RE: Spam (8.451):R: Assistence required for opening files in Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2.

2016-01-25 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Let me be get something clear first.

You are talking about a document that was protected against writing, but not
protected against reading, is that correct?

Or do you mean fully protected, so that they can't be used by anyone without
presenting the password?

If these were created in Word, what version of Word was used? (2016, 2013,
2010, 2007, earlier?)

What format is the document saved in (.doc, .docx, .odt)?

Apache OpenOffice is not able to handle all of the different formats with which
passwords are set on Word documents. It will matter which version was used,
the format, and how much is protected.

RE: Trojan Download

2016-01-25 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Setup-40641183 is not part of Apache OpenOffice.

Delete whatever you downloaded.

Go to .

Make sure the operating system, language, and version (4.1.2) appear.

Click "Download full installation."

On the next page, DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING on the page. Do not click anything
that says START DOWNLOAD or DOWNLOAD NOW.

Instead, just wait for your browser to offer you a download of
"Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.2_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe (134MB).

Select Save at that time. It should download and also be security scanned.

If that still causes a malware detection, let us know.

trouble with printing

2016-01-25 Thread Paulus Kruijer
Hello,

I typed a three pages document and when I printed the three pages it went on
and on with a text I could not read. Next time instead of using "all"( pages) I
typed in 1-3 pages and it worked. When I opened my document I noticed that
there were more then 3 pages. I tried to get rid of them, but I did not
succeed. How is it possible that there are more pages open in my document,
while I only typed three pages?
Can some one help me so it does not happened again?

Kind regards,

Paulus Kruijer

BTW I recently tried to force an update on my early 2009 Macbookpro running
Yosemite 10.10.5 and ended up with a corrupted system.

After an anxious period opened

Disk Utility
Selected Hardrive
Verify Disk Permissions
Repair Disk Permissions

Problems solved, back on OO 4. 1. 1 and see no need for an update.

I lost all of my documents/ spreadsheets. I was trying to install a
history manager file so I could see more than just 10 of my most recent
works and in doing so it somehow erased everything.

How do I get them back??

Also, it never fixed the problem with me being able to only see 10 docs.

Thank you!

Re: Help please!

2016-01-25 Thread Jim McLaughlin
 Dan -

Katherine had a question about apparently disappearing files when she tried
to load a history manager onto her OO installation.

Jan, who's first language is not English, graciously tried to help by
recommending a program called "recuva" to recover the missing files. The
phrase "dwn @piriform.com" which Jan used is not an e mail address per se.
It is a contraction of the phrase "download at piriform.com". Its a set
of directions to a web site, not an E mail address.

Similarly, Jan's use of the word "taste" is a stand in for "try". Remember
Jan is a non native English speaker, who is doing his best to try to help
out Katherine with a question Katherine asked.

I appreciate an's attempts to help Katherine and admire Jan's plunging into
the vaguries of American English to do so. Jan's efforts in a second
language, American English, are a heck of a lot better than mu feeble
attempts at French, which passes for my second language.

Please cut Jan some slackl

Re: Open Office Pdf Conversion Problem

2016-01-25 Thread Brian Barker

At 13:44 25/01/2016 +1100, Wayne Olling wrote:

I am sorry to be a bother.

There's no indication you have been.

Since the beginning of this year I am not able to convert an odt. or
doc. file to pdf when I click on the pdf icon in the tools gallery.
When I click on the icon it produces the intended question of saving
the file as a pdf by title but when I click on that I get a message
saying the file already exists and asks do I want to replace it.
When I click 'yes' I get a message saying that there was a write
error and the file could not be written.

OpenOffice has a strange option in both the Save As... and Export
dialogue boxes. Near the bottom, you will see an "Automatic file name
extension" tick box. Has this become unticked? If it has, you will be
saving documents in the correct format, but the file names will not
be getting the proper extension. So a text document will be called
just "name" rather than "name.odt": you will have a valid file but
without the correct extension. Like this, the documents will not open
in the correct application when they are double-clicked, but they can
be opened in other ways.

If you attempt to export such a file as PDF, the tick box will still
be empty, so you will be trying to create a file named "name" instead
of "name.pdf". But that means, of course, that you are saving the PDF
copy over the original ODT document - also now called just "name".
The error message you see is because the ODT version (albeit also
without the appropriate extension) is locked by the fact that you
have it open in OpenOffice.

All you need to do is to replace that tick in "Automatic file name
extension". Once you have done this, it will stick - just as the absence did.

This occurred with Open Office 4.1.1 from early January 2016 and
even after I converted to 4.1.2 late last week.

This setting will be saved in your OpenOffice user profile, and this
is intentionally preserved across any upgrade in order to maintain
your choices. So yes: it makes sense that upgrading will not have
affected matters.

I trust this helps.

Brian Barker

This message comes from Windows not from OpenOffice.
Either you have the file open in a PDF reader or there is a lock file.
Try to save in an other directory and see if the problem is solved.
