Re: [Users] New engine install on remote DB fails uuid-ossp extension is not loaded

2012-08-15 Thread Alex Lourie
Hi Ian

You're right in that superuser privileges are required to make this work. But
it would rarely happen that remote DB admin would give you a user with super
privileges. The solution we've come up with is this:

1. Use (or tell remote DB admin to do so) the psql command to load the
extension functions to template1 DB on remote DB server:
 psql -U postgres -d template1 -f /usr/share/pgsql/contrib/uuid-ossp.sql
2. Now, all newly created databases will include extension functions.

template1 is a special DB in postgres. In fact, when you create a new DB, it is
actually copied from template1 with a new name.

This way, we can still work with the user that has no superuser privileges in
the remote DB server.

Subject: Re: [Users] New engine install on remote DB fails uuid-ossp
extension is not loaded

 Here's what the install log tells me:

 2012-08-14 11:56:12::INFO::engine_validators::425::root:: Successfully
 created temp database on server cmcd-web.
 2012-08-14 11:56:12::INFO::engine_validators::443::root:: Checking that uuid
 extension is loaded by default on the remote server
 2012-08-14 11:56:12::DEBUG::common_utils::350::root:: running sql query
 'SELECT uuid_generate_v1();' on db server: 'cmcd-web'.
 2012-08-14 11:56:12::DEBUG::common_utils::286::root:: cmd = /usr/bin/psql -h
 cmcd-web -p 5432 -U ovirt -d ovirt_engine_test -c SELECT uuid_generate_v1();
 2012-08-14 11:56:12::DEBUG::common_utils::291::root:: output =
 2012-08-14 11:56:12::DEBUG::common_utils::292::root:: stderr = ERROR:
 function uuid_generate_v1() does not exist

 So, the installer is trying to create a database ovirt_engine_test and
 succeeding. But until you run `psql -U postgres -d database_name -f
 /usr/share/pgsql/contrib/uuid-ossp.sql`, the function uuid_generate_v1()
 won't be available. Therefore, the temporary database the installer is using
 to determine compatibility fails.

The problem ended up being that the postgres role which ovirt is using needs to
have superuser privileges. Once I granted superuser to the ovirt role I
created, all worked well.

[Users] Missing VM disk images after yum update

2012-08-15 Thread Ricky Schneberger
After my last yum update I got some strange errors in my cluster.

Today when I tried to start a VM i got a pop-up that says:

 Error:
Cannot run VM without at least one bootable disk.
Alternatives:
-Create a disk for this VM, and rerun the VM.
-Change the boot sequence using the Edit VM command (Boot Option Sub-Tab).
-Use the Run-Once command to select a different boot option and rerun
the VM.

When I went to the Virtual disks tab there was no disk left. On the
snapshots tab the still exist, and some of them seems even to be OK

I then check my NFS-storage to se if they still exist even there, and
they was (Puh!)!
I tried to mount the images with kpartx and everything went fine.
So far so good. The data is still there. GOOD!

But, how can I get things together again? Andwhat happened when I
did the yum update?

Is it a 3.1 version you're installing? Because according to the code it's 3.1,
but according to the logs it's a very early version of 3.1 release we had at
the beginning of the release cycle.

Please let me know.

Alex.

Re: [Users] New engine install on remote DB fails uuid-ossp extension is not loaded

2012-08-15 Thread Ian Levesque

In fact, when you create a new DB, it
 is actually copied from template1 with a new name.

 This way, we can still work with the user that has no superuser privileges in
 the remote DB server.

Thanks for your reply. Though, to be fair, a DB admin might also object to
including the uuid-ossp extension functions by default on the template DB. That
said, it's certainly preferred over full superuser privs :)

Cheers,
Ian

Re: [Users] Missing VM disk images after yum update

Andwhat happened when I
did the yum update?

which server did you upgrade (engine or host)?
which rpms where updated?
for engine, did you run yum update or engine-upgrade?

There is no firefox plugin for windows right?

Anyone knows how to access the spice console from a windows machine?

Re: [Users] Ovirt 3.0 : remove failed iscsi domain

Hello,

During my tests, I had setup a iSCSI domain for my test node.

I have removed the corresponding LUN on the SAN but not in ovirt, and it
does not appear anymore in ovirt GUI.

The problem is that my node still tries to connect to the SAN, and the
SAN logs  those failures.

What is the way to properly remove the LUN in ovirt ?

(I won’t be able to bring the LUN online at all).

do you still see the storage domain in the engine?
did you try to remove it?

[Users] disk image grew after moving to new storage domain?

2012-08-15 Thread Darrell Budic
I had a Thin Provision disk that was about 6Gb prior to moving it to a new
storage domain. Now it's 40GB (the full size of the volume) even though it
still says it's a Thin Provision allocation. Is this expected or is there any
way to avoid it? This was an oVirt 3.0 setup.

The move was to a new storage system with a 10g connection. I don't suppose
there's any way to change the address of an existing storage domain to reflect
new connectivity, is there?

Thanks!

To deploy the engine on a single machine you can use the allinone plugin
to the installer.

then you just use the admin to create VMs and the user portal for VDI
access.

(please note lack of spice browser wrapper for windows clients at this time)

this may help you a bit:

Re: [Users] Install of oVirt 3.1

2012-08-15 Thread Jason Brooks
I just hit this issue while trying out oVirt on Google Compute Engine (I'm
testing Gluster stuff only, so it doesn't matter that the GCE hosts are VMs).

GCE offers CentOS as one of its VM image options, and selinux is disabled in
their CentOS images.

For the sake of posterity, I got around this block in the installer by editing
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/scripts/engine-setup.py to remove
_configureSelinuxBoolean, from the list of functions in the 'Handling httpd'
portion of the install script.

Regards, Jason
