Re: [Users] VM snapshot creating failed

2013-08-29 Thread Laszlo Hornyak
ok, it is there in the vdsm log:

Thread-58161::ERROR::2013-08-29
07:48:18,255::libvirtvm::2089::vm.Vm::(snapshot)
vmId=`e4226eb3-9758-4d19-a4d3-0a263189013d`::The base volume doesn't exist:
{'device': 'disk', 'domainID': 'f5846dee-cbe1-415e-8452-d9fec8f2bcd0',

'c7a90893-83e9-4781-905f-470a2e6b653f'}

And this is the relevant snippet from vdsm:

# The volume we want to snapshot doesn't exist
_rollbackDrives(newDrives)
self.log.error(The base volume doesn't exist: %s, baseDrv)

I would suspect that this is another DB inconsistency, the engine is sending a
disk to snapshot that does not exist on the storage. Can you still start this
VM?

Thank you,
Laszlo

Liron, looks like you were right and it was not the business_entities_snapshot
but the async_tasks that caused the data loss. I hope there are no more of
these :) Can you help to figure out how the import operation could have failed
in this way? Is there a BZ for this already?

Thank you,

If I understand correctly, this is what happens to your installation,
the AddVmFromTemplate command goes to fail and engine tries to

just to be sure, please note, that the task actually completed
successfully from my point of view. The new VM (direved from the
template clone task) is fully usable and on the webadmin the task is
  shown as completed.

So maybe at some point in time the engine does get the job status wrong
  and the problem begins...

I need to look into this but I think it should be safe to remove this
record while the engine is down. Make sure to make a backup if you
  try!
OK, I did the following test:

  - created a new VM from my custom template (with cloned Disk)
  - waited for the job to complete
  - manually deleted the related DB entry from the table async_tasks
  - set host/node to maintenance
  - rebootet engine

Result: The VM did NOT disappear! :-)

I think somehow ovirt-engine does get the results of the job wrong, thus
it does not recognize that the job completed *successfully* and does a
retry after reboot (which fails horribly and leads to disappearing VMs).

  Thanks

Re: [Users] lvs _remove_me_UUID

2013-08-29 Thread Dafna Ron

these are orphan objects.
probably disks that could not be removed by vdsm for some reason and so
vdsm added the _remove_me perfix.
I would grep the UUID of these lvs in the vdsm logs to see if you can
find the reason why vdsm failed to delete them in the first place.
you can also check if any of your virtual disks are in illegal state and
if so try to remove them from the UI.
but basically there is no rollback on lv delete and if they have the
remove_me it means that there was a failure in delete...

Re: [Users] so, what do you want next in oVirt?

2013-08-29 Thread Juan Pablo Lorier
Hi,

I think that one of the best things from Proxmox is the ability to
connect to any of the hosts via web and been able to admin the hole
infrastructure from there. This avoids the single point of failure that
today engine represents in ovirt plataform.
I agree with Jakub that been able to mix Intel and AMD hosts would be
great so we can use the hole of the servers into a DC and engine may
migrate VM to the same kind of processors if available but if not,
migrate to any available host and alert about the performance degradation.
I'm still a rookie to ovirt so at this time I don't know all the
features to make further coments. I think you have a great product and
the best of it is the speed it's improving.

Re: [Users] so, what do you want next in oVirt?

importing any data storage domain i assume?

 Yes.

Possibility of direct use of HW by VM.

 such as?

Telephone modem. PCI-express cards. Graphic cards

+ USB devices, we have hardware license keys for some software. In kvm/qemu
I can expose the license key directly to a VM.

and the absolutely fantastic feature would be to create clusters from
 Intel and AMD processors together!

well, you can do that today if you want to via a config change. the only
thing is live migration won't work (you should probably use -cpu host to
get best performance, since live migration won't be used anyway)
(well, in theory we could live migrate only between hosts of same cpu
vendor, but not sure interesting enough use case to make cluster and
scheduling more complex). though you can do that part on your own with the
new pluggable scheduler, or use -cpu host to get max performance if you
 don't care about live migration

From my point of view it is better to have slower cpu performance and
possibility to use all of our servers in cluster. I would like to have live
migration available from intel to amd. The problem is only in cpu
instruction sets? If so, I can use only common sets.

Another feature which I forgot is network between VMs and mirroring
 traffic. Both configurable from WUI.

 Thank you ;-)
