What is your web browser? In my case , if i use the Chrome then the status
would be Waiting for data... forever,
but when i use Firefox then everything is ok.

by the way, please make sure that you optimizer can be connected from
ovirt-engine firstly.
e.g. if you use jboss, you need to run the following command:
./standalone.sh -b 0.0.0.0
if you have no -b option in your command line, then only localhost can access
the optimizer.

 So, a quick non-scientific poll...

Motivation: It has been suggested that adding ubuntu or debian distro
support could broaden the reach of the oVirt community.
To date, there has been some work towards this goal, but it is not
 coming to a conclusion.

 Questions that comes to mind:

 1) Is this still an issue?

Define issue. iow, define what our goal is. If it's make it possible
to easily run ovirt on debian, that's one thing, perhaps easily achieved
by your points 4-5 below. If it's have ovirt packaged inside the Debian
archive that's a considerably different issue.
I think we should aim for the latter, the former is a start.

 2) Can we afford to dilute the focus we have as it is hard enough to
stabilize the currently supported distro's? is it worth the
 potential impact?

imho yes. I agree with the other replies already posted.

 3) Would it have maintainers catering to it so it won't be left behind
 / delay development?

For Debian, generally speaking, it's up to us to support. AFAIK almost
all Debian developers are volunteers, and do whatever they find interesting
or need for their own use. So we should either try to contact existing
such developers dealing with virtualisation-related packages there and see
how interested they are in ovirt, or try to do this on our own. To get
things into the archive you do not necessarily need to be a developer
yourself, they have a system of mentors etc. for that.

For Ubuntu, if Canonical is interested, they are of course more than welcome
to help! This will obviously help also Debian, although AFAIK not necessarily
every package that is accepted to the Ubuntu archive is automatically or
easily accepted to Debian's.

 4) Why bother with host support, ovirt-node can be used?

As long as we see value in developing and supporting hosts based on
el/fedora, this value also exists for Debian-based hosts. If we decide
one day to support only ovirt-node, it's not as important what distro
it's based on.

 5) Why bother with engine support, a virtual appliance or a docker
 image could be used?

Because many users will find it a higher barrier to implement, for
various reasons.

 6) if we do it, should we focus on Ubuntu or Debian distro first?

IMO Debian, I agree with other replies already posted.

 7) if we do it, should we focus on host or engine first?

Not sure I can see a strong preference for one of them.

I'd like to add my own question, since none of the replies so far
replied to it:

8. Do we have here existing users that are interested in
this? If it worked equally well, would you (re?)install on Debian?

Because if the answer is 'No', we might be discussing this on the
wrong list, and better approach Debian lists/forums/etc.

IIRC 3.1 was (is?) in the archive. The fact that recent versions aren't, is
a different issue. oVirt is at least currently developing quite fast, and
the release processes of distributions mean that users that use only stuff
from the official archive will get older versions, which I think for oVirt
wasn't very acceptable until recently, perhaps still is - I do not think
anyone (here or elsewhere) would like to support 3.1, as recent versions
are so much better.

Even if we do not aim for inclusion in the official archive any time soon,
we can still try to make our packages as nice as possible for that - including
e.g. carefully checking the Debian policy documents and adhering to them,
try to consult experienced Debian packagers for whatever pitfalls we should
try to avoid, etc. All of this is not as important if you merely want to make
using ovirt on Debian possible or easy.

Hi,

Please check the browser's debug console for error messages. Then check the
firewall and jboss configuration on the Optimizer server.

The JBoss log on the optimizer machine will tell you whether it does some
computations (you will see score lines).
Then try manually connecting (telnet) to optimizer:8080 from your machine (the
same where the webadmin is running).

We need more data to be able to give you more specific instructions.

Re: [ovirt-users] separate ovirtmgmt from glusterfs traffic

2014-11-18 Thread Juan Pablo Lorier

Hi,

In my experience, having ovirt traffic on the same nic that gluster can
make your platafrom unstable. I was using it for large file storage and
gluster has so big traffic that ovirt got confused and started marking
hosts as unavailable because of hi latency.
I've opened an RFE over a year ago, but had no luck with the team to get
it done. In the RFE I was asking to have a way in the UI to decide which
nic to use for gluster other than the MGMT net that is the one ovirt
lets you use.
There's another way to do this and it's from outside ovirt. There you
have to unregister and re register the bricks using gluster console
commands. This way, when you register the bricks, you can specify the IP
address of the spare NIC and then the traffic will not interfere with
the mgmt.
There's a step that I don't recall much, but ovirt is going to need to
know that the bricks are no longer is the mgmt IP, maybe someone else in
the list can help with this. I can tell you that if you search the list
you'll see my posts about this and the replys of those who helped my
back then.

The way I split this is using a split-dns solutions, either with bind or

Is it possible to separate ovirtmgmt network from glusterfs traffic?
I have only one interface (ovirtmgmt) for all of services (migration,
   etc).
I just wondering I will make three VLANs for these services and use the
QoS function. But how can specify glusterfs for use an other vlan for
gluster traffic an a other one for management?

This generally sounds like a good plan, but note that QoS on the
host-level will only become available in oVirt 3.6 (it might become
available soon on master, if you're feeling lucky...).

VM-level QoS (available since 3.3) won't help you with administrative
traffic (i.e. traffic that isn't going into / coming out of the VMs
  themselves).

Also, I have more questions about this:

   - If I specify a VLAN on ovirtmgmt, then what happend on nodes? I'm
afraid the nodes will lost the connection with each other nodes.

If the switch allows this VLAN to reach all hosts, there shouldn't be a
problem; since oVirt 3.4 the VLAN tagging should propagate to all
active hosts. However, see my comment below concerning VM network.

   - Is it possible on a live system? What will happen with the mounted
   glustefs based datastores?

I'm not knowledgeable about gluster specifics, but let's see if I can
help. What's the current situation with the gluster network, is it
already VLAN-tagged? If it is and you're not moving it to another
interface on the hosts, I *think* things should be fine.

   - What does vm network mean on ovirtmgmt interface? Can I use this for
   seperate network traffic?

This means that a bridge is created for this network on hosts. If VMs
don't use this network (i.e. virtual interfaces are assigned profiles of
ovirtmgmt), you can make it non-VM (with no VLAN tagging) and have it
assigned to the same host interface as VLAN-tagged networks (I would say
this is less risky than VLAN-tagging ovirtmgmt).

   My plan is
   - vlan.101 ovirtmgmt
   - vlan 102 glusterfs
   - vlan 103 migration
   - vlan 104 display

What is the recommended procedure of this?

   Thanks in advance,

Yes, on a lower priority.

 4) Why bother with host support, ovirt-node can be used?

Yes, but for a new potential user it's probably easier, or at least more
familiar, to take a look at the project running it on a distro he well know.

 5) Why bother with engine support, a virtual appliance or a docker

As 4.

 6) if we do it, should we focus on Ubuntu or Debian distro first?

From Linux counter data ( http://linuxcounter.net/distributions.html ), Ubuntu
seams to be today most popular distribution.
I'm not really sure about the statistics value of that data cause the
statistics base is really low and it doesn't distinct desktop usage from server
one, but probably if the aim is to broader the user base it would be more
interesting to start from Ubuntu.
Maybe it would be also easier to involve somebody from Canonical.

 7) if we do it, should we focus on host or engine first?

Both, maybe focusing also on all-in-one setup which, of course is not the most
enterprise grade setup, but it could be more interesting for Ubuntu target
users.

 Thoughts?

[ovirt-users] Optaplanner Problem

2014-11-18 Thread s k
Hi,

I have modified standalone.xml and replaced 127.0.0.1 with the IP address of
the server and the connection to optimizer:8080 works correctly.

Using Chrome I get Waiting for data...

Using Firefox I get Status: Data refresh failed: undefined

I inspected the page and when I click on the tab I get the following errors:

I have no idea about Chrome, but IE used to be OK. Is the issue there as well
(meaning they finally included the security check)?

What about the server.log file? Why does it throw this error? How can I
 change the logging level?

Error? Do you mean the DEBUG message? You can configure JBoss logging in the
standalone.xml file (if you use standalone). But I am not a JBoss expert.

https://docs.jboss.org/author/display/AS71/Logging+Configuration

It should be in /usr/share/ovirt-engine-jboss-as/ somewhere if you are using
Cent OS 6. The location is different if you use Fedora or RHEL.

Error? Do you mean the DEBUG message? You can configure JBoss logging in the
standalone.xml file (if you use standalone). But I am not a JBoss expert.

It should be in /usr/share/ovirt-engine-jboss-as/ somewhere if you are using

Ah,

the IE 11 issue seems to be something else. We use Angular JS for the page and
the screenshot shows that the template fields weren't replaced by content.

I found couple of references to issues with Angular and IE 11. Are you able to
check if IE 10 is ok so we can isolate the issue?

[ovirt-users] Power Management - but no LO?

2014-11-18 Thread Daniel Helgenberger
Hello,

I am toying an idea involving using oVirt's PM capabilities (esp. the
cluster power_saving policy) in conjuration with some consumer grate
hosts for raw compute applications.

Now, these hosts do not have any lights out or BMC capabilities.
However, they could be started with WOL packets.

Is there a way how this can be done in oVirt? Shutting down hosts with
ssh and starting them with WOL?

Thanks!

Subject: [ovirt-users] Upgrade to Ovirt 3.5.0 Authentication Fails to
IPA

Hello,

I upgraded to ovirt 3.5.0 and can no longer authenticate to IPA.
Starting up ovrit-engine the extension manager fails to properly load
the service that handles Kerberos/LDAP.

This is probably a bug, can you please execute the following and paste
   result:

   # PGPASSWORD=@PASSWORD@ psql -U engine -d engine -c select * from
   vdc_options where option_name='LDAPSecurityAuthentication'

   option_id |option_name | option_value| version
  ---++---+-
 165 | LDAPSecurityAuthentication | example.org:GSSAPI | general

I replaced my domain name with 'example.org'

I thought it will be empty... and it contains valid value. Yair?

Looking through the vdc_options table I noticed that many of the LDAP*
and Ad* settings use two different spellings for the Kerberos/LDAP
domain. One in all upper case letters, EXAMPLE.ORG and one in all lower
case, example.org. (I'm guessing this is to handle either spelling of
the domain?)

I updated LDAPSecurityAuthentication and set the option_value to use
both the upper case and lower case domain name,
'EXAMPLE.ORG:GSSAPI,example.org:GSSAPI'.

select * from vdc_options where option_name =
'LDAPSecurityAuthentication';
 option_id |option_name |option_value
| version
---++-+-
   165 | LDAPSecurityAuthentication |
EXAMPLE.ORG:GSSAPI,example.org:GSSAPI | general

Using both domain names I am able to authenticate, authorize and pull
account information from the IPA server once again.

Thanks for pointing me at the right location.

Cameron

I think that the possibility to add a separate storage network is a
must. It doesn't make sense Gluster support if you can't separate
management network traffic of storage network traffic. In 3.5 you can
define management/vm/display/migration interfaces but not storage
interfaces. Why? I don't know. But I think that Gluster support is
incomplete without exclusive storage networking.

Hi!,

I have install ovirt 3.4 on centos 6.6 following this documentation

I have already completed the installation of ovirt engine inside of the vm,
when going back to hosted-engine --deploy terminal and choosing 1 the
hosted-engine
--deploy says:

(1, 2, 3)[1]: 1
[ ERROR ] Engine is still unreachable
Engine health status page is not yet reachable.
To continue make a selection from the options below:
  (1) Continue setup - engine installation is complete
  (2) Power off and restart the VM
  (3) Abort setup

what should I do? how to fix this?

[ovirt-users] Recommendations for Storage Pool sizes

2014-11-18 Thread Groten, Ryan
I've been looking around for any best practices/recommendations on how large a
storage domain can be but can't seem to find anything.

For example, right now I have a 3TB domain made up of 3 1TB luns. That domain
has about 200 thin disks created from it.

When I want to add more space, is there any reason I should not simply increase
the existing pool? Or is it better to create a new pool?

Thanks,
Ryan

Just an FYI.

In my case the balloon driver was installed and it was running. The
problem was eventually resolved by uninstalling the entire agent

[ovirt-users] Gluster access tied to one node?

2014-11-18 Thread Chris Adams
So this may be a dumb question, but here goes...

I set up a replicated Gluster volume for VM disk image storage. I
specified the path as node9:gluster1 (where node9 is one of the two
nodes with a brick). However, when I shut down node9, the VM using that
storage automatically gets paused.

I thought the replicated storage was supposed to work even if one node
was down. Is there some other way to specify the path (did I do that
wrong)?

what should I do? how to fix this?

[ovirt-users] How to Use VLAN?

2014-11-18 Thread Xie, Chao
Hi,all
Recently I test the VLAN and have some problems. I configure the
Logical network “testvlan” with “VLAN tagged” and assigned it to hosts’ NIC.
Then I create a VM using “testvlan” and found the vm can’t get IP . Does
anyone have some ideas about VLAN?
p.s. I already configure the switch port as TRUNK mode and the vlan id
is 1 (default value).

[ovirt-users] 答复: Engine is still unreachable

2014-11-18 Thread Xie, Chao
Hi, Chou
It seems your rhevm is not setup successfully. I suggest you can think
about the two possible root cause below:
 1. your /etc/hosts about host/rhevm-vm is configured correctly?
 2. your password set in hosted-engine –deploy and rhevm-setup is same ?

If those are not your problem cause, Please provide more log about it.

Re: [ovirt-users] 答复: Engine is still unreachable

2014-11-18 Thread Coffee Chou
Hi, Chao
You may make a mistake, that's not my setup :-)
But i don't think it's a problem of password. If the passwords were not
the same, it will throw an ERROR of:
[ ERROR ] Cannot automatically add the host to cluster None: HTTP Status
401
[ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Closing up': Cannot add the host to
cluster None

so, i guess, maybe Sandvik's setup is still not accessable ?

[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION NEEDED] oVirt 3.5.1 RC status - branching

2014-11-18 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We're going to start composing oVirt 3.5.1 RC on *2014-11-25 08:00 UTC* from
3.5 branch.
In order to stabilize the release a new branch ovirt-engine-3.5.1 will be
created from the same git hash used for composing the RC.

Maintainers:
- Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot allow to create VMs before *2014-11-24 15:00
UTC*
- Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release before
*2014-11-24 15:00 UTC*
- If any patch must block the RC release please raise the issue as soon as
possible.

A bug tracker [1] has been opened and shows 2 open blocker:
Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1164218 POSTglfs_set_volfile_server() method causes
segmentation fault when bad arguments are passed.
1159839 storage POSTNew FC LUNs are not detected on hypervisor
without a reboot
1162640 gluster POSTsupervdsm segfault in libgfapi while querying
volume status detail
1160846 sla NEW Can't add disk to VM without specifying disk
profile when the storage domain has more than one disk profile

The following bugs have been keyworded as Regression and not marked as blockers:

Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1162640 gluster POSTsupervdsm segfault in libgfapi while querying
volume status detail
1164215 infra NEW vdsm sos plugin doesn't work
1159314 sla NEW Error accessing ha metadata while deploying
second host
1138144 storage NEW [BLOCKED]Failed to autorecover storage domain
after unblocking connection with host
1118349 storage NEW [vdsm] Creating DataCenter 3.5 using master
domain V1 fails with InquireNotSupportedError

There are still 150 bugs [2] targeted to 3.5.1.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 123 bugs [3] targeted to
3.5.1.

Maintainers / Assignee:
- Please review bugs marked as Regression and add to blocker if they're real
regressions.
- Please add the bugs to the tracker if you think that 3.5.1 should not be
released without them fixed.
- Please update the target to 3.5.2 or later for bugs that won't be in 3.5.1:
it will ease gathering the blocking bugs for next releases.
- Please fill release notes, the page has been created here [4]

Community:
- If you're testing oVirt 3.5 nightly snapshot, please add yourself to the test
page [5]

[ovirt-users] [QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.6.0 status

2014-11-18 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,

Release criteria discussion started on 2014-10-22 and should have ended last
week as per current release process [1].
Since oVirt sync meeting wasn't held last week, it has been postponed to today
2014-11-19.

Current options are:
1) keeping the same release criteria we had for 3.5 [2]
2) review the proposed changes [3] and prepare new release criteria for 3.6

Release management for 3.6.0 has been created [4]
The key milestones for this release must be scheduled:

Key Milestones
Release criteria discussion start: 2014-10-22
Release criteria ready: 2014-11-19
Feature freeze: 60 Days before release
First Test Day: 45 days before release
Release Candidate: 30 days before release
Release: 6 months after oVirt 3.5.0 release

External Project Schedules
Fedora 21: 2014-12-09
Fedora 22: 2015-XX-XX
GlusterFS 3.7: 2015-04-29
OpenStack Kilo: 2015-04-30

Two different proposals have been made about above scheduling [5]:
1) extend the cycle to 10 months for allowing to include a large feature set
2) reduce the cycle to less than 6 months and split features over 3.6 and 3.7

Feature proposed for 3.6.0 must now be collected in the 3.6 google doc [9]
and reviewed by maintainers.

A tracker bug for 3.6.0 has been created [6] and currently shows no blockers.

There are 412 bugs [7] targeted to 3.6.0.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we have 392 bugs [8] targeted to 3.6.0.
