A scheduled reboot of a host should begin in moving it to maintenance

  Hi Mario.

As Dan explained, in managed data centers a host is first put into
  maintenance
mode when needed. This ensures any critical resources are handled properly,
and in this case the VMs are migrated if needed.

Many thanks for both replies. I see that putting in maintenance mode an
host could be the right way to shutdown an host.
so far. We do have thoughts on allowing a shadow VM for fault tolerance in

 Thank you too.
I dare to ask another thing (but I have already seen negative replies in
mailing list): auto startup of virtual machines. It is a feature very useful
because in case of an unexpected server shutdown there is no need to call me
to restart vms at next boot.

 Thanks again,
 Mario

Hi Mario,
Indeed auto-start is missing as well.
If you have programming capabilities, feel free to send patches.

Other than that, I suggest that you keep monitoring the list, so
when a poll for features is made, you can add your vote. Here's
a recent example which is relevant for the next version:

Hi,
Disk will be in illegal status in case that ovirt failed to initiate the delete
task for it,
as the engine can't tell what's the exact disk state at this stage (on what
phase the delete operation has failed) - the disk status is shown is illegal.
Therefore there might be many possible reasons, each issue that will fail the
creation of the delete task would cause the disk to remain in that status
(along permissions issues)
The disk deletion won't succeed till those issues would be resolved.

Mine still seems to be doing the same thing, is it a permission issue or a
 bug?

Append the extra ID eg. diskhref=/api/disks/lk342- dfsdf...

into your URL this'll give you your image ID.

 Go to your storage share:
 cd /data/storage-id/master/vms/ storage-id
 grep -ir 'vmname' *
You'll find the image-id reference here too.

Then the image you will want to remove is in the
 /data/storage-id/images/image- id
I assume you could safely remove this whole folder if you wanted to
 delete the disk.

To remove the illegal state I did it through the API so again with the
 URL above https://ovirtengine/disks/ disk-id send a DELETE using HTTP/CURL

Again, this was a poor mans solution but it worked for me.

It seems like an unrelated failure. I do not know what's blocking
migration traffic. Could you see if libvirtd.log and qemu logs at

It seems that on VM.log under qemu of desdt host I have:
 ...
-incoming tcp:[::]:49153: Failed to bind socket: Address already in
 use

Is that port really taken (`ss -ntp` should tell by whom)?

yeah !
It seems gluster uses it on both sides

Since libvirt has been using this port range first, would you open a
bug on gluster to avoid it?

Dan. (prays that Vdsm is not expected to edit libvirt's migration port
   range on installation)

If it makes you feel better, you can't even do that :-) Unfortunately,
the port range used for migration is hard-coded in libvirt. And since we
don't use port allocator yet (patches are in progress), we don't
automatically avoid ports that are already taken. All this is going to
  change, though.

Are these patches posted? Is there a libvirt BZ that tracks this issue?

https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2013-October/msg00513.html
is v3 of a patch that makes libvirt skip ports that are already in use.
Of course, if something binds to that port just before QEMU is started,
it will still fail. But that's a separate issue that may only be solved
by giving QEMU a socket which is already bound rather than telling QEMU
to bind to it.

A patch for making the port range configurable was not post yet...

[Users] desktop virtualization and GPU support

Hi,

Currently we have a customer who would like to migrate to a thin-client
virtual desktop environment.

What is the status for GPU support in ovirt? Is 1:1 or 1:4 possible,
where we'd attach a single GPU to each VM or one GPU to 4 VM's like in
Citrix of VMWare?

If we don't add GPU's will the desktops be usable at all?

Thanks in advance,

looking for into /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log on the engine but I
haven't found anything about it. I failed to remove this disk with the
webadmin or the API. It's very annoying because it is a 100GB disk on a
SAN and ovirt considers that there is no left space enough on the
relevant storage domain to create any more vms...

Mine still seems to be doing the same thing, is it a permission issue or a

[Users] Exports : many success, one failure

Hi,

I was NFS-exporting many VMs from a 3.1 (iscsi) to a 3.3 (iscsi) oVirt
and it was running fine.

On a linux VM with 2 disks, I see the export process smoothly filling up
the NFS tree. When its seems to reach the data expected size, the web
gui tells me the export has failed.

The engine.log shows this, which does not help me much.

There is still plenty of disk space on the nfs export domain.
Network has not been interrupted or whatever.

There are snapshots but I checked the collapse box when exporting.

What should I look at?

[Users] Recommended OS for stability and centralized NFS storage?

2013-10-14 Thread David Sloane
I've had some challenges getting oVirt running without errors on CentOS 6.4
64-bit, and some NIC-driver-loading problems with the Fedora build of the oVirt
node (ovirt-node-iso-3.0.1-1.0.2.vdsm.fc19 vs. igb driver + Intel I340-T4).

I'm trying to find the right balance of stability and hardware support. I
mentioned NFS in the title because I don't need GlusterFS features.

The CentOS-compatible repository at ovirt.org looks like it's stopped at oVirt
3.0.x, while Fedora and RHEL are supported for 3.3. In my initial engine and
node builds, I tried mixing FC, RH and Cent repositories, but that seems like a
clearly bad idea, and I'm starting over.

I could probably get CentOS + oVirt 3.0.x running, but I would lose several
months of oVirt revisions/features/bug-fixes. RHEL seems logical, but I don't
have the budget for licenses.

Any suggestions?

Do you use the EL6 or the FC18 (or FC19) packages with your CentOS-oVirt

I think you can just use the EL release for CentOS
http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/3.3/rpm/EL/6/noarch/ovirt-release-el6-8-1.noarch.rpm

I would also follow the CentOS how to http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/oVirt

I've tried restarting the SPM Hypervisor and the Ovirt Engine. Still no dice.
Which host would have the lock? Where should I look for log files?

The logs for vdsm/engine are located at /var/log/vdsm/ and
/var/log/ovirt-engine/ correspondingly.
Try to check if there's any non-cleared task at the SPM (vdsClient -
getAllTasks).
For manually clearing the task, the async_task table in the DB can be
manipulated.
Disk's status resides at images tables - imagestatus column ('1' for
OK/unlocked).
Please attach vdsm/engine logs for further investigation...

Just provisioned another VM from an existing template and the contents of the
new VM are from a different template?! Did the ovirt engine DB get corrupt?

To denounce that possibility, can you please try creating the VM again
from rest-api/UI (and see whether the outcome is the consistent..)

Whats the best way to go about making sure, all data is consistent?

I'd start with verifying the VM configuration first; i.e. check whether the
other VM properties (e.g. memory/os/etc) have been copied from the wrong
template.

Subject: [Users] deleting a disk that doesn't exist into the storage domain

 Hello,

 On ovirt 3.2 el6 I created a disk attached to a vm but I can't remove it
anymore. When I look to the log I have this message :
 2013-10-11 23:43:23,086 ERROR
 [org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.VDSCommandBase] (pool-3-thread-47)

 domain=5ef8572c-0ab5-4491-994a-e4c30230a525
So it is referenced into the database but doesn't exist on the storage
domain. I want to erase it from the webadmin, and I try to find the
reference of thios disk in the pg database so I can delete it but I haven't
found it. How can I do this?
ps : it appears in the webadmin as a floating disk but I can't attach it to
 any vm.

What is the status of the disk (is it marked as Illegal)?
You might hit the disk removal issue addressed by [1]
which has been integrated to ovirt 3.3.
You can find the disk by correlating the 'ID' column in disks
main-tab with 'image_group' column in images db table.
However, removing the disk manually should be left as last resort.
Can you please attach the full vdsm/engine logs?

Hi Malini, great job. I really liked it. I'd suggest evaluate better
the load bars color. IMHO, it seems disconnected with the overall
theme colors or even with the green used in unselected Up icons and
the head's green line.
Please also evaluate the colors for all bar situations and the text
color for each of them:

- Selected / Unselected.
- Green / Orange / Red.
- Low / Medium (tricky for text color) / High value.
