All images are stripped off by the mail server.

It's quit unlikely that someone could advice, probably you could 
describe what the messages is in the popups.

Wird bei mir auch angezeigt. Aber wenn du eh schon die aktuelle Version
hast, brauchst du das ja derzeit nicht.

Ich vermute, dass der Server gar nicht wirklich down ist (ist natürlich
immer möglich), sondern dass lediglich die Antwort des Servers ("Keine
neuere Version") einfach nur falsch interpretiert und als "Keine
Antwort" dargestellt wird (so ein Antwortcode kann leicht mal mit dem
falschen Text verlinkt werden).

and like it better than most other programs.

HOWEVER,   the Android version that I downloaded to my tablet does not work
properly.  Doesn't even begin to function properly.  When you tap on
characters it adds two characters.  For instance trying to set page margin,
entering .5 gives .55.  And difficult to shrink to get on screen plus other
issues.   It is hard to work with anything in   this app.  I've tried
several times only to give up on it on a  SAMSUNG ANDROID TABLLET   and I
am not a beginner.  I have been using Open Office since it was developed.
 I wish someone would fix all the bugs and problems in the ANDROID
VERSION.

William, all the pdf converters for Windows that I've found recently come
with bundled software that either I don't want or that flags the
antivirus/malware program. Even using their custom install features I still
see many adds or upgrade prompts after install. All undesirable.

OpenOffice apps all have a menu options File >> Export as PDF... (except
Math which has File >> Export...)

Have you tried that option to create pdfs?

It eliminates the need for a 3rd party pdf printer driver.

If you must have a pdf printer I suggest trying Foxit PDF Reader from
Foxitsoftware.com. As the name suggests it is a PDF reader. It also
installs a PDF printer and, imo, the install is much easier to recognize
and unselect bundled software.

nicht überall, wo OpenOffice draufsteht, ist das Original drin.
Gehe auf die Original-Websitehttp://www.openoffice.org/de/download/
da kannst Du Betriebssystem, Sprache und Version aussuchen.
