Thank you for your replies David and Keith, that’s very much appreciated. I’ll 
be looking closely at the links to more information when I have time. 

As a user of computers for over 30 years I should have more “inside” knowledge 
of the software I’ve been using, especially the freely available Apache Open 
Office. 

I’ve had other “private” replies, offering slightly different advice, but I 
realise with open source software there must be more than one way of dealing 
with this problem (it really is a problem for the “not so knowledgeable“ 
computer users like myself). I’m also new to Mac devices so two hills to climb 
at the same time. 

However, I’ll work through the instructions available, making notes as I go for 
future reference, and I’m confident I’ll get there. 

Thank goodness for you guys who know all of this stuff.

downloaded the Open Office but when I try to open it, Mac gives me a pop up 
sign that says that Mac OS CANNOT OPEN OPRN OFFICE CAUSE THE DEVELOPER IS NOT 
VERIFIED AND THAT THEY CANT KNOW IF ITS FREE FROM MALWARE.

Whats the solution to this? Cause I just paid for a marketing course that 
its all based on OPEN OFFICE usage and I cant download it. 

Please let me know whats going on.

instructions for installing AOO on Mac

Just go to the download page on www.openoffice.org and select your Operating 
System and version. If your Operating System is in the pull down menu then just 
download it.

Gloria,

Assuming you downloaded it from OpenOffice.org, opened the DMG and dragged the 
icon to the Application Folder. Then you are experiencing the Gatekeeper 
function of the Operating System (not Safari).

To overcome this simply Right-click (Control-click) on the icon in the 
Application Folder and then follow the subsequent menus to allow the program to 
open, you should only need to do this the first time.

I'm assuming you get the error message about the downloaded app. Go to the
system preferences after the error message pops up. Click on security. You
will see an option to open it anyway. It will ask for your administration
password. After that you should be able to open it.

Es ist ganz einfach:
Du schiebst, wie Dir der Pfeil es andeutet, mit dem Maus-Cursor (Anklicken und 
„Festhalten“) einfach das blaue Icon mit den Vögeln auf das Ordner-Icon mit dem 
„A“ und „lässt los“. Dadurch wird das Programm in den Ordner „Programme“ auf 
Deiner Festplatte kopiert. Dort kannst Du das Programm-Symbol wiederfinden und 
mit Doppelklick öffnen. Du kannst aber auch zum einfachen Wiederfinden das 
Programm-Symbol an eine beliebige Stelle in Deinem Dock befördern, von wo aus 
Du das Programm ebenfalls starten kannst.

Zur Erklärung:
Du hast offenbar bislang das Programm aus dem diskimage (dmg) gestartet, was 
prinzipiell ebenfalls möglich aber für ein dauerhaftes Arbeiten nicht wirklich 
sinnvoll ist.

Wo genau muss ich die Software ablegen? Ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich die 
runtergelassene Software zwar öffnen kann, diese sich aber nicht auf dem Mac

tone, i will let you know when i called microsoft they tried to sell me their 
program at first, but after i said i did not want to pay that they tried to 
sell me open office, but i knew i could get it on line.  as you may have noted 
i have had this notice that my macbook air could not fully open this program, i 
will wait until i receive further advise or my son will  solve it for me.  
remember i am rather ancient to know the answers towhees questions.  talk soon

You do not give us much useful information to troubleshoot from, but my
SWAG would be that it is GateKeeper that is giving you problems. It is a
known issue and is detailed in the Release Notes at the following link:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.2+Release+Notes#AOO4.1.2ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues.
Follow the Mac support article link at the end of the first bullet and
follow the procedure there.

If that does not alleviate your problem reply back with additional
details as to what version of OSX you are using and any error messages
you received when trying to install.

You need to delete the folder org.openoffice.script.savedState. It is in the Saved 
Application State folder in your User/Library.

When I try to click on either do or don’t re-open, nothing happens.

(und vor allem bei einem Betriebssystem-Update) eine gute Tat sich vorher durch 
Backups abzusichern. Dies kannst Du gut mit Time Machine oder sehr gut mit 
dem kostenpflichtigen CarbonCopyCloner, mit dem Du eine identische Kopie 
Deiner Festplatte auf einer externen Platte anlegen kannst, so dass Du im 
schlimmsten Fall von dieser booten und einfach alles wieder zurückschaufeln 
kannst.

Problem mit Open Office für Mac (Fenster wiederherstellen verschwindet nicht)

Guten Tag
Offensichtlich ist das oben erwähnte Problem verbreitet, es finden sich 
verschiedene Lösungsvorschläge im Internet. Ich komme jedoch nicht 
zurecht damit, da im meinem iMac die File-Struktur nicht gleich ist wie 
in den Anleitungen beschrieben. Ich wäre für eine einfache wirksame 
Lösung/Hilfe sehr dankbar, dieses Problem verhindert u.a. auch das 
drucken! Ich verwende Open Office seit Jahren und war bis jetzt vollauf 
zufrieden damit. Im Widows Betriebssystem hatte ich nie ein solches 
Problem, jetzt auf dem Mac bin ich ziemlich aufgeschmissen, ich sollte 
alle Funktionen sobald wie möglich wieder zur Verfügung haben, 
andernfalls muss ich mich bald nach einer anderen Software umschauen.
Ausgelöst wurde das Problem als ich ein paar Zeilen Text vom 
Notiz-Zettel in in ein Open Office Dokument via copy/paste übertragen 
wollte.
Ich hoffe ich erhalte bald einen einfachen Lösungsvorschlag, neu 
installieren von OO hilft nicht, da offensichtlich gewissen Sachen 
auch nach dem Löschen im System bleiben, was dazu führt, dass auch nach 
einer Neuinstallation der gleiche Fehler weiter besteht.


Danke zum voraus für eine baldige Antwort.

When you download, it automatically selects the correct version for your
computer.  It should say near the bottom of the green box what is going
to be downloaded.

Failing that, you can go to:
http://www.openoffice.org/download/other.html#aoo

And select the version you want.

Very likely is that you browse to this webpage via a Windows PC. The 
green box reads the browser data and presents a suitable install file - 
mostly this works as expected. ;-)

very big problem with install Open Office on Mac OS 10.9

I have a big problem with Open Office 4 : I try to install (after desinstall, I think it was a big mistake, but it’s too late, it’s done!)
