Re: [one-users] distributed frontend with raft consensus algorithm

2014-02-12 Thread Carlos Martín Sánchez
Hi,

 Hi all,

My last interaction with Opennebula is with the version 3.8

In that version, the frontend can only be running by a single node. To
have a redundancy, it was advised to have the frontend to be configured
using HA tools, such as Red Hat cluster suite. See
 http://archives.opennebula.org/documentation:archives:rel4.2:oneha

I believe that kind of setup is not optimal, as you have to bolt in
another subsystem, that could potentially become another head ache to
 maintain.

As alternative to external clustering system, I would like to highlight to
the developers the availability of Raft Consensus Algorithm. See
 http://raftconsensus.github.io/

This algorithm can help to maintain the availability of the frontend, in a
fault-tolerant distributed system. With this algorithm, frontend can be run
on the VM nodes itself, where at any given time, one of the nodes will act
as a frontend for the whole cluster. If that leader node goes down, any
other node will step up to become the next leader, and maintaining the
 availability of the frontend

This can help simplify deployment, and reduce the requirement to have a
dedicated frontend machine, with another failover machine in standby

I hope this idea could be discussed futher, and implemented on the future
 release of Opennebula.

 thanks.

Thank you for your suggestion. This may be useful not only for HA, but also
for the new OpenNebula federation, where we need to have a master and
several slaves. For the first version (that will be included in 4.6) the
master will be set manually, but at some point we'll need to think of a way
to deal with master selection.

Best regards

Re: [one-users] oneacct [VirtualMachinePoolAccounting] Internal Error

2014-02-12 Thread Jaime Melis
Hi Stefan,

it was in fact a bug/typo, and it has been fixed in master, so it will work
fine in OpenNebula 4.6. Anyways, it really doesn't make much difference to
have the order by clause or not, so if you simply disable that mysql flag,
you'll probably see the results the correct way.

cheers,
Jaime

I don't know for sure it ever worked after I upgraded to onennebula-4.4.

It might have to do with our mysql server settings (sql-mode):
 sql-mode =

 But I'm not sure.

How to best debug this issue?

 Gr. Stefan

It definitely looks like a problem with the ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY flag.
Now that I think about it, we don't really need the group by, and it may
probably be a bug and we meant to use ORDER BY [1].

[one-users] Sunstone 403 at login (only with chromium / chrome)

2014-02-12 Thread Stefan Kooman
Hi,

We have trouble logging in to sunstone with Chromium as a browser. After
provoding credentials we end up with a 403 forbidden. Chromium debug
console show this:

When the default login page gets loaded it gets a 401 Unauthorized
trying to GET /jquery.min.map/vendor/4.0. After providing credentials I
get a Unexpected error. Status 403. Check the server logs.. Chromium
console logs it's getting a 403 during a POST for login
(jquery-1.9.1.min.js:5 Script). In firefox everything works as
expected.
It doesn't matter if I provide correct credentials or not. It always
gives a 403.

Anyone experienced similar issues?

Gr. Stefan

Re: [one-users] Computer and network facilities required to set up an office Lab environment to experiment the features/functionalities of OpenNebula platform - Qiubo David Su

2014-02-12 Thread Qiubo Su (David Su)
Dear OpenNebula Community,

I have been using OpenNebula platform to set up IAAS for a while. To better
experiment the more advanced features/functionalities offered by the
platform, I decide to set up a Lab in the office environment.

May any of you specialized in this area help to specify the computer and
network facilities required to set up such an environment? i.e.

1) The specification of the server system required *(e.g. what kind of
server board? how many CPUs and how many cores per CPU? how much RAM? what
size of the Hard Drives? how many NIC ports? how much power of the power
supply? what else components required?)*, and how many of this server
system required? Is workstation OK?

2) The network will be a LAN in the office environment. What kind of a LAN
topology should be set up in order to better experiment the advanced
features/functionalities offered by the system?

Thank you very much for your help !

Thanks kindly,
Qiubo David Su
