The Apache License http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.html seems to suggest this is acceptable. I note the version for sale is about two years old and discounted to ten bucks :-) Since you are not subscribed to this list you may not see all the replies to your query. Someone is Selling Open Office
Hey folks, I don’t know how to reach you properly to report this but someone is selling your program in the Microsoft store. The selling of Open Office.
Dear Open Office (Apache), I am a Linux user and obey by the laws of Open Source development and production. I embrace everything which is designed to set the internet free to it's core, of which Open Office development has been a leading contributor for cross-platform unity. Thank you. I am disabled and have to do my shopping online, mostly through Amazon. While searching the Amazon computer software pages, I came across some discs of Open Office for sale by various purveyors. This concerns me as the process of Open Source is to either download from the developer' website directly, or from the safe links provided on that website. And, even to order the discs directly from them. Do the people or companies involved in selling Open Office in the links below have permission to sell Open Office under a contract? I'd do not like the thought of people making money from something which is freely given by the developers who have forged their reputations out of the good will of donations from users. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Student-Professional-Powered-OpenOfficeTM-Microsoft/dp/B015JDCEWE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8=1472740582=8-2=open+office https://www.amazon.co.uk/OPEN-OFFICE-HOME-STUDENT-2015/dp/B014JJLGZ0/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8=1472740582=8-8=open+office https://www.amazon.co.uk/OPEN-OFFICE-HOME-BUSINESS-2016/dp/B0168FFLRC/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8=1472740582=8-10=open+office https://www.amazon.co.uk/OpenOffice-Professional-2016-Spreadsheets-Presentations/dp/B0195Q4DC0/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8=1472740582=8-13=open+office Yours sincerely, Tim Bailey - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

[BCC PMC] Tim, The open-source license under which Apache OpenOffice is provided does not prevent commercial use in any manner. However, the use of Apache Software Foundation trademarks is a different matter. I am referring your message to the OpenOffice Project Management Committee for consideration of that aspect. - Dennis > -Original Message- > From: Tim Bailey [mailto:mityhot.ali...@yandex.com] > Sent: Thursday, September 1, 2016 07:56 > To: users@openoffice.apache.org > Subject: The selling of Open Office. > > Dear Open Office (Apache), > > I am a Linux user and obey by the laws of Open Source development and > production. The solution to this is very very simple. During installation, the package should bring up a banner that says something like: This is totally free software. If you paid for it, you have been robbed. You can download it for free from http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/latest/download?source=directory-featured Also, the banner must not be a script, which can be easily removed from the package. It should be compiled C or C++ code that cannot be removed without getting the full source code and removing the message and recompiling the whole enchilada. The overwhelming majority of such ripoff scums have no clue how to open a sardine can, let alone rpm packages, or debian packages or zipped tar packages. Yes, there are some who can, but most are not into this sort of crappy activity. The remaining few are, ... well, .. few. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
