Send a message to: users-digest-subscr...@openoffice.apache.org although have noticed the following: the only instruction that the digest mode manager seems to accept is retrieval of a single message, contradicting advice given in the automatic message (copy shown) below; you may have to manually copy the recipient address and subject field into your reply message. The general use of the mailing list manager is not as good as the libreoffice mailing list. --- Administrative commands for the users-digest list --- I can handle administrative requests automatically. Please do not send them to the list address! Instead, send your message to the correct command address: To subscribe to the list, send a message to: users-digest-subscr...@openoffice.apache.org To remove your address from the list, send a message to: users-digest-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org Send mail to the following for info and FAQ for this list: users-digest-i...@openoffice.apache.org users-digest-...@openoffice.apache.org Similar addresses exist for the digest list: users-digest-digest-subscr...@openoffice.apache.org users-digest-digest-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org To get messages 123 through 145 (a maximum of 100 per request), mail: users-digest-get.123_...@openoffice.apache.org To get an index with subject and author for messages 123-456 , mail: users-digest-index.123_...@openoffice.apache.org They are always returned as sets of 100, max 2000 per request, so you'll actually get 100-499. To receive all messages with the same subject as message 12345, send a short message to: users-digest-thread.12...@openoffice.apache.org The messages should contain one line or word of text to avoid being treated as sp@m, but I will ignore their content. Only the ADDRESS you send to is important. You can start a subscription for an alternate address, for example john@host.domain, just add a hyphen and your address (with '=' instead of '@') after the command word: users-digest-subscribe-john=host.dom...@openoffice.apache.org To stop subscription for this address, mail: users-digest-unsubscribe-john=host.dom...@openoffice.apache.org In both cases, I'll send a confirmation message to that address. When you receive it, simply reply to it to complete your subscription. If despite following these instructions, you do not get the desired results, please contact my owner at users-digest-ow...@openoffice.apache.org. Please be patient, my owner is a lot slower than I am ;-) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

It's an easy way to accomplish nothing AND get ignored or start more flamewars. You're entitled to your opinion, I am only sharing my _personal_ satisfaction to be able to receive multiple messages in a single digest message. You should respect your fellow readers, explain the advantages of your personal preferences and let others make their own decisions. First, digest mode avoids NO pollution at all. If there are 100 useless or nonsense messages you still get ALL of them, just in one batch, and mixed with all the others so they are HARDER to filter out. It was never stated that digest mode does not prevent receipt of undesired message, only that messages are collated. Second, novices often answer to digests, when they don't start whole new threads, by simply hitting Reply to the digest themselves. So: - almost nobody bothers to open those answers because they have a meaningless subject (Re: digest of users@openoffice...) Speak for yourself... - every subscriber gets all the messages of the previous day AGAIN (which makes people with non-flat rate mobile connections very happy) This is not true, depends on type of mailing list management software and assumes the replier does not edit messages before dispatch. - even people with flat rate connection start the usual flame war between top and bottom posters because they get 5 lines of new text before or after 1000 lines of digest posting style complaint occurs without digest mode PS: not for novices to mailing list, but people who wants to avoid the nonsense polluting the inbox can completely filter out uninteresting threads with this procmail trick: http://freesoftware.zona-m.net/how-ignore-uninteresting-threads-in-mailing-lists/ Interesting to know, but personally I like to receive a little rubbish, only because (very) occasionally there is something useful. Would I have learned about procmail filtering without your un-solicited knowledge? ;) Similarly, very occasionally I review a spam mail directory and see something useful. If everything was perfectly efficiency, a lot of serendipitous information would be lost! :) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

For novices to mailing lists, a suggestion: subscribe using the digest mode. You receive a delayed, single combined message of a group of messages. It is an easy and convenient way to avoid the nonsense polluting your e-mail inbox. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
