[ovirt-users] Problems with ISCSI storagedomain
Hello everyone! I'm running oVirt 3.5, and recently had an issue with a split brain situation in the hosted engine's image. After solving that, I got the engine up an running, but something went wrong with my main storage. I have a datacenter with main storage being ISCSI, called vms-main-storage. This storagedomain is marked as inactive. The only action I can attemp to do to it is activate it. But it won't. It just fails and no reason is given in the web ui. I also tried activating it through the cli, and result is status 400, reason bad request, detail internal engine error. Strange thing is that VM's are still running with their images in this storage and they are running with no problem at all! How can I have this storagedomain again in a healthy state??? CCing Martin Polednik, the feature owner. Hello, just on the status of the feature (as it's exactly what you require - direct pci device attachment) - the host side is hopefully ~week away from being ready, the UI side will take longer though - if you wanted, you could probably run nightly and spawn the VM yourself and treat is as external VM. CCing Martin Betak, who is the one to blame for the UI :) Hi all, the frontend part has just landed in master [1]. The UI is not beatufil (yet) but it should provide you with the ability to directly attach specific devices to VM. It should be polished well enough in time for 3.6. Best regards, Martin B. [1] https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/37620/ You also need RHEL 7 (ideal support will be in 7.1) and I suggest reading the chapter on IOMMU groups, as you might need to block (detach from host) other devices than the nic in order to get it passed through. Second to that, for network interfaces mapped to a particular VM, is there a way for the VM to be able to properly detect physical link state of that interface? Right now that's a 'configurable option' inside network interface settings on the VM in the manager (ie, plugged, not plugged, and link state up /down) If I'm not mistaken, once you have direct access to the PCI device you'll be able to query for its actual state using e.g. ethtool. When you add a zone custom property to the network, you should also add something in Vdsm to handle it. This something is usually a hook script, possibly the after_network_setup one. There, you could edit the ifcfg file, and take it up again. This would be a bit cumbersome and slow. Alternatively, you can modify vdsm's ifcfg.py configurator to include this zone. [ovirt-users] simple virtual disk moving
hello, would I explicitly define interface for only disk moving ?? Move process takes the first interface from list ( VM assigned ), but any interface for moving virtuals ( explicitly defined ). eg. A quick update, the storage directory is created with root.root so vdsmd is not able to write, I managed to change the ownership to 36:36 and every thing worked fine after the directory has been created. I think this is what happens behind the scene: - check if directory exits or not. - if not creates it with 755 , root.root - sudo and mount file systems - try to write __DIRECT_IO_TEST__ fails - sudo umount - directory gets deleted Can someone confirm ? [ovirt-users] MAC spoofing for specific VMs
I'm working on some load-balancing solutions and they appear to require MAC spoofing. I did some searching and reading and as I understand it, you can disable the MAC spoofing protection through a few methods. I was wondering about the best manner to enable this for the VMs that require it and not across the board (if that is even possible). I'd like to just allow my load-balancer VMs to do what they need to, but keep the others untouched as a security mechanism. If anyone has any advice on the best method to handle this scenario, I would greatly appreciate it. It seems that this might turn into some type of feature request, though I'm not sure if this is something that has to be done at the Linux bridge level, the port level, or the VM level. Any explanations into that would also help in my education. Thanks, Chris ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Re: [ovirt-users] overt node el6 to el7 upgrade
Hi Chuck, I also have not upgraded my hosts from el6 to el7 but I am about to do it soon. IMHO it is as simple as for every el6 host 1) move one el6 host to maintenance (to migrate all guests out of it) 2) remove that host from manager 3) reinstall this host with el7 4) add this new host in manager 5) migrate guests to el7 host be careful, you can (live)migrate guests from el6 to el7 but not the other way! Now reboot it result is that when you give ifconfig , eth0 is not displayed and ovirtmgmt do not have IP address This stage solved by giving ifconfig eth0 up and restarting the network, it will give ovirtmgmt an IP now So you have to do this on every reboot? Yes on every reboot I have to do it I tested it using different installation, with DHCP or manual configuration for eth0 , in both the case the same experience Sounds a bit like [1]. Adding Petr, this bug's owner. Can you please check/post relevant conf/log files (ifcfg*, vdsm/system logs etc)? [1] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1154399 I don't think that the bug is related, as Joseph's case lacks any bond. Network should have been restored by Vdsm on its start up. However, in ovirt-3.5.0 there were cases where this has failed. Furthermore, we still have 1203422 vdsm should restore networks much earlier, to let net-dependent services start that is still on our TODO list. To understand precisely what happens on your host, we'd need your vdsm version, and as Didi asked - your {super,}vdsm.log and /var/log/message. However, to avoid the need of re-solving a solved bug, verify that you use vdsm-4.16.14 or later. ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users
Re: [ovirt-users] Gluster command [UNKNOWN] failed on server

Any more ideas? I just had the same problem. My unknown error indeed to the fact that glusterd / glusterfsd were not running. After starting them it turned out the host setup did not automatically add the iptables rules for gluster. I added to iptables: # gluster -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 24007:24011 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 38465:38485 -j ACCEPT Afterwards 'gluster peer status' worked and my host was operational again. Hello, to make this short - i need to pass ssh options to get the connection to ilo2 working (MACs=hmac-sha1) [1]. How can this be done? I think the 'options' field is clearly for something else?
