OVS limited support is coming out in the next build (4.0.2), it is in

At the moment, there is no ovs-dpdk integration support.

2016-07-27 Thread Peter Michael Calum
Hi Martin
I was wondering if this could be a firewall problem. We have recently
introduced new fw rules, and I have not tested fencing on the 2 hypervisors
before I switched them to ovirt 4, but there was no alarm in the old setup
before I switched. - I will investigate this further to be sure, and will
return.
Thanks for your help

Hmm, it's really strange that this is working on 3.6 and not on 4.0, I don't
see any obvious error, so we need to find out what are correct parameters for
your fencing device.
The easiest way is to execute fence_ipmilan, according to vdsm.log following
are your current options:
fence_ipmilan -a khk9dsk35-mgnt.ip.tdk.dk -l
mgntuser -p -o status
Does the above works if it's execute from

If all of above is correct and you are still not able to get power status, here

Also could you please check that fence agent options are the same as on 3.6

Testing the nfs4 patch show that we need more work.

In the meantime, can you check if using mount path with double slash
(e.g. server://path) in engine works?

Also, can you file a bug about this?

Re: [ovirt-users] Ansible oVirt storage management module

2016-07-27 Thread Groten, Ryan
Thanks for the feedback Yaniv, I’d love to see a python module for ovirt
actions. What I’ve built is simple and a bit limited to the features I needed,
so if we can implement an existing library that has all the features and is
proven to work then the automation tasks would be much simpler.
And of course, a supported Ansible module would be even better, it would
probably get more traction towards being added as an extra or core module that
way too.

If you think this would be a valuable addition to the extra modules that ship
with Ansible (at least temporarily), I’d appreciate if you comment ‘shipit’ on
the pull request to mark it for inclusion!

Thanks,

Hi Ryan,

This looks really interesting and surely is useful.
My only comment would be that I think we should start to think about some
Python module for oVirt actions.
Otherwise, every project (this, ovirt-system-tests, others) that use the ovirt
Python SDK for oVirt automation more or less re-implement the same functions.
What do you think?

Also, we are thinking about auto-generating such Ansible playbook (same way as
the SDKs are generated).
It might look less 'human', but it will always be complete and up-to-date with
all features.
Thanks,
Y.

Theoretically you could run engine-backup on the current engine VM,
redeploy from scratch on the new storage domain and before running
engine setup, inject there the backup.
Something like:
http://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/engine/migrate-to-hosted-engine/

Unfortunately we know that migrating from HE to HE is not as simple as
from physical to HE:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1240466#c21
In general the issue is that the DB backup form the old hosted-engine
VM contains a lot of references to the previous hosted-engine env and
you cannot simply remove/edit them from the engine since they are lock
so you have to manually remove them from the DB which is quite
risky/error prone.

Improving engine-backup to automatically filter hosted-engine
references is an RFE for 4.1.

In the mean time I'd suggest, if feasible, to redeploy a new
hosted-engine env and reattach there your storage domains and your
hosts.
This will imply a downtime.

interesting
features like live storage migration, live snapshots, hot plug/unplug disk are
not available.

cat /proc/mounts

This is what vdsm is using the check if a mount exists.

>>
>>
>> I am not sure of the problem, but I think it's the double slash on the

Vdsm is normalizing the mount path - when you try to mount:

 noveria.wodel.wd://vmengine

Vdsm normalize the path to:

 noveria.wodel.wd:/vmengine

And it pass this value to the mount command.

Vdsm expect that the kernel will not modify the value and return unormalized
paths.

This looks like an issue reported in the util-linux list:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/util-linux-ng/msg13078.html

According to the report, this is known issue in the kernel and unlikely to
be fixed soon.

So it seems that we do need to normalize also what the kernel returns
in /proc/mounts.

It is available in 4.0.2 as a tech-preview.
You should be aware that it may be unstable at this point, work on it is
still in progress
and we look forward for the community feedback.

[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.0.1 on FC23: problem mounting NFSv4 with fsid=0

2016-07-27 Thread wodel youchi
Hi,

I wanted to test the new version of oVirt the 4.0.1 on FC23, using HE
method and using NFSv4 for storage.

When launching the deploy command, and choosing nfsv4 and filling the mount
point, the setup exits with error : Connection to storage server failed.

In vdsm log I have this error:
Could not connect to storageServer
Traceback (most recent call last):
...
OSError: [Errno 2] Mount of `noveria.wodel.wd:/engine_vm` at
`/rhev/data-center/mnt/noveria.wodel.wd:_engine__vm` does not exist

the df -h command shows that the nfs mount was done, but the device path
contains a double slash.
noveria.wodel.wd:*//*vmengine 656G 111G 513G 18%
/rhev/data-center/mnt/noveria.wodel.wd:_vmengine

I am not sure of the problem, but I think it's the *double slash on the
nfs4 path when using fsid=0*: noveria.wodel.wd:*//*vmengine

if I use nfsv4 with fsid=0, the problem shows up.
If I don't use fsid=0 and mention the full path of the nfs mount, the
problem disappears.

Regards.

Nice that the status issue could be solved.

For adding Node, you can either add the host by gpoing to Engine and then
add the host, or you can use vdsm register on the host to register it to
Engine.

I'm not OSX user but virt-viewer works on OpenBSD
fine, so it can't be difficult to make it running.

You need libvirt working (just for 'remote'), spice-gtk,
gtk-vnc and couple of python modules.

Re: [ovirt-users] remote-viewer on OSX

2016-07-27 Thread Pavel Gashev

SpiceViewer is quite old. It just doesn't work well. Two issues:
1. It's slow. It takes the whole couple seconds to scroll text screen
by one line.
2. It tries to hide the mouse cursor in the bottom right corner. This
activates Hot Corners action.
http://thesweetsetup.com/quick-tip-enable-hot-corners-os-x/

HTML5 spice viewer doesn't work well too if you have QXL drivers
installed inside VM
https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/spice-devel/2016-January/026139.
html

The best option is VNC. See

Please try applying this patch

it would be included in ovirt-4.0.2, but we'd apreciate as wide testing

Also could you please check that fence agent options are the same as on 3.6

[ovirt-users] remote-viewer on OSX

2016-07-27 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm going to provide access to ovirt VMs to people who are using OSX
At this moment I don't have access to any OSX environment to crosscheck,
but is still that complex/intricate?
http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/virt/spice-remote-viewer-on-os-x/

Thanks,
Gianluca

[ovirt-users] Fencing errors on oVirt Engine Version: 4.0.1

2016-07-27 Thread Peter Michael Calum
Hi
I'm testing on Ovirt 4.01 and got errors when testing fencing on the hosts
I use IBM x3550M4 as host and ipmilan as fence agent.

I get this error when testing.
[Failed: Unable to obtain correct plug status or plug is not available, , ]

I also have a 3.6 setup and there it works.

Ovirt Node 4.02
oVirt Engine Version: 4.0.1.1-1.el7.centos

Is this list the correct way to report errors ?

Venlig hilsen / Kind regards
Peter Calum

Re: [ovirt-users] Some question about vdsm rpc

We use single port for both protocols. There is a code which peeks the
data stream and
decides which part of the code should handle the connection.

In config.py you can find 'management_port' option which defines which
port will be used.

In config.py we have 'xmlrpc_enable' and 'jsonrpc_enable' which
determine protocols
available during runtime. With the latest vdsm both are enabled but
keep in mind that
xmlrpc is deprecated and will be removed soon.

During host installation we attempt to connect to a host using jsonrpc first and
if it fails we we attempt to use xmlrpc. Older vdsms provide only xmlrpc so
this behavior is for backward compatibility.

There are two binding modules bindingjsonrpc.py and bindingxmlrpc.py.
Common module for both bindings is API.py

There is a time when vdsm is not able to handle requests due to recovery logic
which may take several seconds during this time we return code 99. Once the
recovery is done vdsm returns correct codes like 0.

Recovery occurs only during start of vdsm.

Can you share the logs with above failure?

ping verb was reused to detect whether vdsm is able to use jsonrpc.
This verb originally is used to make sure that any network reconfiguration
did not break connection to the engine. During the process of reconfiguration
engine call ping and vdsm based on file update time can restore old network
configuration in case of failure.

There are 2 vdsm processes running with different user permissions.

Edi, danken, this is again the malfunctioning heuristics in the client for
handling ipv6. Is there a bug on this issue ?
