[ovirt-users] QEMU hangup with SPICE console

2014-05-22 Thread Markus Stockhausen
Hello,

our hypervisor nodes are running on FC19. virt-preview repos is activated.
Windows VMs are using SPICE protocol.

From time to time we see hangups of the windows machines. QEMU
has 100% CPU and a perf report gives the following output:

Samples: 70K of event 'cycles', Event count (approx.): 49527366887

 51,76% qemu-system-x86 libspice-server.so.1.8.0 [.] 0x0005a6e8
 41,15% qemu-system-x86 [vdso][.] 0x0701
  2,09% qemu-system-x86 libc-2.17.so [.] clock_gettime
  1,10% qemu-system-x86 libspice-server.so.1.8.0 [.] pthread_self@plt
  0,60% qemu-system-x86 libpthread-2.17.so[.] pthread_self
  0,53% qemu-system-x86 libspice-server.so.1.8.0 [.] clock_gettime@plt
  0,27% qemu-system-x86 qemu-system-x86_64[.] 0x001d6238
...

No SPICE client is connected to the VM.
Any idea how to isolate the error better?

Markus

that host emulated is not the good one. I updated all of them to 6.5 with or

cluster compatibility for 3.4 but I can't rolling back to 3.3 compatibility
(tells me it can't decrease) What can I do now? Fortunately I saved the
initial 3.2 webadmin image so that I can revert back to my to my 3.2
 functionnal webadmin.
Is there such reported issue like mine?

Imho your assumptions are wrong, but _I_ also may be wrong
so please correct me, if you can.

AFAIK:
first:
A Datacenter without a master storage domain can't
become operational.

second: for hosted engine, the only supported setup type
is on an nfs master storage domain?

So I think you really need the nfs.

Sorry if I'm wrong, I didn't install this setup yet, my
knowledge is purely based of reading the wiki and the ML
so there might be some errors in my statements, maybe some
dev could correct me.

 misunderstanding.

I believe the first thing to look at is why the ISO domain is unattached
to my Default Datacenter, is that correct? Then my Datacenter should

I can manually mount the ISO_DOMAIN directory on both my host and my

- that's correct, first you need to attach master storage (which must be
differetn from what you used for hosted engine setup) and then the data
center will become operational and you can attach iso domain.

- you got it right, I think the confusing part here is the fact that you

There´s your problem. You should always make sure that your hosts are at
the same level of functionality as the engine. Breakage like this isn´t
nice, but you should have paid more close attention to the upgrade
process.

Having a gazillion different release packages floating around isn´t
helping, and installing them leaves .repo files behind that can mess
it all up, but that´s the way it is. That particular issue was just
about to annoy me enough to bug report, but then I noticed that it

A little blurry there, but you say that Engine is now 3.4.0? How about
making sure to add the newest repo for 3.4.1 in both Engine and Hosts?
http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.4.1_release_notes

And take extra care of any old repo's you may have and which of them
really are enabled. Then yum upgrade the hosts, restart vdsmd and
see if it makes any difference?

[ovirt-users] oVirt China User Group?

2014-05-22 Thread 适兕
Hello,

I'm writing to the list in reference to helping setting up a user group in
China.

As the oVirt community develops rapidly, there is a growing number of users
from China who have deployed oVirt, even in their production environment.
However, there is hardly voice/feedback from these users.

For better spreading oVirt in China, and to help more Chinese users get
into touch with the whole oVirt community, I am going to help setting up a
oVirt user group in China.

Things that the user group might help:
  0. translating articles, discussions, case studies on the oVirt website
  1. organizing online(irc, mailing list) and offline discussions about
oVirt
  2. volunteering in test week
  3. bug fixing
  4. developing features related to localization

By the way, when translating articles, should we setup a new individual
website or just do the l10n work on http://www.ovirt.org? If the former,
should we keep the look and feel the same with the oVirt website?

actually, upgrading the hosts should always be ok, even if to a newer

Hi 适兕,
I'm happy to see there's a growing interest in China.
In the past I know there were some technical connectivity issues
using ovirt.org site. If there are no issues then ovirt.org is a good
place for all ovirt related content. There shouldn't be an issue
on having some content translated and wiki pages in Chinese.

We also have a youku account for ovirt which we can upload videos
in Chinese for you (but you will need to provide the video)-
http://i.youku.com/theovirt

Let us know how you wish to proceed and what kind of asisstance
is needed.

Subject: [ovirt-users] emulated machine error

Hello
I was used tout run ovirt 3.2.2 installed from the dreyou repo and
it has
worked like a charm until now. I succeeded to upgrade to 3.3.5
official
repository but I didn't pay attention with the host vdsm upgrade
and I

installed 4.14. So the 3.3.5 web engine complained that it wasn't the
appropriated vdsm. Then I decided to upgrade engine to 3.4.0 el6
bit this
time none of my 6 hosts get successfully activated and the error
message is
that host emulated is not the good one. I updated all of them to
6.5 with or
without the official qemu it is the same. I remember I changed the
3.3
cluster compatibility for 3.4 but I can't rolling back to 3.3
compatibility
(tells me it can't decrease) What can I do now? Fortunately I
saved the

initial 3.2 webadmin image so that I can revert back to my to my 3.2
functionnal webadmin.
Is there such reported issue like mine?
Thank you for your help.

what is the value of emulatedMachines when you run [1] on your vdsm

emulatedMachines = ['rhel6.4.0',
'pc',
'rhel6.3.0',
'rhel6.2.0',
'rhel6.1.0',
'rhel6.0.0',
'rhel5.5.0',
'rhel5.4.4',
'rhel5.4.0']
what does the webadmin show under 'Emulated Machine:' when you
select the cluster? (you can see it in the General sub-tab below)

this is what is curious, the value is also rhel6.4.0

[ovirt-users] Cannot find guest domain /var/tmp/console-9.rdp

2014-05-22 Thread Bob Doolittle

Hi,

I have a newly-imported VM in a new Self-Hosted deployment.

In my old configuration, I used to get a console.vv file upon powering
up the VM, and virt-viewer could open it w/o issues.

Now, I am getting a console.rdp file, and neither virt-viewer nor
remote-viewer seem happy with it. virt-viewer gives me:

Cannot find guest domain /var/tmp/console-9.rdp

I am simply using the oVirt web ui to try to launch the console (e.g. MIME).

Does anyone know what could cause this?

I believe I now am using websocket-proxy for the first time (default
hosted-engine configuration). Could that be causing issues?

In my web searching I found a mention about opening up port 3128, so I
did that on desktop, engine, and host, but it had no effect.

Thanks,
   Bob

installed spice debuginfo and got more details. Reason seems to be
this bug:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/spice/spice/commit/?id=4019a8801d7a67035749562c0c1f403c24f36b0b

As the CPU consumption is quite nasty I advise anyone who gets similar issues
on FC19 nodes to jump onto FC20. spice-server 0.12.5 including the bugfix has
been pushed to the testing repos and should be available the next weeks.

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot find guest domain /var/tmp/console-9.rdp

2014-05-22 Thread Bob Doolittle
Looking at my console.rdp file (attached), it does not appear to have
valid content. Nowhere does it specify an IP address or valid hostname
to connect to so I don't see how it could possibly work. It has:

full address:s:W2k8-build
but that is simply the name I assigned to the VM in the oVirt admin GUI,
not an actual hostname. The address is assigned via DHCP so no hostname
would work anyway. Since I can't get a console I can't determine what
that address is, either :) (no guest agent running).

I only get a console.rdp file for my Windows 2008 VM. For my
newly-imported Fedora 20 VM I get a console.vv which works fine.

Any clues? Why console.rdp instead of console.vv, and how is that
supposed to be used to connect to the VM?

Note console for both VMs are configured as Spice.

Thanks,
Bob

Look at your console options. Its a windows vm and it seems console defaults to
rdp. You'll need a rdp viewer, rdesktop, or switch to spice or vnc

[ovirt-users] help, manager hard drive died (3.3.4)

So the ovirt manager hard disk died, 3.3.4 version, i can't get it to spin

What is the best procedure for restoring my ovirt setup? I've not been able

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot find guest domain /var/tmp/console-9.rdp

2014-05-22 Thread Bob Doolittle
Sorry for all the noise, but this is resolved and I wanted to share for
the record.

Although the console options for the VM do not provide any selection
here, if you right-click on the VM there is a menu item for Console
Options.
This had Remote Desktop selected. I was able to change it to SPICE in
that menu (but not the VM edit menu, which already stated SPICE).

It seems we have some issues in 3.4.1-1:

- some dueling menu options (the options in VM edit/Show Advanced
Options/Console/Protocol are silently overridden by the options in
right-click VM/Console Options)

- the overriding menu is pretty well hidden (only available via
right-click VM)

- the default behavior now requires a change in the 'hidden' menu unless
you pre-configured your Windows machine to allow Remote Desktop access
(you can't use RDP with Windows by default, yet the default oVirt
console protocol after import is RDP)

- the console.rdp file generated does not have sufficient information to
complete an RDP connection (no valid hostname/address to connect to)

Thanks,
Bob

One thing, if all else fails, is to convert your Export Domain to a Data
Domain with a few edits to the metadata.

Then install a fresh engine and import your old VMs.

Personally, I'd install the same version as you had previously, then
make sure you can attach your new Export domain (old Data domain), then
upgrade.

Some guides for conversion are in this thread:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2012-October/010258.html
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2012-November/010273.html

Note that's from a while ago. I am not sure it still works exactly the
same. Make sure to backup your metadata file first.

I did something a bit similar earlier today, by editing the metadata on
an Export domain to remove information about the previously-attached
Data Center.

Thanks Bob,

I had already gone through this path once early in my ovirt lifetime and
didn't get it working, I was able to make it happen this time. Thanks.
I was hoping for some other method, but this will work, it's going to be
slow-going to get everything online this way since we have to re-import
everything which essentially copies it all.
And with only 1 export domain allowed at a time, and 3 nfs machines, i'm
going to have to do them in sequence.. urgghhh

able to import the data store, only export and iso in the past.

  Thanks in advance,
 David

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt China User Group?

Great! I have some suggestions.

1. If it is possible, we'd better rent a (virtual/cloud) server inside
China. Sometimes it's very slow to access ovirt.org. Maybe we can also
have a sub-domain name such as cnuser.ovirt.org, and make the outlook of
cnuser the same as oVirt main site.

2. Considering the content, we can start by translating primary pages
and slides in ovirt.org. I think in China most of the technical people
are able to read English, so it is not necessary to translate all the
pages. We shall then provide new content that is different from the
oVirt main site. For example, successful customer stories, technical
experience sharing, and all the things you mentioned in the mail.
