[one-users] Sunstone VS Onemc

2011-04-06 Thread KINGLABS

Hi

I have recently installed OpenNebula 2.2 for mainly checking sunstone. I
would like to

know how it would compare with OneMC .

Also I realized that I do not have option to console(VNC) to the vm
from sunstone interface which is very basic need , unlike onemc.

What are the advantages of using sunstone ? Is there any guide for using
Sunstone ?

I had a similar problem on Ubuntu (as a host). The problem had something to
do with the apparmor configuration for kvm being too strict. I don't have
the details handy, but you may want to look into that.

Re: [one-users] VM remain boot status.

2011-04-06 Thread Khoa Nguyen
Hi,
Where can I find hepervisor logs ?
I think there is not problem in generating the deployment file. It just
occurs when I try to suspend it , then resuming it.
 From then later, everytime I create a VM, it remain boot state. To solve
this problem,only one way is that restart front end and cluster node and
don't suspend VM.

Hi all

I am able to run the ttylinux.img on one of my nodes. The problem is I

By the way, what's the user name and password for ttylinux.img
downloaded from the opennebula.org website? I have to make sure I
didn't make any mistake on this.

Re: [one-users] Setting up private networks for VM

2011-04-06 Thread Prakhar Srivastava
Hi,
Thannx for the reply.
Using two NIC sections per VM (one has eth0 bridge and the other one has
eth1 as bridge) But I have a single bridge created on each of my cluster
nodes i.e. eth0. When I insert NIC for private network which has bridge as
"eth1", I get a error that eth1 bridge does not exist and the deployment
fails.eth0 acts as a bridge between my public network and the network
interfaces of VMs. This works fine.

I want that a second NIC can be added to the VMs but it fails because of the
reason mentioned above.(there is no eth1 bidge).

2011-04-06 Thread Zaina AFOULKI
Hi Jaime,

Thank you so much for the explanation. You've cleared up a lot of my
confusion. I feel the scenario you explained should be added to the
networking guide [1] to better illustrate how network isolation and the
management of MACs and IPs works.

In my setup, the hook is adding ebtables rules as expected and so I'll
be running some more tests... and will probably come back with a couple
more questions.

Thanks!

I suggest you to look into the deployment file (deployment.0) for the VM.
which is generated by opennebula. There could be an issue with the
hypervisor (check the hypervisor logs in the cluster nodes)
Regarding stop and resume commands, are you getting to the stop state when
you are stopping the VM. You can only perform resume operation from stopped
or suspended state which most probably is the reason for "wrong state to
perform action"

[one-users] Problem with ebtables OpenNebula

2011-04-06 Thread marwen marwen
Hi,

I'm using ebtables to isolate virtual network in OpenNebula.
I have a problem when OpenNebula execute ebtables-kvm script.
In fact, the log file mention no error "Wed Apr 6 18:22:02 2011 [HKM][D]:
Message received: EXECUTE SUCCESS 146 ebtables-start".
But there are no rule added to the list rules of ebtables in the physical
host where the VM is allocated.

###
sudo ebtables -L

Bridge table: filter

Bridge chain: INPUT, entries: 0, policy: ACCEPT

Bridge chain: FORWARD, entries: 0, policy: ACCEPT

Bridge chain: OUTPUT, entries: 0, policy: ACCEPT
###

And when I execute manually the script on the worker node, the rules are
added.
In the oned.conf we put this configuration

###
VM_HOOK = [
name  = "ebtables-start",
on= "running",
command   = "ebtables-kvm", # or ebtables-xen
arguments = "one-$VMID",
remote= "yes" ]

VM_HOOK = [
name  = "ebtables-flush",
on= "done",
command   = "ebtables-flush",
arguments = "",
remote= "yes" ]
###

can you help me to fix this problem

Best Regards

[one-users] Proyecto de propuesta de Google SoC

2011-04-06 Thread Toni Pizà
Adjunto el proyecto de propuesta sobre Summer of Code que le he passado a
Borja Sotomayor, a ver que os parece. Gracias por vuestro tiempo:

¡Buenas noches Borja!

http://www.lsi.upc.es/~cblum/

detenimiento. Por si te interesa:

Re: [one-users] Setting up private networks for VM

2011-04-06 Thread Jaime Melis
Hi Prakhar,

The scenario you've described is very easily achievable, you only need to
create another private network vnet instance (created with the onevnet
utility) and add two NIC sections per VM, one for the public NIC and one for
the private one.

It has one drawback, though, if you do this you will not be able to use the
ebtables hook for network isolation, therefore someone using one of your VMs
might be able to do MAC spoofing. But other than that it should work
perfectly.

cheers,
Jaime

Re: [one-users] Need some explanation on vnets and network setup

2011-04-06 Thread Jaime Melis
Hi Zaina,

Virtual network devices (tun/tap devices) are created by the hypervisors
(libvirt-KVM, Xen...) before executing a VM. These tun/tap devices are
actually processes which are connected both to the VM and to bridge in the
host machine. It doesn't really matter what name they have, since the
hypervisor is the one who keeps track of that. And it's expected for VMs to
have tun/tap devices with the same name across different hosts.

Regarding the network isolation, consider the following scenario:

* net1: 192.168.1.0/24
* net2: 192.168.2.0/24
* Host1 - vm1_1 in net1
* Host1 - vm1_2 in net2
* Host2 - vm2_1 in net1
* Host2 - vm2_2 in net2

Due to OpenNebula's management of IPs and MACs [1] we know beforehand that
the MACs of the VMs will be:
* vm1_1 and vm_2_1: network mac address = 02:00:C0:A8:01:*
* vm1_2 and vm_2_2: network mac address = 02:00:C0:A8:02:*

If we apply the ebtables hook [2], we are actually enforcing these rules for
*each* tap device in that host:

in_rule="FORWARD -s ! #{net_mac}/ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:00 -o #{tap} -j DROP"
out_rule="FORWARD -s ! #{iface_mac} -i #{tap} -j DROP"

What the in_rule does, is to drop packet from a MAC address that doesn't
match the networks MAC Address, whereas the out_rule prevents MAC spoofing.

To exemplify this, suppose that vm1_1 tries to ping vm1_2 or vm2_2:
Both vm1_2 and vm2_2 will only accept packets comming from a MAC that
matches 02:00:C0:A8:02:*, but vm1_1 has a MAC 02:00:C0:A8:01:*, therefore
the packet will be dropped. If vm1_1 is aware of this rule and spoofs its
MAC to become 02:00:C0:A8:02:*, the out_rule will stop all the packets from
getting out of the tun/tap interface.

You may have noticed that it doesn't really matter what name do the tun/tap
interfaces have.

If your ebtables hook is not working as expected, try executing it manually,
see if it prints out anything to stderr. Also, send us your network
templates and /var/lib/one/config.

Re: [one-users] OpenNebula 2.2 Sunstone Error : Unable to Login

2011-04-06 Thread KINGLABS
It worked after I changed the permissions for sunstone to oneadmin user
, the following is what I observed.

king@frontend:/$ ls -lrt /var/log/one/
total 1392
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  25601 2011-04-06 01:10 sunstone.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 oneadmin oneadmin 606478 2011-04-06 06:34 sched.log
-rw--- 1 oneadmin oneadmin 348766 2011-04-06 06:34 one_xmlrpc.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 oneadmin oneadmin 421791 2011-04-06 06:34 oned.log

While I understand the permission issue, I am puzzled about what went
wrong with permissions of sunstone.log,

touch /var/log/one/test works without any issues.

I have used 2.2 .deb files in the express install script.

Another question would be as which user the server is running. I had a
login problem once when I didn't start the onestone server as the
one user.

Hi,

It seems that you don't have write permissions in /var/log/one, could you
try the following?
touch /var/log/one/test
If that's the problem try to fix it with chown or chmod.

However, you shouldn't be having that problem, how have you installed
OpenNebula? what package and what distro?

[one-users] VM stays in SAVE_STOP state

2011-04-06 Thread Pieter Simoens

Dear all,

  when I want to stop my Virtual Machine, through "onevm stop
  VM_ID", it stays stuck in the SAVE_STOP state.

  The oned.log file just says "Stopping VM 15", whereas the vm.log
  file says:
  [LCM][I]: New VM state is SAVE_STOP

  Checking on the cluster node itself, through "virsh list" shows
  that the VM is in "paused" state, so I don't think there is a
  problem with ssh credentials or ACPI events.
  Can somebody help me out?

  Also, what is the specific difference between issuing a "stop" and
  a "shutdown" command?
  Note that I am running OpenNebula 2.0, a previous post in this
  mailing list http://www.mail-archive.com/users@lists.opennebula.org/msg01491.html
was related to this issue, but no clue is given their about the
possible reason for this VM being stuck in the SAVE_STOP state.

Best regards,
Pieter

  Hi,
  Have you ever removed the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file ?  Try to ssh to
  your cluster node to make sure that you can login without a
  password. I have met a similar problem because the known_hosts
  file had been removed for some reasons.
