Re: need help, please

2022-11-12 Thread PCS

Dear Marie,

I’ve had the 'do you want to reopen' or 'do you want to recover' messages from
time to time, but the recovery has always worked for me so I’ve never had to
fix your problem. But I offer the following suggestions:

1. Have you tried restarting your Mac to see if that clears the problem?
My apologies for stating the obvious, but just in case you are an ‘always on’
person and that slipped your mind.

2. If the app is really stuck and nobody else offers a better solution, I
would uninstall OpenOffice (i.e. drag it from the apps folder to the trash) and
then download and install a fresh copy of the app. (And hope that the problem
doesn’t carry through in any settings or extensions that weren’t replaced when
you replaced the app.) I’m still using ADSL internet so it takes a while to
download a new copy of an app, but it’s probably better to just do that than to
spend even more time and personal energy chasing a ‘better’ solution.

3. In the unlikely event that installing a virgin copy of OpenOffice
doesn’t fix the problem, I would try replacing OO with LibreOffice, on the
chance that might fix it.

I haven’t been down into the engine room of a Mac since OS-X replaced the
Classic OS, but simple work-arounds like these usually work for me when I have
a problem that has to be fixed and I don’t know how to fix it. It may be
equivalent to using a sledge hammer instead of precision tools, but if it works
without doing any damage, then why not use it?

Peter.

Re: need help, please

2022-11-12 Thread Steven Ahlers
This often happens when there was a hasty shutdown or crash of the computer.
Click on the Apple icon and select Force Quit. Close any program/app other than
Finder that is running. Then look in the folder that you store files in for
files that have ~lock. in their name and delete them (probably just the problem
file). Restart your computer, start OpenOffice, and then open the file.

Make sure you let the program completely shut down before shutting down your
computer. Also get in the habit of saving your files and shutting down
OpenOffice when you are walking away from your computer for extended periods of
time.

As a courtesy to you I have sent you a copy of this message. As a courtesy to
me please only reply to users@openoffice.apache.org so that all users can
assist you if you need further assistance.

Hi -- I can not use my home computer (I Mac OS X) past several days because the
OpenOffice is stuck. It won't open or close.
A box appears with this note
The last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit
while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?
   Don't ReopenReopen

It won't change, no matter which little box I click at the bottom.

Need Help Please

2015-12-21 Thread JEANNETTE LINDSAY
Dear Sirs:

I have been using open office now for several years. I really like the program.
It is great.

Recently (about 2 weeks now) it is giving me problems. I downloaded 4.1.2 to
upgrade to a newer version. I have downloaded and uninstalled this program 4
times now. I follow the instructions correctly. When I go to use it the program
will state that it is not responding. I have gone back to 4.1.1 and downloaded
it now several times. Again it states that it is not responding. It states that
the document is recovered and to push next to report it or to cancel to skip
that process. I have done it both ways and it still states that the program is
not responding. Could you please help me to fix this problem.

I do legal, accounting and resume typing for people. I really like this program
and I don't want to change to another program.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Sincerely

Jeannette

Dave, Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. For you information I
was still unable, even after following your instruction, to register or log
on to the user community forum. I have been successful in following your
link to the spoken tutorials which I am finding quite helpful. Thanks again
for your help.

I am also interested in possibly using Forum. Am using a Win 8.x machine.

Mailing List replies have been very helpful to me, but I believe that Forum
may have additional value, such as screenshot uploads, etc.
