[ovirt-users] [OUTAGE] ovirt.org wiki outage report [07/12/14]

2014-12-07 Thread Eyal Edri
fyi,

ovirt.org wiki page was down today from 01:33:07 IST till 10:22 IST.

REASON:
===
after logging into the openshift gear, seems like there was 99.9% space taken.

RESOLUTION:
===
deleted some logs from $OPENSHIFT_MYSQL_DB_LOG_DIR, and restarted mysql using
'ctl_app restart'.
space is still not great - at 84%, so we'll need to think soon how to resolve
this.

wiki is up now and seems to working well.
infra - we should look into migrating to a new gear maybe? or extend again the
existing one.

Eyal.

Re: [ovirt-users] Newly deployed ovirt instance can not start a VM

2014-12-07 Thread Lior Vernia

On 06/12/14 01:21, Jeremy Utley wrote:
 Hello everyone!

I just finished setting up our new demo Ovirt implementation, but am
having some issues once I get to the point of starting up a VM. Every
time we try to start a VM, we get the error:

The host {hostname} did not satisfy internal filter Network because
 network(s) are missing.

This reminds me of issues with missing boot protocol for the display
network on hosts (there's a bug on improving the error message for
that). Does ovirtmgmt have a boot protocol and IP address configured on
the hosts?

This is trying to launch vm with the Cirros image from the OVirt glance
repository. This is confusing, because we only have one network defined
(the ovirtmgmt network), and each of our 4 nodes shows it attached and
 indicated as functional.

Our nodes are all CentOS 6.6 installations, with the ovirtmgmt bridge
bound to eth2. If I go to Networks/ovirtmgmt under my datacenter, and
click on the Networks tab at the top, select the ovirtmgmt network, and
Hosts tab at the bottom, it shows that ovirtmgmt network is up on all 4
nodes. Even if I tell the VM to not attach itself to any networks at
all, the machine fails to start with the same error. Have done a lot of
 google searching to no avail.

We're also worried we did not get our gluster storage network set up
right. We added the Storage Domain as type Data (Master)/GlusterFS, but
it looks like Ovirt is using Fuse rather than the new libgfapi
functionality - since we can see the gluster mounted
 /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ with fuse.glusterfs, which would
indicate we are not using the native Gluster integration. However, the
latest info I can find seems to indicate that the gluster integration
should be working in latest CentOS builds.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me! The boss wants this demo sooner
 rather than later!

Re: [ovirt-users] Local storage with self-hosted mode

Hi Jason,

Did you try to create a new local Data Center, and add a local storage domain
there?
or it have to be on the same Data Center containing the hosted engine?

Is there any way to use local storage with self-hosted mode for VMs other
than the engine? The interface does not seem to allow it. I can hack in
local storage on vdsm, but its not discovered/used by the engine (so i
assume this is because it keeps its own metadata). I tried using a posix
domain but there seems to be an expectation that the posix domain is
 accessible to all other hosts.

My use case is 2 physical servers with no shared storage options, and we need
fast I/O since the VMs are used for CI, so local storage is the ideal setup.

Re: [ovirt-users] Local storage with self-hosted mode

2014-12-07 Thread Doron Fediuck
Hi Jason,
Hosted Engine was designed to work with a shared storage since all hosts
need to share information on their status, and by that support high-availability
for this VM.

If you do not need high-availability you can use RHEV appliance to get a VM
running with the engine inside. Remember that failure of this host will kill
the engine VM as well.

Re: [ovirt-users] ksmd high cpu usage from almost a week with just one vm running

2014-12-07 Thread Doron Fediuck
Hi,
you can see all the relevant definitions in mom's ksm policy.
The trigger to run ksm is defined here:
https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/blob/master/vdsm/mom.d/03-ksm.policy#L23

You can change this setting (in each host you have) to something that
suits your load. We have the below bug opened and hopefully handle it
in one of the next versions.

We used to have bug that made ovirt-shell fail when there wasn't a tty
available (like when running from cron):

ovirt-shell cannot run in cron (/dev/tty missing)
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1119412

That was fixed in version 3.5.0.2, so make sure that you have at least
that version.

If you still have problems please share the output of the ovirt-shell
command.

2014-12-07 Thread Doron Fediuck
Hi,
First of all you need to remember this is accounting all available memory
cache included, so what you see as 22 may not be what mom is using.
Additionally some of the calculations take time for ksm, so it takes time
for everything to stabilize once you hit a peak.

Any idea why ksmd is not coming to normal CPU usage ,on a different
server ksmd was disabled and for testing when i enabled it initially
CPU usage was high but later settled down to 3% ,in that host i have 4
   VMs running.

Before turning off ksmd can any one help me find out why ksmd is
behaving like this.Initially it had 2 virtual machines, because of high
CPU utilization of this guest other is migrated to another host.

   Thanks

Hi Arman,
Are you working with ovirt node or standard CentOS?

Note that ovirt node is different as it's works like a live cd-
it runs from memory. In order to save some configurations (such
as networking) the local disk is used.

Hi,

There is a bug in the openstack-neutron-openvswitch rpm package.

It fails %post with:
error reading information on service openstack-openvswitch-agent: No such file
or directory

And if expected to fail, it does not ignore exit code.

I suggest you open a bug for openstack-neutron-openvswitch, this is a new issue.

Thx for replay.

The strange thing is that if you install terminal via package works
perfectly.

yum install openStack-neutron-openvswitch

However if through oVirt-engine, adding a new host and selecting the
provider neutron happens the reported error:

yes, the yum installation via automation is more pedantic and does not ignore

Re: [ovirt-users] Add new host with Neutron Provider

2014-12-07 Thread Eduardo Terzella
Hello,

rpm -q --scripts openstack-neutron-openvswitch-2014.1.3-4.el6.noarch
postinstall scriptlet (using /bin/sh):
if [ $1 -eq 1 ] ; then
# Initial installation
/sbin/chkconfig --add openstack-openvswitch-agent
fi
preuninstall scriptlet (using /bin/sh):
if [ $1 -eq 0 ] ; then
# Package removal, not upgrade
/sbin/service neutron-openvswitch-agent stop /dev/null 21
/sbin/chkconfig --del neutron-openvswitch-agent
fi
postuninstall scriptlet (using /bin/sh):
if [ $1 -ge 1 ] ; then
# Package upgrade, not uninstall
/sbin/service neutron-ovs-cleanup condrestart /dev/null 21 || :
/sbin/service neutron-openvswitch-agent condrestart /dev/null 21 || :
fi

from what I understand, the daemon is actually not the OpenStack-openvswitch
-agent but the neutron-openvswitch-agent.

Is there any way to fix this?

An official supported way to import existing raw disk images would be nice.

 please review:
 http://www.ovirt.org/Features/virt-v2v_Integration

I don’t think that’s what we are looking for. With this process, if I have an
X size virtual disk, I have to come up with X+2X more storage to go through
this silly import process. With ESXi, I just right click, add to inventory and
I’m off.

Right now, I’m looking at moving my AIO configuration to a new host. I’ll have
to create the new AIO host, create a new storage domain on the old disks,
create new VMs that look like the old ones, create new virtual disks, then go
rummage around the storage, figure out what’s what in these user unfriendly
UUID names, then move the old images onto the new ones.

With ESXi, I just reinstall the hypervisor, create the new VM, then right
click, add to inventory on the old disk image, and I’m done.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1049604

The concept of storage domains seems rather clumsy and limited to me.

[ovirt-users] Storage Domain Issue

2014-12-07 Thread Koen Vanoppen
Dear all,

We have updated our hypervisors with yum. This included an update ov vdsm
also. We now are with these version:
vdsm-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.x86_64
vdsm-python-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.noarch
vdsm-python-zombiereaper-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.noarch
vdsm-xmlrpc-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.noarch
vdsm-yajsonrpc-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.noarch
vdsm-jsonrpc-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.noarch
vdsm-cli-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el6.noarch

And ever since these updates we experience BIG troubles with our fibre
connections. I've already update the brocade cards to the latest version.
This seemed to help, they already came back up and saw the storage domains
(before the brocade update, they didn't even see their storage domains).
But after a day or so, one of the hypersisors began to freak out again.
Coming up and going back down... Below you can find the errors:

Re: [ovirt-users] is it possible to run ovirt node on Diskless HW?

2014-12-07 Thread Doron Fediuck
For standard centos you may see other issues.

For example, let's assume you have a single NIC (eth0).
If you boot your host and then try to add it to the engine,
the host deploy procedure will create try to create a management bridge
for the VMs using eth0. At this point your host will freeze since your
root FS will be disconnected while creating the bridge.

I've done this ~6 years ago, and it required opening the initrd to handle
the above issue, as well as adding the NIC driver and creating the bridge
at this point. So it's not a trivial task but doable with some hacking.

  Hi Arman,
Are you working with ovirt node or standard CentOS?

Note that ovirt node is different as it's works like a live cd-
it runs from memory. In order to save some configurations (such
as networking) the local disk is used.
