I have 3.5.1 all-in-one on fedora 20. I arrived at this level through
upgrades but I think it should work.
Did you try and find any errors?

 Hi Vadim,

could you reproduce my issue with your system ? Do you have any advice on
getting more performance with Win2012 ?

 Thank you,

Hi Sven,
Sorry for the delay in my response.

I got pretty much mixed results compering WS2008R2 vs WS2012R2
running on RHEL6.5, as well as WS2012R2 running on RHEL6.5 vs
WS2012R2 on top of RHEL7.0.

As you can see, no matter what, on my setup WS2012R2 always performs
better than WS2008R2. However, read performance is really poor for
WS2012R2 running on top of RHEL 6.5 host. I'm still running some tests
to get better understanding of this issue.

Best regards,
Vadim.

 earlier versions did?

It's called allinone:

cannot seem to find much on it other than using a live cd which is not

The livecd also uses allinone, but includes some customizations, and is
not intended to be installed from.

what i am wanting, trying to install on top of centos 6.6 minimal install.

Should work, please report if you get into problems. Thanks!

Solved:

in ovirt-3.5-dependencies.repo in section [ovirt-3.5-epel] there is a
list of packages included. In this list userspace-rcu is missing.

Adding this package to the list I solved the problem.

[ovirt-users] Gluster and Export Storage

2015-05-19 Thread m...@ohnewald.net

Hello List,

i have a GlusterFS Data (Master) Storage and a NFS Export Storage.

Now my NFS Export Storage is broken. Does this also put my GlusterFS
Data Storage into Unknown status?

I think my GlusterFS Storage is totally fine, but it wont come up. :-(

° No Split Brain
° Peers are there
° everything is online

Its related to this:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2015-May/032889.html

It would be cool to get my GlusterFS Up and Running again in order to
migrate the vms onto one host and then reboot my empty one.

Here is some more gluster info: http://fpaste.org/223283/03230114/

Any ideas? Does the NFS Export Problem really block my GlusterData Domain?!

Thanks,
Mario

I've created negative hard enforcing affinity groups with multiple servers in

Some of them are on the same Hyper-visor but the aren't migrating to other

Do I need to trigger a scheduler?

Hi Stein,
Currently we're not enforcing new affinity rules on running VMs.
If you restart the VM or migrate it, affinity rules will apply.

In 3.6.0 we're planning to have active enforcement of new / modified
rules on running VMs.

 Hi Andrea,

I guessed I missed those logs, I found it now, thanks.

I do see the disk creation in the log from 20150501, I can also see
that the Storage Domain hertz-dstore2 has 0 GB of free space at the

hertz-dstore2 domain has 0 GB of free space

though, I don't see any indication of the removed disks from the engine.
I have also noticed a gap from the first log which finished at
 2015-05-01
03:30:05 and the other log which starts at 2015-05-04 03:22:19,879.

Did you try to register the disk as described in the wiki?

 Hi,

I've created a user in AD that should only be able to power off/on a
 specific VM in oVirt.

I've granted this user UserRole permission on this specific VM.

If I log into the user portal with these credentials I can see the VM
 and power it off/on.

When I use the fence_rhevm agent it fails to find the correct plug. I
fixed this by adding the Filter: true header to the fence_rhevm
script. When running manually, fence_rhevm can show me the status of the
plug and can power it on/off.

When I try to integrate this into a pacemaker cluster (on Debian 7)
using the fence_rhevm resource agent it reboots the VM on every monitor
 action.

Has anyone succeeded in using fence_rhevm with oVirt on pacemaker 1.1?
Are there any additional oVirt permissions the user needs to make this
work? I don't want to make this fence user an admin for my entire ovirt
 datacenter.

 The stonith primitive is configured:

some of the packages are under version locking. In order to upgrade the
remaining rpms, you need to run engine-setup.
It will take care of the update.

Hi Andrea,

I'm using postman chrome-extension to execute my REST requests.

For firefox the rest-client add-on you can use is
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/restclient/

Juan, do we have a wiki for step by step instructions of REST

Regards,
Maor

  Hi Maor,

  1) disk creation: ok
  2) no free space at the moment of creation: this is very strange! Are
you sure? I assure you the disk was working, exported to VM which
formatted and wrote data on it
  3) no disk removal mention: this is the very issue I'm facing. In fact
disk disappeared with no notification, no logs, nothing. I'm
forwarding you full set of engine.log separately. If you need
vdsm.logs just tell me from which server you need it as I have several
  cluster.
  4) I have not yet tried to register using the procedure you provided
  me earlier. I'll try tomorrow.

  Thanks

  Hi Andrea,

I guessed I missed those logs, I found it now, thanks.

I do see the disk creation in the log from 20150501, I can also see
that the Storage Domain hertz-dstore2 has 0 GB of free space at the
  moment of
  creation:

hertz-dstore2 domain has 0 GB of free space

though, I don't see any indication of the removed disks from the engine.
I have also noticed a gap from the first log which finished at
  2015-05-01
03:30:05 and the other log which starts at 2015-05-04 03:22:19,879.

Did you try to register the disk as described in the wiki?

Re: [ovirt-users] Backup through export and clone

2015-05-19 Thread Soeren Malchow
One small addition: if someone has an idea how to keep the load down even when
clone within the gluster storage domain, any suggestions are welcome and we
would test that

Subject: [ovirt-users] Backup through export and clone

Dear all,

I am no python developer (basically no developer at all) but i struggled with
the backup for a while but finally i have a script almost OK for the backup.

Due to the fact that the “snapshot - export” feature is coming as it seems in
3.6 we still need to clone and then export.

This script is threaded to do backups of 3 Vms concurrently, however, in our
setup ( compute server with 3 separate gluster machines) parallel backups of 3
VMS create very heavy load on the gluster storage servers, and i would like to
do the “clone snapshot” to a separate intermediate storage already, can anybody
help me with that ? (somewhere around line 70)
The cloning can hopefully go away in September with 3.6 but until then we still
need that.

Any other improvements are more than welcome – please keep in mind i am not a
developer and I only tried my very best to write a decent script.

Also: do we have a place (git repo or so) where we can put this script for
everybody ?

I am pretty sure there is more than one person out there looking for something
like that (at least i hope :-) )

Soeren

[ovirt-users] oVirt Instability with Dell Compellent via iSCSI/Multipath

2015-05-19 Thread Chris Jones - BookIt . com Systems Administrator

Engine: oVirt Engine Version: 3.5.2-1.el7.centos
Nodes: oVirt Node - 3.5 - 0.999.201504280931.el7.centos
Remote storage: Dell Compellent SC8000
Storage setup: 2 nics connected to the Compellent. Several domains
backed by LUNs. Several VM disk using direct LUN.

Networking: Dell 10 Gb/s switches

I've been struggling with oVirt completely falling apart due to storage
related issues. By falling apart I mean most to all of the nodes
suddenly losing contact with the storage domains. This results in an
endless loop of the VMs on the failed nodes trying to be migrated and
remigrated as the nodes flap between response and unresponsive. During
these times, engine.log looks like this.

My troubleshooting steps so far:

1. Tailing engine.log for in problem and recovered from problem
2. Shutting down all the VMs.
3. Shutting down all but one node.
4. Bringing up one node at a time to see what the log reports.

When only one node is active everything is fine. When a second node
comes up, I begin to see the log output as shown above. I've been
struggling with this for over a month. I'm sure others have used oVirt
with a Compellent and encountered (and worked around) similar problems.
I'm looking for some help in figuring out if it's oVirt or something
that I'm doing wrong.

We're close to giving up on oVirt completely because of this.

P.S.

I've tested via bare metal and Proxmox with the Compellent. Not at the
same scale but it seems to work fine there.

[ovirt-users] Backup through export and clone

2015-05-19 Thread Soeren Malchow

Regards
Soeren

I've been struggling with oVirt completely falling apart due to storage

suddenly losing contact with the storage domains. This results in an
endless loop of the VMs on the failed nodes trying to be migrated and
remigrated as the nodes flap between response and unresponsive. During

some of the packages are under version locking. In order to upgrade the
remaining rpms, you need to run engine-setup.
It will take care of the update.

The Haswell cpu had a processor feature (hle, TSX-NI) that turned out to
be flaky and Intel disabled this feature with a microcode update.

The cpu's with the updated microcode no longer have the 'hle' feature in
/proc/cpuinfo. oVirt/libvirt does not see the cpu as Haswell as the
required feature is missing.

Upstream libvirt has introduced Haswell-noTSX variants and oVirt will
probably get a new CPU type to match in a future release.

For now I've configured the CPU model as SandyBridge on my Haswell
cpu's.

I filed a bug about this in the oVirt bugzilla:
