thanks

AFAIK installing artifacts performs correctly. At least, I am not aware of
any blocker issues.

Was a bug implied here? It sounds like the op was merely wanting information
without trying it. Op, have you tried it and finding problems? Maybe I missed a
portion of this thread.

From my experience maven modules don't care about the operating

with hard coding to a specific OS not a surefire issue.

Modules care about the version of maven being used and the version of
java being used.

Does the version of maven your using and the version of java your
using install correctly on windows 2019?

In addition, you can use the --pl option (requires Maven 3.2.1+) to exclude
the child module of your choice.

This example excludes child module "foo":
mvn --pl !foo

is a property one can set in the pom file, however when I write
openSUSE 13.1 it does not work. Can anyone please help?

Trouble Installing Maven - not sure of /java location mac os x mavericks

2014-08-14 Thread kcanfield
Hello,

I am having trouble installing Maven on my Mac. I have the necessary
requirements and I followed the instructions carefully. One of the instructions
on the download/installation page is to specify where my JDK is installed,(
• Make sure that JAVA_HOME is set to the location of your JDK, e.g.
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.7.0_51 and that $JAVA_HOME/bin is in your PATH
environment variable.

) but I don’t know where that is. ON the Java installer, there is no way that I
can specify where to install Java. I already had both the JDK and JRE
installed, but tried to install the JDK again so I could get the destination
but the installer does not let me choose. I tried doing a spotlight search for
the java folder but it did not appear. I have been developing in Java on this
machine for more than a few months, so I know that Java is installed and
working properly.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I'd recommend deleting settings.xml and running the plugin to grab a fresh
one from Nexus

mvn org.sonatype.plugins:nexus-m2settings-maven-plugin:1.4.8:download
-DnexusUrl=https://nexus:8443/nexus -DtemplateId=CME

Thats the much shorter way to configure yourself instead of messing with
the dmg installer.

Obviously you have problems with the data in your settings.xml file.
What exactly do you want us to do for you, considering you did not

If you're on Mac OS X < 10.7, then you have to live with the JDK Apple is
providing:
- Java 5 for 10.5.x (*)
- Java 6 for 10.6.x

(*) I'm not sure, but I guess I have seen some Java 6 versions also for
10.5, but only for 64-bit machines.

Profile activation by OS/Arch and by Property doesn't work

2012-01-18 Thread gorgophol
Hi,

I'm using Maven to install two pieces of Software on several testing
machines.
I defined a profile in the settings.xml of every machine for every
Software-OS-Arch combination I try to test.
If the correct profile is activated, several properties are set, to identify
the correct artifact to download from the nexus repository, to set the
correct setup-executable and the correct installation directory, which are
used later by a POM to install the right version of the right software to
the specified directory. All with one POM and just different profiles in
settings.xml.

My profiles look like the following:

win_32_cadenza

Windows
x86

  environment
  CadenzaCD

WIN32
   response_win32.varfile
Setup-Windows.exe
Cadenza autodeploy

The other profiles are nearly identical, but they are activated by
amd64 (or x64) for example and a different environment value
(GISterm) for the other software.

My problem is, that more than one of these profiles is activated.
Even the profile with unix is activated on a
Windows-machine!

I test it, with mvn help:active-profiles -Denvironment=CadenzaCD.
Response is:

 - nexus (source: settings.xml)
 - win_32_cadenza (source: settings.xml)
 - win_32_gisterm (source: settings.xml)
 - win_amd64_cadenza (source: settings.xml)
 - win_x64_cadenza (source: settings.xml)
 - linux_cadenza (source: settings.xml)

An interesting thing is, that on the win-32bit-machine both
software-profiles (Cadenza and GISterm) are activated (even I set the
property to CadenzaCD and NOT GIStermCD), while the other profiles (which
should definitely not run on a windows-32-bit machine) only list the
Cadenza-Profiles.

Can anybody explain this behaviour to me?

Thanks.
Benjamin

People develop abstractions by generalizing from concrete examples.
Every attempt to determine the correct abstraction on paper without
actually developing a running system is doomed to failure. No one
is that smart. A framework is a resuable design, so you develop it by
looking at the things it is supposed to be a design of. The more examples
you look at, the more general your framework will be.

Ok now the problem is identified : There was a mistake done on central

Very odd indeed, we use properties quite pervasively and I haven't seen this.

I do recall some chicken-n-egg scenarios but this doesn't to fit that mold.

Curt-

not supporting version for all of your tasks in your build environments will
not produce stable releases within your SDLC process
you can overcome this problem by promoting your non-version-tagged specific
tasks to version-specific maven-plugins
(start with 1.0) which will enable your build process to produce stable release
distros

Good point, I have just try with version 2.2.1 and result is the same.

I really don't understand why this works on linux but not under
windows, there is some mysteries somewhere.

Just to note, we use this since some times now (having version with a
property in dependenciesManagement of a parent pom) and we never had the
problem (since now :)).

I will have a look in maven jira in case.

Perharps what we are doing is wrong ? I really don't know...

Thanks.

The problem seems to come from dependencies only when version are

Notice that in my parent pom the version of the dependency is filled by
a property then the second problem seems to me to be the same in fact...

properties inheritance does not work on windows os

2010-11-11 Thread chemit
Hi guys,

I was testing some of my mojo on windows platform (xp) and how
surprised I was to see there is some big problems.

I had some
[ERROR] 'dependencies.dependency.version' for
commons-logging:commons-logging:jar is missing. @ line 48, column 17

when having in my mojo pom :

  commons-logging
  commons-logging

which having as parent pom something with the good
dependenciesManagement filled for this dependency.

Another one, I defined in ma parent pom a mavenVersion property (to
2.2.1)

In the plugin I had

  org.apache.maven
  maven-project
  ${mavenVersion}
  provided

But once again it did not works, while repeting the property definition
in plugin pom it works.

I feel a bit disapointing by such behaviour on windows, I did never
test maven 3.0 before final release and just test it on linux as for
me java is platform independant.
For next releases of maven, before giving my +1, I'll have a check on
windows first, be sure ;)

Is those problem are known? I did not see anything about this on the
list, which means one thing to me : windows users does not use maven
(this was my troll sorry ;)).

Hope something will be done soon about it ;)

how to change param value based on os value

2010-08-03 Thread eyal edri
Hi,

i'm trying to create one profile that will change one of it's param values
based on the OS.

here is the profile: (used for deploying rpm to yum repository)

  rpm

wagon-maven-plugin

deploy-remote-rpm
deploy

  upload

 target/rpm/${project.artifactId}/RPMS/noarch
  *.rpm
  scp://yumrepo.company.com

/ctcfgroot/stable/src/all/${project.artifactId}
-> if the OS is fedora 12, the dir should be /ctcfgroot/*stable-fc12*
/src.

org.codehaus.mojo
exec-maven-plugin

build-remote-yum-repo
deploy

  exec

  ssh

${remoteYumRepo}
cd /ctcfgroot/stable;make -> if the OS
is fedora 12, the dir should be /ctcfgroot/*stable-fc12*/

any ideas?

how to config wagon-maven-plugin to copy noarch & os specific rpms

2010-06-13 Thread eyal edri
Hi,

i'm using the wagon plugin to deploy rpm to our YUM repo.
i've used so far the 'true settings in the
rpm-maven-plugin configuration,
so all the rpm's are created per os (i386/x64...).

i want to allow also 'noarch' rpms to be deploy
(false), but i can't think on a way
to do while still supporting the os specific settings.

all our noarch rpms go to yum-server://ctcfgroot/ctstable/src/*all*/

here's the config now:

org.codehaus.mojo
wagon-maven-plugin

deploy-remote-rpm
deploy

  upload

 target/rpm/${project.artifactId}/RPMS/${os.arch}
  *.rpm
  scp://yum-server

 /ctcfgroot/ctstable/src/${os.arch}/${project.artifactId}

any ideas?

Strange behavior during the deployment / installation of an archetype on Mac OS X

2010-06-08 Thread Gildas Cuisinier
When I install (mvn install) or deploy (mvn deploy) an archetype under Mac
Os x, it seems that Maven do not use .jar extention but an .maven-archetype
extention.

The next problem is that when trying to create a project from the archetype,
maven seeks the archetype.jar.
So the command fails.

I've try the same operation under windows, everything is ok. mvn install ou
mvn deploy generate a jar file.

Does somebody can reproduce the bug on its Mac ?
Step to reproduce :

   - mvn archetype:generate ( select anyone archetype )

I've seen a similar case at work where Internet access is through a

Next time, cat the files (or edit them, whatever, just open in text
editor) and see what they look like. The JAR file should be binary
with a few obvious strings in it, and the pom file should be XML.

I would have been interested to know what was in those 357 bytes on
your disk -- was the jar a copy of the pom, were both corrupted due to
being downloaded from a bad repo, or something else altogether...

Re: Maven Install on Mac OS X

2009-12-05 Thread bandrm

Ok, got it. So, here is what happened...

1) checking md5 checksum is very important. First when I installed maven, I
assumed the checksums would be correct and without md5 I installed maven.
First mistake.
2) Initial installation created a repository /.m2, but there was no
repository directory under .m2, strange.

So, I downloaded a fresh install of maven 2.2.1, made sure the checksums
matched. Then, I removed .m2 and created a fresh directory .m2 and then on
it worked fine.

Thank you. Now, I moved onto installing Maven 2.2.1 tar.gz, rather than Maven

Run the command:

md5sum apache-maven-2.2.1-bin.tar.bz2

Check to be sure that the result matches the published checksum on the

It sounds to me like you're having a problem getting a clean download.
Be sure to check the MD5 for your download. If it doesn't match the one
published on the download page, then your download has errors.

Maven Install on Mac OS X

2009-12-05 Thread bandrm

This is my first time on a Mac. I have maven 2.2.1 installed on a Mac...but,
I have never been successfully able to execute a "mvn install" or "mvn clean
install". It would great if someone could help me out from the issues I am
having

Firstly,I downloaded Maven 2.2.1 (tar.gz), but when I try to untar it, it
errors out in "file format unrecognized". And, every new download of Maven
2.2.1 (tar.gz) would result in different file size. So, I downloaded Maven
2.2.1 (tar.bz2) and it worked...I don't know if this could be the root cause
of all the issues I am having...

"mvn install" - When I run this command, it errors out in error: error
reading /Users/X/.m2/javax/xml/bind/jaxb-api/2.1/jaxb-api-2.1.jar;
cannot read zip file. Basically, it unable to read jar file from repository.
I have no clue why. The file is right there in the repository, but unable to
read. but, there is one strange thing I noticed. Along with
jaxb-api-2.1.jar, there is a corresponding .pom file and both these files
have same size 357. huh?

"mvn clean install" - When I run this command, it errors out as
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org/apache/maven/shared/io/logging/MessageSink. Here is the stack trace...

Hi Althen,

Yes, I'll need a Jira issue and that you attach every xml file you're
modifying, zipped to be sure that nothing is modified in their content while
transferring them.

Hi Herve,

I managed to pass this issue by specifying in my settings.xml files and in the one in \conf\.

So I decided lets try something else.

/u/uli/home/Mercury/Mercury/imf/codegen: >mvn help:system -X -e
+ Error stacktraces are turned on.

Re: Maven on z/OS

2009-10-20 Thread Hervé BOUTEMY
Hi Althen,

I'm very interested with problems you're facing.
We did a lot of work on encoding support for XML files, see [1].
But since I didn't find anybody using z/os, I wasn't able to check that
everything was fixed.

Now that you're here, I suppose I'll be able to work with you on last fixes:
great!
Can you create a Jira issue on [2], with full stacktrace?

Regards,

Hervé

Try to convert that file into UTF-EBCDIC (it's like UTF-8 but it is
EBCDIC-friendly) with an advanced editor. Obviously put it into the
"encoding" attribute of the XML.

Maven on z/OS

2009-10-20 Thread Althen, Uli
Hi there,

I am trying to run maven 2.2.1 on z/os. I did find a number of entries
in the archives referring to issues reading the settings.xml with the
correct encoding.

/u/uli: >mvn -version

Apache Maven 2.2.1 (r801777; 2009-08-06 14:16:01-0500)

Java version: 1.6.0

Java home: /usr/lpp/java/J6.0

Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF16

OS name: "z/os" version: "01.06.00" arch: "s390" Family: "unix"

/u/uli: >mvn help:active-profiles

Error reading settings.xml: only whitespace content allowed before start
tag and not L (position: START_DOCUMENT seen L... @1:1)

  Line: 1

  Column: 1

Has anybody run maven successful on z/os ?

It appears that maven can read /apache-maven-2.2.1/conf/settings.xml
correctly. That file has as the
first line. If I change the encoding on this stanza to UTF-16 it fails
reading this settings file.

The error appears to happen when reading the settings.xml in the users
m2 directory, regardless of whether I specify , or nothing
at all. Btw, the 'L' is the ASCII representation of the EBCDIC '<' from
'', which is in the first line.

Thanks for your help

os filtering for profile depended web.xml

2009-09-08 Thread Sjoerd Schunselaar
Hello all,

At the moment I have 2 profiles in my pom.xml , which set the property
"targetEnv" to dev or prod. I've two directories (dev and prod) which
contains the different web.xml files.

For the correct usage with Jetty, I use the following property in the
Jetty plugin:
src/main/filters/${targetEnv}/web.xml.

Now I have a os depended variable (directory path) in my web.xml which
I would like to filter. Maybe it's possible to create another 2
profiles and duplicate the web.xml files, but then I can't use the
same profile id. Does anyone can suggest a more clever solution?

Thank you,

Sjoerd Schunselaar

1. Maven is not Ant. Get used to that right now.

2. Use profiles and activate one or the other depending on the OS
which will filter various values eventually giving you what you want
during your builds. Google is your friend here, as are various free
ebooks on Maven and other documentation.

"rm -rf /usr/share/maven"?

Typically, on linux and OS X, I'd expand the maven archive into a directory
(e.g. /usr/share/maven-2.1.0) and toss in some softlinks:

tar zxvf ~/apache-maven-2.1.0.tar.gz
> mv apache-maven-2.1.0 /usr/share/maven-2.1.0
> mv /usr/share/maven /usr/share/maven-2.0.6
> ln -s /usr/share/maven-2.1.0 /usr/share/maven

Then, at some point in the future, if I decide I don't want maven 2.0.6
anymore, I wipe it.

Re: How to uninstall / override previous Maven version on OS X Leopard?

2009-03-22 Thread Unnsse Khan

Hi Kalle,

Thanks for the suggestion (I thought about the same solution before
starting this initial thread on the mailing list)...

The Apache Maven 2.1.0 working as the correct one by placing
$MAVEN_HOME before /usr/bin in my PATH as follows:

export PATH=$MAVEN_HOME/bin:/usr/local/bin:$PATH:/usr/local/sbin:
$JAVA_HOME/bin:/opt/local/bin:$PS1:$PATH;

The thing I dislike about this approach is that the previous Maven
(2.0.6) version still exists on my machine.

Prior to Maven 2.1.0, I had installed the 2.0.6 version by downloading
the tar.gz (tarball) and then building Maven 2.0.6 by scratch which
placed the mvn script inside my /usr/bin directory.

Is there a way to truly un-install / wipe the previous mvn (2.06)
version from my system?

Many, many thanks!

Re: Installing Maven on Mac OS X

2008-11-24 Thread Gabriel Garcia
Rick,

Apart from Wendy's instructions, you can also install Maven with tools
that'll make it just work for you:

I use Maven with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and Maven 2.0.9 without a
problem, but I I used darwinports: http://darwinports.com/ (a simple
sudo port install maven2 would install it in /opt, all you need to do
is add /opt/local/bin to your PATH in your profile). Fink
(http://www.finkproject.org/) also has it, but its latest Maven
version is 2.0.7, whilst darwinports's is 2.0.9.

Set M2_HOME to your new Maven install, and make sure $M2_HOME/bin is
on your PATH before the directory where the default mvn lives.

Re: Installing Maven on Mac OS X

2008-11-23 Thread Wendy Smoak
In order to help, we need to know what steps you took and what error
message you're getting.

I believe OS X ships with Maven 2.0.6, so if you haven't gotten it
completely switched over to (I assume) 2.0.9, the archetype:generate
goal will not be available as Archetype 2 requires at least 2.0.7.

What is the output of "mvn -v" ? Of "echo $M2_HOME" ?

Installing Maven on Mac OS X

2008-11-23 Thread Ricky
Hi,

I am trying to install maven on my mac book, Mac OS X. when i do mvn, it
runs alright; but when i try to do :

mvn archetype:generate .. it gives build failure... My guess is that i am
missing some steps, can someone point me to either a URL or guide me through
the steps for installing this on mac os x. I already have installed maven on
vista and XP before ... but kinda new to mac os x ... any help would be
appreciable,

RE: Maven/OS X Development Question

2008-11-05 Thread wxlund

I didn't describe the issue well enough. I am using m2eclipse but that's not
pertinent to the issue. The same errors were appearing and related to
whether I had the JDK set to 1.5 or 1.6. I was trying to debug the errors
from the command line. So I think it really does belong on this forum. I
did actually get further by specifying JDK 1.6 for launching the mvn
commands but I run into another very different problem when trying to launch
the RCP with 1.6 set. It was swt-carbon-3349 jar missing and I need to be
able to run on JDK 1.5 anyway so I haven't yet tracked down that issue.

All of these maven issues I read related to mvn command line invocations
that work in JDK 1.6 and break with JDK 1.5. Any ideas?

Wayne, from your description it is unclear what issue you have with
m2eclipse. For custom Maven launch configurations you can specify what JRE
and Maven runtime is used. You can also see what command line is used by
m2eclipse to launch Maven. See
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/M2ECLIPSE/Project+FAQ#ProjectFAQ-HowtoretrieveanactualcommandlineusedtostartJVMandMaven

Please also note that recent m2eclipse builds provide wizards to create
new projects using archetypes and to install artifacts to the local Maven
repository. See
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/M2ECLIPSE/New+and+Noteworthy

BTW, it is better to ask questions related to m2eclipse in its own mailing
list. See http://m2eclipse.codehaus.org/mail-lists.html

  Thanks

  Eugene

OK, i've found the reason now. The 'mvn' command was wrapped by a shell
script that sets JAVA_HOME to a Java 1.4 environment. This was done by a
mate of me, so i had no clue. After removing this all works fine. Sorry,
but if someone runs into the same error this post may help.

RE: Maven/OS X Development Question

2008-09-05 Thread Sean Hennessy
Hi John,

I did not see if the expected "java -version" matches that of your mvn -x
output shared.
I recall a link operation ( ln -s ) was required on Mac volume to get newer JDK
hooked up correctly.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply. I am able to do "regular" java development (Elipse,
IntelliJ, ant, JBoss, Tomcat, Geronimo, webapps, ears, jar files etc).
However, when I use *any* version of Maven and perform a "mvn install", I get
an error.

I've documented it here
(http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1695479&tstart=15)
and have spent considerable (far too much) time on it already.

I've even updated the Java version from the Apple site. About the only other
thing I can think to do, besides throwing my computer from the top of the
highest building I can find, is to reinstall OS X.

Thanks again,
John

Thanks Jim!

Would you mind putting this in JIRA as an attached patch? Also, I'd
suggest just dropping the maximum length constraint altogether - I
don't see that it adds anything?

You mean to say that Apple is updating your .bash_profile file? Works
fine for me here, unless this is a Leopard thing.

Seriously. That's all I do. Latest maven, etc go in /usr/local/dist.
Then links to /usr/local/dist/maven-2.0.7/bin/* go in /usr/local/bin.
 In my ~/.bashrc:
export PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH

This works perfectly fine, never gets hit by an Apple update.

Can't you just set MVN_HOME to what you want and put your maven 2.0.7
in, say, /opt/maven?

I am not running Leopard on my dev machine, only on my play machine.
I've noticed some slowness launching some Java apps, but nothing
else. I've heard there are more problems.
