Re: Major Problem on File Access

2018-02-08 Thread Glen Kohler
From my own experiences and those reported by others I have to suspect that the
default file locking is not desirable. It would be very useful if the
preferences interface included a way to turn file locking off and on.

My own difficulty opening files created on my other computer have made me put
AOO aside for the time being.

Best Luck to All,

Glen

John—

You may be able to save the OO document as a Word file, then open it in Pages.

If the notation comes from a special font, check to see if it displays normally
in OO. Some system fonts do, and some don’t.

Re: Question about making Open Office my default

2018-02-02 Thread Glen Kohler
Hi Karen—

Here’s what you do:

1. Click on an incon for the file type you want to always open with AOO while
simultaneously holding down the Control key.

2. Release the Control key and hover the cursor over ‘Open With’

3. Hold down the Option key; ‘Open With’ will change to ‘Always Open With’.

4. Select Open Office. You may have to first select ‘Other’ if AOO does not
appear as one of the first choices in the resulting list.

Re: Question, story for Computerworld

Paul—

I don’t know how meaningful .docx format really is. I use Word for Mac 2008,
and occasionally 2011(hate the interface), including OLE with Excel and mail
merge. Either format does pretty much the same stuff, so I set the default save
to .doc so everyone can open it.

Libre Office for Mac, last time I looked, had problems printing business size
envelopes. AOO seems to have overcome that hurdle, making it the preferred
OpenSource candidate to replace Word at this time.

Paul—

You might consider downloading and installing AOO for research.

4.1.5 for Mac does not save in .docx. It does save as MS 2003 in .xml.

PH—

If you have a Mac:

Control-click on the file icon

Hover the cursor over ‘Open With’

Press Option: ‘Open With’ changes to ‘Always Open With’

Click on an application from the list.

;)

What OS are you using?

On the Mac you can define the application that opens a given class of files,
such as .doc suffixes. I think Windows has a similar function, somewhere.
