But now we don't get pfSense to work in oVirt. Does anybody know how to configure the networks in oVirt in order to install pfSense. In ESX we use vSwitches (and there was a detail tutorial how to do this in pfSense manual), and everything works. But in oVirt, our only options seems to be to create VLANs for WAN and LAN and attach them to a NIC. When we boot pfSense we get no IP address for the WAN interface (we tried both static and dhcp). So, what we are looking for is some kind of howtos of how to install pfSense in oVirt. You can also evaluate the installation of the Neutron virtual appliance as described here [1]. The Neutron virtual appliance is an easy way to deploy OpenStack Neutron service within an oVirt environment: you can easily use Neutron from oVirt as an external networking provider starting from a ready to use image. Neutron can manage Open vSwitch to achieve the required network topologies. [ovirt-users] Cloudspin Storage changes
I guess I should explain why I not using gluster at this time for storage. I was made aware that you should not run both gluster and virt on the same node, and I just don't have the hardware to support that. Gluster is a fine product, and when I get enough hardware to support building a gluster cluster, I will add it back into cloudspin. The sole reason I have to put gluster on the back burner is because I am the only one who pays for the power to keep this gear on, and I need to be able to keep as few servers on as possible to suite the demand. Re: [ovirt-users] New user intro some questions
Well said Jason, From my own experience here at cloudspin, I was using gluster and virt on the same nodes. It did work, but was less than optimal. As Jason said Hardware isn't free, and neither is electricity to run said hardware. I am on the SAN route right now, and time will tell if it works better, the same, or not as good I will post results. If you are the only user, and you are just having fun.. or using ovirt where I started, as a way to spin up whatever quickly, then gluster and virt will probably be just fine. -Donny D -Original Message- From: users-boun...@ovirt.org [mailto:users-boun...@ovirt.org] On Behalf Of Jason Brooks Sent: Monday, February 9, 2015 7:03 PM To: George Skorup Cc: users@ovirt.org Subject: Re: [ovirt-users] New user intro some questions - Original Message - From: George Skorup geo...@mwcomm.com To: users@ovirt.org Sent: Monday, February 9, 2015 4:29:15 PM Subject: Re: [ovirt-users] New user intro some questions Scott, I'm sure you are completely correct. I do not want to run oVirt this way. I would very much prefer a dedicated machine for the engine, dedicated KVM nodes and dedicated storage/gluster nodes, or a real SAN. But this is the you get this and make it work that I get from upper management. So I'm going to continue testing 3.5.1 this way, and when it's too much load / performance sucks, then I can say, I told you so. I was reading through the planned features for 3.6 which says storage on the virt nodes will be supported. Again, I understand this is not optimal, but if I have to tell them this needs to wait for 3.6 to be released for this configuration to be supported, then so be it. And if performance still sucks, which I don't doubt, then... I told them so. The meaning of support is important here -- support from whom? It's true that there's no gluster+virt SKU of the RHEV downstream project. All configurations of ovirt proper are self-supported, or community- supported, and what we choose to support is up to us individuals. However, gluster + virt on the same nodes does work -- even w/ management through the engine. I do use gluster on my virt nodes, but I don't manage them w/ the engine, because, afaik, there isn't a way to have gluster and virt on separate networks this way, so I just manage gluster from the gluster cli. It's true, oVirt is happiest w/ separate machines for everything, and a rock-solid san of some sort, etc., but that's not the only way, and as you point out, hardware isn't free. Jason Anyway.. I was playing around today, and I'm not sure how or why, but the engine UI now shows the gluster volume stuff.. on the combined virt + gluster nodes. Then why did it let me add the hosts as virt gluster (default option 'both') during setup if it cannot be configured as such? - Original Message - From: George Skorup geo...@mwcomm.com To: users@ovirt.org Sent: Monday, February 9, 2015 4:29:15 PM Subject: Re: [ovirt-users] New user intro some questions Scott, I'm sure you are completely correct. [ovirt-users] [GSoC] Announcing the 2015 Google Summer of Code!
Hey, oVirt Community! Though there was some question regarding oVirt's eligibility in the 2015 Google Summer of Code, it turns out that we *are* eligible to apply for the program again. Applications for potential mentoring organizations are now open and are due at 1100 PST (1900 UTC) on Feb. 20, 2015. http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2015 As with last year, we would need to come up with projects for students to work on. The projects can be different skill levels, and they can be modular. They should also be doable within eight weeks in a summer with mentor help. If you are interested in mentoring such a project, visit http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2015/02/mentoring-organization-applications-now.html for more information, then come to http://www.ovirt.org/Summer_of_Code so we can coordinate ideas prior to submitting to Google. Given the issues from last summer, it is very important that all mentors be very familiar with project deadlines. The latter two are part of bondC leading to brC with the address 192.168.25.30. The cables are connected to the other host of this two box setup. The first two NICs are part of bond0 leading to (a) ovirtmgmt with address 192.168.12.30 and (b) another VLAN for other purposes (br0.16). This does work well on linuxhost1, i.e. one can ping and surf outbound and ssh / tigervnc in via 192.168.12.30. I did name the major bridge ovirtmgmt after endless trying. Of course, linuxhost1 and the engine ovirt1 can ping each other with no difficulties whatsoever. - In the web interface of the hosted engine, however (Hosted Engine Network.pdf, page 3) the required network ovirtmgmt is initially not connected to bond0 (while it is in reality connected, as ifconfig shows). When dragging ovirtmtgt to the arrow pointing to bond0, it does not work. The error message is Bad bond name, it must begin with the prefix 'bond' followed by a number. This is easy to understand, as bond0 is a combination of bond and the number zero. Please point me to the right direction. Thanks Regards, Looks like bondC is not supported by ovirt-engine, it's requiring bond[0-9]+. Indeed, that's your problem. Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt-guest-agent issue on rhel5.5
Hi, I see now that you have reported that you're using RHEL 5.5 unfortunately I have to tell you that the absolute minimum supported RHEL5 is RHEL 5.6 which comes with the kernel 2.6.18-238 version which includes the required virtio drivers. Any prior RHEL5 kernel version won't work. Sorry. On 02/09/2015 10:32 AM, Vinzenz Feenstra wrote: On 02/09/2015 09:46 AM, John Michael Mercado wrote: Hi Vinzenz, Sorry for the late reply.
