 Hi,
have you got some free time and do you want to get involved in oVirt
 integration?
Here are a couple of bugs you can hopefully fix in less that one day:

Bug 1059950 - If cluster=Default does not exist in hosted-engine it will fail
 and timeout
 Bug 1072664 - engine-setup.manual create database fail.

Is this the first time you try to contribute to oVirt project?
You can start from here [1][2]!

 Hello,

I just finnished installing a new ovirt all in one installation and I noticed
 that I have 2 datacenters.

 A default one and a local_datacenter. I don't understand why I have 2
datacenters but I suppose I can delete one.

Default is always created. Normal setups start with just it, and others can be
created if needed.

local_datacenter is all-in-one-specific - you were asked about it during setup
- name, location etc.
It's local in that it uses a local directory on the host, so VMs on it cannot
be migrated to other
hosts if/when you add them.

I'll take this as an opportunity to ask some questions:
if and under what circumstances can the default DC
be safely removed if you do not use it?

Or can't you delete it, would it break something (what)?

Why is there a default DC in the first place?

Seems so, not sure it makes sense (to me).

Ohad now opened [1] for this, on iso domains.

That's weird too, but perhaps a different issue (data and not iso).

- after creating dc and cluster and adding host to engine, reports were able

[Users] [oVirt Test Day 3] All-in-one

2014-03-06 Thread Piotr Kliczewski
Hello,

I tested all-in-one and here is what I did.

I installed fresh f19 on a vm running on my f20 (nested virt). During
the installation of ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-allinone rpm I noticed
that yum verification step for vdsm run forever but the second attempt
succeeded. During engine setup iso domain failed to create [1]. Second
attempt solved it.

I noticed that for local cluster a user is able only to create data
domain and only import iso and export domains. During creation of data
domain I got permissions failure which disappeared after running
second time (performed twice with the same result).

After successful vm start I was not able to open spice console due to:
Unable to connect to the graphic server. When I tried with
virt-manager I got: viewer connection to hypervisor host got refused
or disconnected. Danken noticed the same issue for CentOS. He noticed
that after disabling iptables service it worked as well as after
starting it again.

Thanks,
Piotr

[Users] affects of changing compatibility setting on running cluster

2014-03-06 Thread Charles Weber
Hi everyone,
I believe I need to change my cluster compatibility level and would like to
know if I can do this ona live cluster or if I have to change everything to
maintenance mode first.

I ran engine setup and upgraded to current engine level then tried to add a new
node using the 3.3.4 el6 iso. This resulted in an error:

Host x.x.x.x is installed with VDSM version (4.14) and cannot join cluster
Default which is compatible with VDSM versions [4.13,4.9,4.11,4.12,4.10].

My current versions are:
Engine 3.3.4-1.el6 at compatibiltiy version 3.2

2 Nodes running CentOS 6.4 with VDSM 4.10.3-0.36.23.el6

Am I correct that I need to change the compatibility version to 3.3?
This has some production VMs, do I need to turn everything off first or is this
a non-interruptive change?
How will this upgrade affect my current 2 hosts at their version?

My original idea was to migrate working VMs to new ovirt ISO node and then
re-install original nodes to the same version off the 3.3.4 el6 iso.

I appreciate any advice.

[Users] [oVirt Test Day 3] devel env report

2014-03-06 Thread Alexander Wels
I installed the engine development environment from scratch on:

Fedora 19:
Followed the instructions and in about 30 minutes I was compiling a new engine
which failed the first compile due to a java perm space error, I restarted the
compile and it finished successfully. The box only had 4G of memory available
so that might be the cause for the perm space issue. The instructions where up
to date and accurate on what to do.

Running the engine worked perfectly.

Centos 6.5:
Followed the instructions, and noticed the following omissions:

1. Issues with installing JBOSS as there is no repository available for
Centos. After manual downloaded I installed JBOSS manually and continued on.
2. Then I found that maven is not available in a yum repo mentioned in the
document anywhere so I have to manually install maven.
3. For the 3rd party packages, if you use java-devel it installs java 1.6, if
you want to use java 1.7 you need to install java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel instead.

After fixing those 3 issues, I had the same perm space error for Centos. Again
that might be because the machine only has 4G of memory available. Rerunning
the compile completed successfully.

Had one minor hickup when running the engine, I used a live-cd to install
Centos, and it didn't come with /etc/mime.types. This caused an exception in
the engine log and none of the pages were styled. So I had to install mailcap
to get it. Opened [1] to track this issue.

Gentoo-engine:
I was unable to get a working Gentoo machine (After many many hours of
compiling the kernel wouldn't boot, must not have set the right flags or
something), so unable to test here.

Alexander

[Users] [ovirt test day 3] Documentation - man pages result

2014-03-06 Thread Moti Asayag
Hi,

In the third ovirt test day I reviewed the manuals of a various
ovirt tools and commands:

Here are my findings (haven't reported any bugs for them):

The engine-backup and engine-upgrade-check has no man pages,
however help is available by providing the --help argument:

No manual entry for engine-backup
No manual entry for engine-upgrade-check
No manual entry for ovirt-shell

engine-config man page:
---
1. engine-config ACTION [--cver=version] [-p |
--properties=/path/to/alternate/property/fie] [-c |
--config=/path/to/alter-nate/config/file]

s/fie/file

2. version relevant configuration version to use
should be:
   --cverrelevant configuration version to use

3. -g key, --get=key [--cversion=version]
should be:
   -g key, --get=key [--cver=version]

4. The man pages misses an explanation how to set passwords using the
--interactive argument which is described in the the output of engine-config
--help

engine-manage-domains man page:
---
In general, there is a great complexity in explaining the usage of the command,
too many combinations.

1. Examples:
 -action=add -domain=example.com --user=admin --provider=IPA
--passwordFile=/tmp/.pwd
Add a domain called example.com, using user admin with
ldap server type IPA and read the password from
   /tmp/.pwd.

The arguments --user, --provider and --passwordFile should be replaced with
-user, -provider and -passwordFile respectively.

2. changePasswordMsg - doesn't appear in the man page (appears only via --help)

Thanks,
Moti

Re: [Users] tags?

2014-03-06 Thread Andrew Cathrow

- Original Message -
 Hello,

Can someone point me at a guide or explain to me the purpose of tags?
 I see
that I can assign them to VMs and users, but don't grasp the purpose.

It's a way of grouping elements together.
Eg. tag all the product VMs / Hosts
Then filter by these tags to perform operations just on those.

Re: [Users] Upgrade from 3.4.0-0.9 to 3.4.0-0.12

2014-03-06 Thread Yair Zaslavsky

Subject: [Users] Upgrade from 3.4.0-0.9 to 3.4.0-0.12

I got the following error while trying to upgrade

;; -HEADER- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 35994

 psql:upgrade/03_04_0600_event_notification_methods.sql:10: ERROR: column

Maurice,
As far as I understand, this was resolved by
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1072549
(CC'ing Eli who worked on this bug)
Eli - I see the patch has script numbering of 03_05 - is there a plan to
provide 03_04 script for that fix?

Yair

[Users] [ovirt test day 3] DWH installation

2014-03-06 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
For test day 3 I've tested DWH installation.

first step, getting info on how to install it:
gone to ovirt.org, followed Start using oVirt now, there's no clue about
DWH or reports there or a link to what's next basic oVirt engine setup.
gone to http://www.ovirt.org/File:OVirt-3.0-Installation_Guide-en-US.pdf no
clue about DWH existence
gone to http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.4_Test_Day no clue on how to test it
using search lead to the following pages but no instructions on how to
setup it there:

http://www.ovirt.org/How_to_setup_a_oVirt_DWH_development_environment
http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt_DWH

Not opening a BZ because Yaniv told me he's aware of the issue and will
update the wiki starting next week.

second step, installation with:
# yum install ovirt-engine-dwh
# engine-setup
Install Data Warehouse on this host (Yes, No) [Yes]: Yes
selected local database, automatic provisioning

just installed usage experience: I've installed DWH, now what?
connected to the web application, looking for DWH info: nothing on the
webapp
followed guide link: leads to http://www.ovirt.org/Documentation
no clue there, so followed Guide to oVirt features which land to
http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.0_Feature_Guide which is outdated

Not sure if open a BZ about above or if it will be fixed as part of the wiki
update.

installed reports for seeing stats collected by DWH:
opened Bug 1073340 - traceback looking at system dashboard on a cleanly
installed system

That said, once added an host and created a VM everything looks working fine on
both Fedora 19 and CentOS
I wasn't able to test it on Gentoo because snmp4j failed to build due to
unmappable ascii encoding (I'm using italian locale)
Not opened a BZ on gentoo bugzilla since it comes from an experimental overlay

Second test, install with remote DB:
needed to use ovirt-3.4-snapshot instead of ovirt-3.4.0-prerelease for
having the fixes on remote DB setup
hit Bug 1067548 - [DWH-SETUP][TEXT] - misconfiguartion of remote DB setup
note that also report is affected by the same issue
other than that it seems to work fine on Fedora 19 and CentOS.
