 Today we have:
 Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1127460 storage POSTVM abnormal stop after LV refreshing
 when using thin
 provisioning on block storage

Basically this is an issue with systemd, not with ovirt. However we have a
 workaround
that we can consume in the short term.

 Patch for RHEL7: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/33492

We believe that we can get the real fix for the underlying component for
 Fedora quickly.
If not, we have a patch ready for enabling the workaround on Fedora.

 Patch for Fedora: http://http://gerrit.ovirt.org/33555

Just to be sure, what happens if the workaround is in place and the fix on
systemd is provided?
If everything still continue to work, please merge both patches on 3.5 and move
the bug to modified so we can try to start composing RC4 as soon as
the following is closed too:

1147971 storage NEW Snapshot locked after successful live
 storage migration

This is an ifra issue, handled by Ravi.

 ETA?

 Dan?

I've seen it has been moved to POST and infra. Can we get it verified and moved
to modified in a couple of hours?

The proposed VDSM patch should work, but it does not resolve the situation
properly wrt selinux.
A proper fix should be provided to the underlying layers (see BZ 1147923 for EL
and BZ 1147910 for Fedora).
I'd like to hear more voices here, but IMHO, not supporting enabled selinux
envs on EL7/F20 is a no-go for GA.

[ovirt-users] API -- Do I need to use templates? Can I change network for the nic?

2014-10-01 Thread Morgan McLean
Hi,

Trying to remotely spawn a large amount of VM's. It would appear I can only
use templates...which would have a NIC stuck to one network vlan. It
doesn't appear that I can change that vlan remotely.

Is there any easy way I can get this done?

Thanks,
Morgan

Re: [ovirt-users] API -- Do I need to use templates? Can I change network for the nic?

2014-10-01 Thread Lior Vernia
Hi Morgan,

I'm not sure if you want all VMs to use the same network or not. If you
do, the best way would be to create a template with one interface, and
the relevant network (profile) attached.

If you want certain VMs to be connected to other networks, once you
create the VM you can send a PUT request on /api/vms/{id}/nics/{id}/ and
update it with the relevant network (profile).

Hope this helps! Let us know please :)
Yours, Lior.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Its mentioned in the engine-backup --help dialog. But maybe we should
add it to the http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt-engine-backup page, too?

[ovirt-users] ISO_DOMAIN by NFS behavior (if NFS is unavailable)

2014-10-01 Thread ml ml
Hello List,

i have just tried to backup and replace my ovirt-engine.

My ovir-engine also provides the NFS share for the ISO Images.

However, if i take that nfs share away my ovirt-nodes and cluster
seems to fall apart.

I get those typical NFS stale file handle symthoms.

I can not umount or remount the NFS dirs anymore.

Any idea how i can fix this or better: protect myself from such an NFS failure?

Thanks,

 Dan,

I just reply to the list since I do not want to clutter BZ:

While migrating VMs is easy (and the sampling is already running),
 can
someone tell me the correct polling port to block with iptables?

 Thanks,
 Hi Daniel,

there is indeed a memory profiling patch under discussion:
 http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/32019/

but for your case we'll need a backport to 3.4.x and clearer install
 instructions,
which I'll prepare as soon as possible.
I updated the BZ (and are now blocking 54321/tcp on one of my hosts).
and verified it is not reachable. As general info: This system I am
using is my LAB / Test / eval setup for a final deployment for ovirt
(then 3.5) in production; so it will go away some time in the future
 (a
few weeks / months). If I am the only one experiencing this problem
 then
you might be better of allocating resources elsewhere ;)
 Thanks for your understanding :)

Unfortunately it is true that developer resources aren't so abundant,
but it is also true that memleaks should never be discarded easily and
 without
due investigation, considering the nature and the role of VDSM.

So, I'm all in for further investigation regarding this issue.

As for your question: if I understood correctly what you are asking
(still catching up the thread), if you are trying to rule out the
 stats
 polling
made by Engine to this bad leak, one simple way to test is just to
 shutdown
 Engine,
and let VDSMs run unguarded on hypervisors. You'll be able to
 command
 these
VDSMs using vdsClient or restarting Engine.
As I said in my BZ comment this is not an option right now, but if
understand the matter correctly IPTABLES reject should ultimately do
 the
 same?
Definitely yes! Just do whatever it is more convenient for you.

As you might have already seen in the BZ comment the leak stopped after
blocking the port. Though this is clearly no permanent option - please
 let
me know if I can be of any more assistance!
The immediate suspect in this situation is M2Crypto. Could you verify
that by re-opening the firewall and setting ssl=False in vdsm.conf?

You should disable ssl on Engine side and restart both Engine and Vdsm
(too bad I do not recall how that's done on Engine: Piotr, can you
 help?).

In vdc_options table there is option EncryptHostCommunication.
Please confirm the following procedure is correct:

 1. Change Postgres table value:
 # sudo -u postgres psql -U postgres engine -c update vdc_options set
 option_value = 'false' where option_name = 'EncryptHostCommunication';
 engine=# SELECT * from vdc_options where
 option_name='EncryptHostCommunication';
  option_id | option_name| option_value | version
 ---+--+--+-
335 | EncryptHostCommunication | false| general
 (1 row)

 2. Restart engine
 3. On the hosts;
 grep ssl /etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf
 #ssl = true
 ssl = false

 4. restart VDSM

I assume I have to set 'ssl = false' this on on all hosts?
Please to set it to false and restart the engine.

I believe that you need to update a bit more on vdsm side.
 Please follow [1] section Configure

[ovirt-users] Falsely detected network device status

2014-10-01 Thread Lewis Shobbrook
Hi All,

I've encountered a network device that is being falsely detected as down.
On adding a new network to a 3.4 hosted engine, one of the two hosts is
displaying a component interface as down with the webadmin console.
Ethtool confirms the link status as up and connectivity through the
corresponding interfaces of the network has been proven.
Shortly after adding the network I noted that the node with the falsely
detected iface status, was set Non-Operational.
All running VM's evacuated.

The engine.log showing...
INFO [org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]

Non-Operational state because interfaces 'eth1' are down but are needed by
networks 'EVD_DMZ' in the current cluster

2 other interfaces for ovirtmgmt and another VM network on this same host have
long functioned perfectly well.

When assigning the network to the interface I see the following in messages...

Hello,

the LDAP_Quick_Start guid from http://www.ovirt.org/LDAP_Quick_Start

i get this error at step 3.):

Re: [ovirt-users] ISO_DOMAIN by NFS behavior (if NFS is unavailable)

2014-10-01 Thread Groten, Ryan
I had the same challenge and ended up taking the service off my hosted-engine
and putting it elsewhere as a workaround.
But if I remember right you can still set maintenance mode when the
hosted-engine is down, just can't run vm-status?

Hello Michael,

this cant be the answer. Maybe NFS is the wrong tool for the wrong purpose in
this case then.

I am talking about disaster recovery, but you only have soft failures in mind.

do it before you turn of your engine and leave it detached, because

unfortunatelly this does not help if my ovirt-engine dies over sudden.

If i turn of my ovirt-engine the NFS ISO Domain goes down and i can
not set it to maintaince mode anymore.

 Any other ideas?

it was disabled due to gaps in libvirt currently fixed.
a patch to enable it should be written for folks to test.
it should work out of the box for a patched vdsm for gluster storage

  Arman,

One of my storage domains is iSCSI using iSER. You need the following
  in vdsm.conf:

  [irs]
  iscsi_default_ifaces = iser,default

I believe the proper way to set that so it's preserved during node
  updates is the following

  # cat /etc/ovirt-host-deploy.conf.d/40-custom-vdsm-config.conf
  [environment:enforce]
  VDSM_CONFIG/irs/iscsi_default_ifaces=str:iser,default

The filename I believe can be changed, just requires .conf extension

Once VDSM is configured to use iser you can add the domain in the GUI
using the IPoIB IP address to initiate iSER.

  ovirtnode01 # iscsiadm -m session
  iser: [3] 192.168.211.245:3260,1
 iqn.2014-04.DOMAIN.vmstore1:ovirt-data_iscsi

Simple work around is login from hosts over iser.
Would be good to add a possibility to select the protocol of
   iscsi:tcp/iser/srp.

   Thanks,
   Arman

   PS
for those who was struggling with same trouble:
   1) on hosts:
   add lines in /etc/rdma/rdma.conf
   # Load iSER module
   ISER_LOAD=YES
   2) service rdma restart (or modprobe ib_iser
   3) iscsiadm -m discovery -t st -p 10.10.10.31 -I iser
   4) iscsiadm -m node --login

   5) check if disks are there

[ovirt-users] [Request for Mentors] oVirt Outreach Program for Women

2014-10-01 Thread Brian Proffitt
All:

Since my Sept. 19 request for mentors for the GNOME OPW project[1], I have had
no responses from anyone to lend an effort on mentoring potential applicants.
The application process has been opened and I know we have had at least one
potential candidate[2] interested, and I would hate to turn people away because
we did not have mentor(s) to assist them.

The application deadline for OPW is Oct. 22, but because potential applicants
are required to get involved with the community before they formally apply, it
is very important we have some mentors in place as soon as possible.

oVirt has an excellent community in place, and here's another chance to show
that off!

Peace,
Brian

oVirt Software Milestones

The journey to oVirt 3.5 continued in September, with RC2 released Sept. 12,
and RC3 (http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.5_Release_Notes) on Sept. 23. There were
also two great test days (http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.5_TestDay), where many
bugs were discovered and repaired.

and watch our 3.5 video preview series
(http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/09/a-cinematic-peek-at-ovirt-3-5/)!

Meanwhile, the 3.4 branch keeps rolling along, with the release of oVirt 3.4.4
on Sept. 24 (http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.4.4_Release_Notes).

GoVirt, a.k.a. libgovirt, is a GObject wrapper for the oVirt REST API.
libgovirt 0.3.1 was rolled out on Sept. 3
(http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-September/027142.html)!

Subject: [ovirt-announce] oVirt Newsletter: September 2014 Updates

Events are probably the big news in this month's newsletter, with oVirt
community members making presentations and booth appearances in no less than
eight shows between now and mid-November.

October 16 will see the biggest event on the oVirt community calendar: the
2014 KVM Forum oVirt Workshop in Düsseldorf, Germany
 (http://www.ovirt.org/KVM_Forum_Workshop_Oct_2014). Register for this free
event now and learn more about your favorite virtual data center management
platform as well as meet fellow oVirt community members!

Other upcoming 2014 events for oVirt include:

 * LinuxCon EU, Düsseldorf, Germany, Oct. 13-15
 (http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/linuxcon-europe)

 In the Community

oVirt is very happy to announce its participation in the GNOME Foundation's
 Outreach Program for Women
 (http://www.ovirt.org/Outreach_Program_for_Women). Learn more today!

Our community is always one of our biggest strengths, and we wanted to start
 celebrating them
 (http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/09/ovirt-community-list/). Our new
Users and Providers page does just that
 (http://www.ovirt.org/Users_and_Providers)!

This month's case study features Nimbus Concept, a Madrid consultancy that
combines oVirt and other open source tools to deliver cloud-based solutions
 to its customers (http://www.ovirt.org/Nimbus_Concept_Case_Study).

oVirt user IT Novum recently had their work highlighted in the German press
as they deliver effective solutions using oVirt
 (http://www.it-director.de/home/a/open-source-fuer-das-rz.html).

UDS Enterprise is another downstream product based on the open source oVirt
 project

 oVirt Software Milestones

The journey to oVirt 3.5 continued in September, with RC2 released Sept. 12,
 and RC3 (http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.5_Release_Notes) on Sept. 23. There
were also two great test days (http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.5_TestDay),
where many bugs were discovered and repaired.

If you want to see more of 3.5 before its final release, break out the
popcorn and watch our 3.5 video preview series
 (http://community.redhat.com/blog/2014/09/a-cinematic-peek-at-ovirt-3-5/)!

Meanwhile, the 3.4 branch keeps rolling along, with the release of oVirt
 3.4.4 on Sept. 24 (http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_3.4.4_Release_Notes).

GoVirt, a.k.a. libgovirt, is a GObject wrapper for the oVirt REST API.
libgovirt 0.3.1 was rolled out on Sept. 3
 (http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-September/027142.html)!

 Deep Dives and Technical Discussions

Robb Hamilton and Greg Sheremeta take a video tour at NCDevCon of how
Bootstrap was used to created the new PatternFly interface, which will unify
different community projects' interfaces, including oVirt 3.5 and above
 (http://textiles.online.ncsu.edu/online/Play/f962e776fb0b41968c8ff1a715a8ddef1d?catalog=f3393fc7-f068-4b21-84cd-23d1cebcd014).

Ravi Nori takes a Deep Dive into the Command Coordinator and Command Executor
frameworks in the oVirt back end (http://youtu.be/V-mEttpaGL4).

Alon Bar-Lev hosts this Google Hangout to highlight the new Authentication,
Authorization and Accounting features in the upcoming oVirt 3.5
 (http://youtu.be/aavmOAw7Fa8).

Anmol Babu examines Monitoring Gluster Deployment (UI plugin Integrated with
 Nagios Monitoring) (http://youtu.be/gvLGwFfqKOo).

Paul Heinlein ran into obstacles getting oVirt 3.3 VNC console sessions to
launch in Mac OS X, so he set to work and now has a description of the
problem and a workaround solution posted on GitHub
 (https://github.com/heinlein/ovirt-console).

Interested in Docker? The Gluster community has posted a quick how to
 containerize oVirt within Docker article
 (http://blog.gluster.org/2014/07/ovirt-docker/).

   Hi,
We were supposed to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 GA today 2014-09-29 but we
   still have 3 blockers.

   Maintainers:
   - Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot satisfy release criteria[9]
   - Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release
   - If any patch must block the GA release please raise the issue as soon as
   possible.
   - If any packages need a rebase please raise the issue as soon as
   possible.
   - Be aware that packages that doesn't need a rebase must be re-built with
final release versioning from the RC3 tag.
   - Please provide ETA for new blockers for rescheduling an RC4 and a GA
   release.

The bug tracker [1] shows 3 blockers:
   Bug IDWhiteboard Status Summary
1147085 storage POSTMemory volumes not deleted when
   removing a vm with
   snapshots
1146073 sla POSTFailing to Attach a Storage Domain
   without Disk Profiles
   to a Data Center 3.5
1127460 storage NEW VM abnormal stop after LV refreshing
   when using thin
   provisioning on block storage

  Today we have:
  Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1127460 storage POSTVM abnormal stop after LV refreshing
  when using thin
  provisioning on block storage

Basically this is an issue with systemd, not with ovirt. However we have a
 workaround
that we can consume in the short term.

 Patch for RHEL7: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/33492

We believe that we can get the real fix for the underlying component for
 Fedora quickly.
If not, we have a patch ready for enabling the workaround on Fedora.

 Patch for Fedora: http://http://gerrit.ovirt.org/33555

1147971 storage NEW Snapshot locked after successful live
  storage migration

This is an ifra issue, handled by Ravi.

  ETA?

 Dan?

We still have nasty selinux-related issues on el7, such as

1142454 sanlock not allowed to send SIGTERM or SIGKILL signals

and surprizes with el6.6 beta

1148467 Fail to start VM: libvirtError: Child quit during startup
handshake: Input/output error
1148432 vdsm fails to start if there is a virbr0 that's attached to an
interface

but I've tagged vdsm v4.16.6 for rc4. Sandro could you take a snapshot
based on it? (We still have an issue building 3.5's vdsm on Fedora for
ARM)
