Hi, and a couple of questions
Hope this finds you all well. My initial question. Am I correct that the component *Base* in Open Office 4.1.14 can create and save databases in widely used formats? Or is it limited to ODF? As important to me: I'd like nothing better than to volunteer for several of the items on your *Help Wanted* page. I've been retired now for about three years, but prior to that I have a long history in IT, including programming, documenting, and teaching. I can honestly say that I could easily handle any of the items in your *Easy* section, and at least a few in *Medium*. I look forward to discussing my volunteering for Open Office. *Michele Petrovsky*
Re: Hi, I'm wondering about ODF in comparison to DOCX
Microsoft’s exclusivity is good reason for everybody to get rid of MS Office and use a productivity suite like OpenOffice or LibreOffice that has file types that are widely accessible - MS Office is no better than OO and LO, perhaps it has more features theoretically but I never found anything I wasn’t able to do in OO or LO, and it is definitely not worth the subscription pricing, I had it for several years because our school system requires students to use MS Office, it is possible to use OO or LO instead of MS Office but is a bit inconvenient, so because the children had an education licence that we didn’t have to pay for we used MS Office, but I was glad to be rid of it when there were no more students in the house, it is slow to boot, a huge pain when a file automatically opens in MS Office because you forgot to tell it to use OO or LO, and it is inconvenient to use c.f. OO and LO, perhaps just a matter of familiarity but I think MS Office really is more clunky than OO and LO, so when the children finished High School I uninstalled MS Office even before the Ed. licence ended. However, I’ve almost entirely moved on from word processors, I only use OO or LO for spreadsheets and use Scrivener for almost all of my writing. But I hardly do any business writing these days, you would need a WP for that. PCS. > On 17 Feb 2023, at 3:58 am, W. Robert J. Re: Hi, I'm wondering about ODF in comparison to DOCX
Nikhil - Microsoft have done their best to make it impossible for others to create .docx files. Apache OpenOffice can save files in the older .doc format. LibreOffice (www.libreoffice.org) can save files in the .docx format, but the process isn't perfect. It usually works fine for simple documents. If you save your files as .odt or .doc, users of MS Word will be able to open them. - Robert From: Nikhil Kartha Sent: February 16, 2023 08:53 The reason I installed OpenOffice is because my dad recommended it when I was facing an issue with the copy of MS Office that we had. Hi, I'm wondering about ODF in comparison to DOCX
The reason I installed OpenOffice is because my dad recommended it when I was facing an issue with the copy of MS Office that we had. It is quite an annoyance however that the DOCX files when opened with OpenWriter have to be converted to ODF inorder to be saved. We typically use Windows and MS Office is just shipped with it usually. I want to guess that this is also an online compatible filetype as GMail and Whatsapp are able to open it. However, I have not had the chance to test ODF and would like to know why the software forces this conversion and ontop of that states there will be loss of something when saving in this format. If the file is missing from OO's /File /Recent documents, it should still be in the directory in which it was originally saved. Start OpenOffice from Programs button, use /File /Open and its navigation buttons to navigate to that directory, select the file and press Open. It will open, and once again appear on Recent Documents, which shows only the last ten files opened. If the file doesn't open, then you have a more serious situation. To attempt to recover your file, try the methods outlined in this Tutorial https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71=85038] for ways to try and recover any temporary Writer files that may still be on your computer. If that doesn't help, then as soon as possible do the following: Download Recuva or PhotoRec (only one needed) and let it do an indepth recovery of deleted files on your computer. You may get a file containing some or all of your data (or not). Do this as a first priority; other use of the computer may overwrite any existing but deleted files and prevent their recovery. There is no guarantee that you will recover anything useful. You may need to rename any such files to type .ods. This situation may have arisen because of Windows forcing an update on your computer; it is reported that such updates may cause file loss if they occur when files are open. -- Rory O'Farrell - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

Re: hi
Hi, Your cursor has to be at that place in the text, where you want to have the small number, which references a footnote. When you then use Insert > Footnote/Endnote, LibreOffice adds a small, superscript number in the text and then jumps to the footnote area. In the footnote area you find the same number, and in that line you write your footnote. Both numbers - that in the text and that in the footnote area - work as links, so that you can easily switch between the positions. If that does not work for you or if you are looking for something very different, then you need to explain it in more details. Otherwise we will not be able to help you. If that is the case the problem is in the user profile and no amount of un-installing and re-installing AOO will help. Most spell check issues result from some form of corruption in the user profile and can be fixed by resetting the Profile. For details on doing this see the following tutorial in the User Forum: Reset your user profile: https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74t=12426#p58403 If this is not the issue you are having or if resetting the profile does not help please come back with more details. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Can you describe what you're trying to do based on what you've done in other programs? e.g.: write a letter, make a spreadsheet or, within a program, indent text, sort columns, etc. If I can understand what you're trying to do, what you mean when you say navigational help, I may be able to offer assistance.

Leigh Hello again Leigh, Meant for my reply to go back to the list so that other folks can be part of the conversation. So am including the list in my reply. Please reply to the list if you have a response or more questions. In any case I have not experience with lesson planning so other that searching for lesson planning templates I really can't suggest whether the lesson planners found at this link might be of any real use. With that in mind please refer to... http://templates.openoffice.org/en/search?search_api_views_fulltext=lessonsort_by=createdsort_order=ASC The above link will refer you to the Lesson Planner templates I found at the OpenOffice web site. FYI - I got to the template web site by Opening OpenOffice (not a particular program like Write or Calc so got to the start screen that allows creation/selection of any Write, Calc, Impress, etc document to start) and clicking at the bottom left on the sheet of paper with a green + sight in the top left corner. Doing that took me to the templates web site. The link above was created when I searched for templates that included the word lesson. Hope they are what your are looking for. -Alan

Re: hi there...
Probably could be a localization issue. But I would suggest to add a screenshot, you can put it on imgur or some other free picture sharing website. Hi
Hi I have installed OpenOffice on all my family's computers and laptops, we have now also all brought iPads as well and was wondering if there is plans for an iPad app and if so do you have a time scale on when you expect to launch it as we find your product a lot easier to use than MS word and do not want to run different program's on the computers/laptops and iPads With thanks Robert Heayns Sent from my iPad --- List Conduct Guidelines: http://openoffice.apache.org/list-conduct.html To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
Hi
Dear sir or madam, I am wanting to know a bit about open office. From the programmer to its newest news of it. Who started it? How long did it take to get the idea out there? Stuff like that, if you could.
