Well maybe begin yourself as a good example and write down for the community / others what you did to solve your problems? I'm a little amazed you want to know from others the settings needed but you don't provide anything of your settings you already tweaked to achieve your goal. a good way to start would maybe etherpad.ovirt.org and write some FAQ for the most common use cases? If no one else is willing to start I will do it at some time (when I have some). Re: [ovirt-users] hosted engine health check issues
Hi, How can I disable notifications? The notification is configured in /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/broker.conf section notification. The email is sent when the key state_transition exists and the string OldState-NewState contains the (case insensitive) regexp from the value. Is it intended to send out these messages and detect that ovirt engine is down (which is false anyway), but not to restart the vm? Forget about emails for now and check the /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/agent.log and broker.log (and attach them as well btw). oVirt hosts think that hosted engine is down because it seems that hosts can't write to hosted-engine.lockspace due to glusterfs issues (or at least I think so). The hosts think so or can't really write there? The lockspace is managed by sanlock and our HA daemons do not touch it at all. We only ask sanlock to get make sure we have unique server id. Is is possible or planned to make the whole ha feature optional? Well the system won't perform any automatic actions if you put the hosted engine to global maintenance and only start/stop/migrate the VM manually. I would discourage you from stopping agent/broker, because the engine itself has some logic based on the reporting. Hi Guys, I'm not able to write a howto yet as we need to check how this is running on high traffic and we are going soon. Than, we need to test some other functions before I can actually write something down. Because this is not all documented well indeed I'm in testmode and doing some @ life system as reallife environments are always coming with other things than your prefec test. I cannot say I needed promiscuouity, I did some things you would normally do on pfsense which fixed that part. Well, there is already beta documentation for rhev 3.4 at: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/ So I guess the answer will be ovirt 3.4.x but someone from RH can answer this better, I'm sure. Say if non admin user A in power user portal want to create vm from template C created by non admin user B, I found out that A need to have both power user role and userbasedtemplatevm role to make it work. If i only assign userbasedtemplatevm to C, A can only view the template in power user portal but not able to create vm from it. I'd say the problem is that the template has some disks and as a UserTemplateBasedVm only you are not allowed to Access Image Storage Domains? Thanks for pointing that out, I really didn't think the disk has permissions too :) Because PowerUserRole has more permissions than UserTemplateBasedVm, so I think assigning PowerUserRole is enough to see the template in power user portal. Based on this thought, I did the following two experiment: 1. I assigned PowerUserRole to user A in Configure - System Permissions, but after that I still cannot see template C in power user portal. The above role assignment result in user A having PowerUserRole inherited from System Permission, and based on [1], user A should have PowerUserRole on template C, right ? yes, you should be able to verify this in the webadmin-template main tab-permissions subtab 2. Now based on 1 if I explicitly add PowerUserRole to user A on template C, I can see template C and create vms from it. but it should already be there. And also, since you have created the template as public everyone should have the UserTemplateBasedVm on it. You could verify this on the same subtab. For my understanding, the above two role assignment should have the same result. Any ideas? so, if you have a template on which everyone has UserTemplateBasedVm and a user with PowerUserRole and you can not see it in the userportal, it should be a bug. But for me it seems working on current upstream code... [1]: http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/engine-devel/2012-December/003229.html For details about specific roles and what can be done by which role you can have a look at: webadmin - Configure in top right corner - Roles side tab - pick a specific role - Edit button So is this the expected behavior? I don't quite understand what userbasedtemplatevm is used for. I noticed that making template C public have the effect of assign userbasedtemplatevm to everyone, but that seems not enough to let everyone use it. My engine version is 3.3.4. Re: [ovirt-users] difference between thin/depentend and clone/dependent vm virtual machine
hi, thanks for reply I am investigating what is and how thin virtualization works Do you know if HADOOP is indicated to work under thin environment ? On Hadoop I will put large workloads and this thin virtualization utilizes more resources than exists (shareable environment) that is, if I have a real physical necessity of 500gb for each hadoop host and my Thin Virtualization has 2TB on NFS, I can have only 4 virtual machines (500GB each), or less. For this case I believe clone virtual machine is the right choice. But in my environment it takes 1h30m to build one cloned virtual machine. Am I correct ?
