Engine should not care how it is run (on a vm, bare metal, etc). If a host is
accessible, you can add it.

I'm not aware of current plans. We can consider this when ovirt-4.0
feature request season opens.

Until then, can you share your own use case for runnig LXC?

I'd love to see a vdsm hook that translates the qemu-kvm domxml into an
lxc one, as a first step. Anyone?

I suggest you to evaluate hosted-engine deployment where the oVirt engine
runs on VM hosted by one of the host that is managing with HA capabilities
and so on.
hosted-engine-setup will create it for you.

[ovirt-users] oVirt Node

2015-10-20 Thread Massimo Mad
Hi,
I want to migrate my hosts from centos centoes 6.x to 7.x and at the same
time move from a normal installation centos with then installed oVirt to
oVirt node.
But I noticed that there is not always the latest release of oVirt node, for
example, the latest version of oVirt node is 3.5.2 and the latest version of
oVirt is 3.5.4.
Where can I find the latest release of oVirt node, or there is a kickstart to
create the hosts.

Massimo

Never tried that with virtualbox, but it does work with nested kvm.

So either it's really a too-old cpu, or you need to find out how to enable
nested virt - in your BIOS, OS or virtualbox.

Hi,
I successfully used VirtualBox in the past to test for example Oracle RAC
inside a virtualized environment, but unfortunately Nested Virtualization
seems an "ancient" request on VirtualBox issue tracker but not satisfied
yet:

Hello,
I played around with setting in Virtualbox but
I did not succeed in attaching a Centos host that runs in Virtualbox.
EM in /var/log/ovirt-engine/host-deploy/*.log :

File
"/tmp/ovirt-Fm6ToenoKS/otopi-plugins/ovirt-host-deploy/vdsm/hardware.py",
line 68, in _validate_virtualization
_('Hardware does not support virtualization')

Could be because I have an older laptop.

The issue seams to be in node: the latest engine build
requires pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 which comes with qemu 2.3 while probably node
is still built from centos 7.1 with an older qemu.
For standard el7 host we are releasing it in the oVirt repo (
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.6-pre/rpm/el7/x86_64/qemu-kvm-ev-2.3.0-29.1.el7.x86_64.rpm
) but it seams that we didn't included it in node.

Please wait for a new build of node with that.
If you are in hurry you can also try to manually fix on your hosts:

$ remount / re-write
$ cd /tmp
$ wget all the qemu 2.3 rpm-files from
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.6-pre/rpm/el7/x86_64/ (there is no
yum on node)
$ rpm … to install/update the involved rpms

[ovirt-users] just joined the list

2015-10-20 Thread Johan Vermeulen
Hello All,

I just joined the list and I can't wait to get " acquainted" with Ovirt
I have about 150 people for who I have to provide a workstation, Internet
access and accounts, and
solve all their problems. About 40 work on laptops, the others use
disk-less thin clients and ltsp.
I hope to replace the ltps-part with Ovirt and Spice.
The users are dispersed over some 15 locations.
The entire setup runs on Centos.
So far I've been looking at the Quick Start Guide, and got as far as
setting up nfs.

One thing would help a lot in this testing fase: I've set up the
Ovirt-engine in Virtualbox.
Is it also possible to configure and attach a ( Centos) host in Virtualbox?

It seems like Proxmox have quite the install base especially due to the
ability to mix containers and "fat" VMs. AFAIK that's the only feature they
have that is ahead of oVirt. And that install base should tell us this is
indeed a feature needed and widely used.

Hi,

Also can you check the log on the host for more information ?
The VDSM log is here: /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log

Are you sure you can connect to nfs server from your host ? Check for
firewall/iptables configuration maybe...

One use case that recently came up in discussion is in a build farm.
Lightweight containers with the possibility to use AUFS and RAM disks make
for fast, isolated compiles, and they also seem great for automated
testing. Having all of that managed with the same as more long-lived,
traditional VMs is appealing. (Whether doing that in the same cluster as
those longer-lived VMs is wise is a much more context-specific question.)

I can see similar arguments for lots other typical network services where a
fully virtualized VM is unnecessary overhead (there's no need for full
isolation or different OSes), but the logical isolation is valuable.

Re: [ovirt-users] Mix local and shared storage same data center on ovirt3.6 rc?

2015-10-20 Thread Ivan Bulatovic
Hi Jurriën,

I did some tests on ovirt-3.6-snapshot and mixing local and shared
storage domains is working (with a tweak).

If you opted for Shared storage type when you created a new Data Center,
you can mix NFS/FC/iSCSI shared storage domains with POSIX Compliant FS
data domain using a local storage device (logical drive or partition,
formatted with ext4/xfs).

Only catch was, I had to chown the device node to vsdm:kvm for it to be
utilized by oVirt (eg. chown 36:36 /dev/sda2).

It doesn't work on 3.5.4 though, I've changed ownership for the device
node, had to change ownership for the ext4 fs itself residing on the
partition, and it still refused to connect stating that not all ovirt
nodes can write to it (that was expected).

I hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Ivan

A couple of related questions:
*) what can we expect from the deprecation of libvirt LXC driver in RHEL?
(CentOS would follow suit, barring an extraordinary effort from the
Virtualization SIG, akin to the Xen-on-CentOS one)
*) dreaming of a future convergence of oVirt-node and Atomic would be... well,
just dreaming? ;)

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Node

2015-10-20 Thread Patrick Russell
We had this same issue after 3.5.2 and I forget the reason why the official
build hasn’t been released, but we were pointed in the direction of using the
nightly build from Jenkins:

http://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-node_ovirt-3.5_create-iso-el7_merged/

I can vouch that ovirt-node-iso-3.5-0.999.201510062311.el7.centos is stable.

Re: [ovirt-users] integrate iSCSI and FC on the same oVirt datacenter

2015-10-20 Thread Patrick Russell
You need a NIC that supports it. We are currently using the Broadcom
Corporation BCM57840 NetXtreme II 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter. However,
multiple vendors sell a converged network adapter that should work.

You’ll also need to verify that your switch supports FCoE. This is where you’ll
connect up to your SAN fabric.

If you’re in the market for new compute blades as well, you can go the route we
did. The Dell FX2 platform has a couple of 4 port FCoE and Network switch in
the back of each chassis so you can cable up directly to the fabric without
changing your top of rack switches to FCoE. Here’s some more information:

http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/poweredge-fx/pd

Specifically the FN2210S IO Module for that chassis:

Do you use special hardware (switch or nics) for FCoE?

[ovirt-users] Ovirt Migration Fail

2015-10-20 Thread Fernando Fuentes

Team,

I moved mi server from ovirt 3.4 to 3.5 and I am having a hard time
migrating from kerberos/ldap to AAA.
I have an old fedora 389 with no ssl and kerberos and new a server with
fedora 389 with ssl but no kerberos.

My ovirt server is pointed to the old fedora 389 server and because it
has no ssl when I run the migration tool it fails because it requires
--cacert so I decided to use my new ldap server but sense it does not
has kerberos the tool fails to run.

My question is... Is there a good guide or tutorial that I can be
pointed to so I can setup AAA to use my new LDAP server?

Thanks for the help!

[ovirt-users] MacSpoof with multiple VM's -> bad/slow response on 3.5.3

2015-10-20 Thread Matt .
Hi Guys,

On a 3.5.3 updated cluster I see issues with macspoofed VM's.

The cluster is a CcentOS 7 cluster which always performed well.

I noticed that on my loadbalancers the macspoof true setting
disspeared in the engine and when I added it and rebooted some other
carp machines it was vanished at those machines.

It's a quite simple setup:

2 static nodes in a mutiple hosts cluster with carp machines on it,
per blade 1 Firewall, Pfsense, and one Loadbalancer ZEN.

The cluster ID's differ on ZEN, and the carp IP's on pfsense have a
different VHID's so I wondered if this is a known issue with the
vanished macspoof true setting I found out (so the whole virtual IP
doesn't work in that case).

Some other cluster works fine without any issue, the spoofed systems
here are on CentOS 6

This setup has run for more than a year without any issues.

I hope someone has some information if this issue is known.

Thanks Matt

(sorry for my bad typing it's kinda early/late ;))

Re: [ovirt-users] Question about the ovirt-engine-sdk-java

2015-10-20 Thread Michael Pasternak
Hi Salifou,
OK, i see now, then you have two options:
a) To extend the sdk:
1. extend java-sdk by allowing to inject custom headers in every request (not
trivial as all ovirt SDKs are auto-generated,but if its common case, you may
find yourself getting help from community/maintainers)
2. fork java-sdk customizing it for your needs
I'd recommend the former as fork will leave you with no support/maintenance
from community plus you'll haveto implement new features by your own (what will
become a moving target very quickly)
b) Proxying the sdk
You can implement dynamic proxy wrapping SDK's HttpProxy.java#execute and
intercept the context from there, but you've to stay tuned as backward
compatibility is for interface and not for SDK internals,so "potentially" you
can find your code broken in one of the following upgrades
hope it helps.

 Hi Micheal,

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately the headers are dynamic ...

Here is the story:

We implemented a custom RHEV-M AAA module for a client

calls.

The custom AAA module requires extra dynamic data in the HTTP
request (as request headers for now but request parameters
should be fine too).

Their is no problem if they go with the REST API, I am just
trying to anticipate/identify potential integration problem ...

It seems like they will have to use the REST API or modify the
java sdk ...

Thanks a lot,

Hi Salifou,
Actually java sdk is intentionally hiding transport level internals so
developers could stay in java domain,if your headers are static, easiest way
would be using reverse proxy in a middle to intercept requests,

can you tell me why do you need this?
