which also makes no sense, if the
metadata haven't changed.

Of course you may erase/uninstall packages and start from scratch with
what you see in the repos _currently_ as a workaround, but it doesn't
explain why you don't see the latest nut- updates. Perhaps the mirror
you use currently is out-of-date.

This is only an old package in the base 'fedora' repo.
Why don't you troubleshoot this a bit more to list available
packages in all repos including the 'updates' repo?
For example with:

  dnf list nut\*

Also show what "nut" packages are installed:

  rpm -qa nut\*

This -14.fc26 build is a much newer one from the 'updates' repo.
If you no longer see the corresponding "nut" base package from the
same set of builds with the -14.fc26 release, check your repo configuration
until you see the updates again. Or downgrade nut-client, so you can
install the corresponding old "nut" package with -7.fc26 release.

Re: update fails

2017-09-29 Thread Andre Robatino
The problem is that the new version of nut depends on a new version of freeipmi
( https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2017-5f8e18be61 ) which is
still in updates-testing. Installing it manually allows nut to update. The
freeipmi update has been eligible to be pushed to stable for weeks now. There
is probably a similar issue in F25.

Getting closer. You still left out the command you ran and the list
from dnf of what it was going to do. It's best to just include the
complete output starting from where you type until you get a command
prompt again. From your original post, I couldn't tell if dnf was
trying to install nut-2.7.4-7 or nut-client-2.7.4-14 or both.

Anyway, it looks like you are getting an old version of nut for some
reason. Maybe your mirror is not up-to-date or your cache is old. How
did you get that version of nut-client installed?

Try running "dnf install --refresh nut" and see if that solves it.

dnf -x nut-client update
will exclude this package from the update and allow the rest to
complete. If it doesn't resolve after a while, open a bugzilla against
nut-client and put this information in it. The package maintainer will
then be able to resolve the issue in the spec files.

It looks like a packaging error. For some reason, those executables are
in both subpackages. You have to make sure you are updating both of
them at the same time. You again didn't include the full output, so the
useful information is missing, but it looks like "nut-client" is
included in the update, but not "nut".
