[ovirt-users] intel skylake oVirt 4.0

2016-09-07 Thread Roman Nikolayevich Drovalev
Hello all!

Currently, the oVirt 4.0 not on the list of supported processors for the
cluster "Intel Skylake" !
Is it possible to add hosts to the new processor in the cluster pool or
you must wait for the update oVirt ?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Overt Networking VPN

2016-09-07 Thread System Administrator
Aloha,

I am attempting to set up an Ovirt environment across every server that I
currently manage. I have a set of servers in one location, behind a single
firewall with multiple IP's, and I have another set of servers in a second
location halfway around the world, also with their own set of IP's.
Additionally, the servers have different types of Intel CPU's, and varying
amounts of memory and storage. I also have a Fiber Optic SAN that I would like
to use as my storage.

My question is: Do I have to set up a VPN between every server that I want to
install Ovirt on in order to manage them under a single Ovirt installation? If
so, how would I gain a highly available scenario? In this case, if the server
acting as the VPN server failed, the entire Ovirt system would collapse as well
due to inability to communicate.

My goal is to combine the resources of all of my servers so that I can live
migrate VM's between them based upon workload, and also availability of
hardware. If the servers in Canada fail for instance, I want the services to
automatically migrate to my servers in Hawaii.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

I would suggest creating a non-vlan ovirtmgmt network (for management) on a
bond (that has nic1 and nic2 as slaves).
When that works out, you can add another VM network with a VLAN set on the
same bond.
On the switch you will need to define a trunk with the VM network VLANID
and a default access that corresponds to the management network.

Thanks,
Edy.

Perhaps - depends on what you wish to measure.

fdatasync is the wrong choice - it still caches (but again, I'm not sure
what you are trying to measure). You should use direct IO (oflag=direct) if
you are interested in pure IO data path performance .
Note that most applications do not:
1. Write sequentially (especially not VMs)
2. Write 1MB blocks.

Agreed. It's not easy, it's sometimes more art than science, but first of
all you need to define what you wish to benchmark exactly.
I warmly suggest you look more into real life applications rather than
synthetic benchmarks, but if you insist, I warmly recommend fio (
https://github.com/axboe/fio)

[ovirt-users] Ovirt and network cards usage

2016-09-07 Thread Osvaldo ALVAREZ POZO
Hi,

In my server I have 4 nics

I was thinking about using NIC3 and 4 for starage (ISCSI or NFS)
Two (NIC1 and 2) For management and VM traffic using VLAN.

But when I installed Ovirt, I had to use the firts NIC without Vlan. Native
vlan did not work. So at the switch the NIC1 and 2 are in mode access.

After deploying hosted-engine the ovirtmgmt network was create on first NIC. If
I want redundancy I would have to add nic 2 to ovirtmgmt .

And there is no more NICS for the VMs.

Are there a way to configure VLAn on ovirtmgmt, moving hosted-engine to a VLAN?

Any idea?

Thanks
Sincerily

BTW, only now realized that you ask for 4.0.2.2. I do not think we ever released
this version. It was tagged in gerrit, so you can build it yourself if you
really want to.

The 4.0 repos [1] contain all the 4.0 packages that were released so far.
So if you want 4.0.2 _engine_, you can simply:

yum install ovirt-engine-4.0.2.7

This will still pull in the latest available packages that do not require
exactly 4.0.2.7, such as the iso and image uploaders, host-deploy, otopi,
the setup packages, etc.

If you want the exact entire set of packages that were released when 4.0.2
was released, this is harder. You can check the files under releases/
and milestones/ in the releng-tools git/gerrit repo [2].

May I ask, why do you need exactly 4.0.2? Several important bugs were fixed
in 4.0.3. It's recommended to always install latest released version.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt hosted-engine deploy never works

2016-09-07 Thread KY LO
You can't migrate the engine to a normal host added via add host. To join the
hosted-engine pool, you need to run hosted-engine --deploy and point to the
same storage used by the engine. It will then be recognised as adding
additional host capable of hosting the engine. See Hosted Engine Howto — oVirt
Thanks.

it's my first time using ovirt
coud you explain?

Hello,
Now I have 1 hoste_engine, 1 ovirt-node and 1 cluster

Do I go to ovirt-engine and I add a node directly? or are there rpms to install
fist?

You have just to install
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release40.rpm on your next
host.Than you can go to the engine in the hosts section of that cluster and
choose New.Since 4.0 you can also choose to have your new host participating to
the hosted-engine pool from the engine itself.

thanks

one other question
do  have to add the ISCSI LUN where the hosted-engine was deployed?

No, the engine will do it automatically once the datacenter will be up.

It will be automatically imported once you add your first storage domain for
regular VMs.
The message is a bit confusing and indeed we have an open bug to change
it:https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1358313

Just run on your host hosted-engine --vm-status.

Yes, adding entropy to the host should still help.
