You've downloaded and installed ransomware on your computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ransomware Probably similar to these schemes: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9198743/Ransomware_rears_ugly_head_demands_120_to_unlock_files http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=2594 http://skyrunner.net/wordpress/continuing-news-on-the-cryptolocker-ransomware-virus-this-is-a-nasty-one-folks-take-precautions/ I recommend that you disconnect your system from the internet take your computer to a local computer expert/service and get it cleaned. Your computer was compromised by some other site, which installed a redirection to a contaminated version of OpenOffice; unfortunately, as the code is public domain unscrupulous operators use it for such ransom demands. It is only recommended to download OpenOffice from www.openoffice.org/download which will redirect to SourceForge servers where the files are stored. If one has any doubt about the integrity of the downloaded file, this can be verified as set out in How to verify a download Depending on your operating system you may be able to restore it to a pre-infection restore point; You should backup any important work before doing this, should you choose to do so, You should carry out an indepth virus scan using latest virus definitions, also a malware scan, also with latest definitions. I would suggest using Trend Micro's House Call, which will do a scan of your computer from their site. For Malware, MalwareBytes is well respected. I offer the above in good faith. Opening the email some how installed Openoffice on my system. That's wrong. It was you who installed it. Why do you follow links or run attachments from spam E-mails? Microsoft will NEVER send you 'update' E-mails. There are many forums where volunteers deal with people's malware. We can tell what you have installed on your system instead of OO. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

For what it's worth, this is not true, of course: Microsoft have been sending me e-mail messages about updates every month for some years. The most recent one arrived last Friday.
