Transfer hem on to a USB key on the old computer ands off the USB key on the
new computer. Be careful to observe the USB device removal protocols.

If in doubt seek informed local help and supervision.

Open a dropbox account and transfer your old files to it then log on to it with
your new machine and download them.

Have fun

Re: Transferring documents

2017-06-28 Thread James Knott
There are a couple of ways. The easiest is to use a USB drive. Copy
the files from the Documents folder on the old computer to the drive and
to the Documents folder on the new computer. If you have a network, you
can use file sharing to do the same in one step.

Unlock please

2017-06-28 Thread Petra Van Nuis
Hi,

I just got an iMac. I used to have windows and had saved hundreds of documents
as odt files through open office 3.3 on my external hard drive. When I got my
new Imac, i downloaded open office 4, then plugged in my hard drive and tried
to open my open office odt files. The message that comes up is that they are
"locked for editing by unknown user" and that I can open using read only or
open a copy for editing. How do I unlock?

Thanks so much for your help!

Warmly,
Petra

Find in your old hard drive all files named ".~lock.*.*#" and delete them
all, so then original documents should be unlocked for edit.

This message (below) appeared on my OpenOffice page and will not disappear when
I click either option, restore or don't restore. I did read through the few
posts regarding this bug. Please tell me DEFINITIVELY how to remove this
message from my screen.

"The application “OpenOffice” unexpectedly quit while trying to restore its
windows. Do you want to try to restore its windows again?"

Thanks.

URGENT! 2 problems with Open Office 4.1.3

2017-06-28 Thread Mary Ellen DORISI
Hello

I have been a user of Open Office for a couple of years. Recently , however I
have had 2 issues that I cannot explain. FYI I haven’t made any recent
upgrades or installation of any new programs. I am running Windows 10, have
both Ethernet and WiFi; have more than enough memory and storage. I am using
Bitdefender. I Used to administer the systems in my law office so I consider
myself a bit more savvy than average.

The issue:

  1. This started in the latter part of April, 2017. I lost my dictionary. I
tried to install language packs to no avail. I repaired the program. No dice.
So I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. No good. Have lived without
it.
  2. Now I can’t save my documents. This is the message I receive.

Error saving the document __document name

Error creating object

Could not create backup copy.

It happens every time I use the program. So I have started giving files
different names but this is not a solution.

I can create a file and save it, but I can’t save thereafter.

Please help. I work from home so I rely on my computer. If I can’t solve it,
I’ll have to find something else. Thanks.
