Lance, can you encode this requirement in openvswitch-ovn-host.rpm ?

I found the disk image for the running VM, created a symlink, and then ran
the command above. It took a while:

# time LIBGUESTFS_BACKEND=direct guestfish --ro -a fc21-64.qcow2 -i
selinux-relabel /etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts /
force:true

real114m17.757s
user114m16.476s
sys 0m6.042s

I could do it off the vmdk if you wish, but I'm sure there haven't been
many significant changes to the VM since it was imported. Besides, I
suspect it wouldn't change the outcome of the test.

Safest and easiest would be to run the command on the .vmdk file. The
command creates an overlay and works in roughly the same was as
virt-v2v itself does.

As long as you use --ro it's safe to use. However I'd suggest running
it on the source .vmdk to be as close as possible to what virt-v2v was
doing.

Let's see if this command takes a long time first. It could be the
cause is elsewhere.

The OVA has a .vmdk file inside it. I have no idea where ovirt put the
.qcow2 file. I suppose I would need to track it down through the VM GUID?

Can I run this command on the disk image of a running VM that's already
been imported? Or... better, can I run it on a .vmdk file? Or, worst
case, is there a way to convert the .vmdk to a .qcow2?

So noted. Like I said, I can supply you the ova file if you think it

Probably because containers in Windows actually run inside VMs, therefore
using nested Virtualization.

Guest is Fedora 21. Host is CentOS 7.2

Guest not have an unusual number of files. At least looking at the number
of inodes used:
Filesystem Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/vda3 2894304 164989 27293156% /

So... 165,000 files? My F23 system which imported in 2 minutes has
174,442 inodes used, albeit significantly more free:

Filesystem Inodes IUsedIFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/vda3 23080448 174442 229060061% /

Another difference is ext4 (F21) vs xfs (F23).

Yes, this is conclusive.

The guest is Fedora 21? Does it have an unusually large number of
files in the filesystem? Is the host RHEL or Fedora and which
version?

I will see if I can reproduce it.

So it looks like it took almost two hours to run the setfiles on a 4GB
filesystem. The rest of the import was only a minute or three.

I'm happy to help debug this however I can in order to fix any potential
bugs. However I admit it probably wont affect me any more -- I don't
expect to migrate many more VMs. Still, I'm happy to work towards the
common good. :)

Re: [ovirt-users] Adding Infiniband VM Network Fails

2016-11-16 Thread Clint Boggio
That is correct. The ib0 in all of the HV nodes are accessing iSCSI and NFS
over that IB link successfully.

What we are trying to do now is create a network that utilizes the second IB
port (ib1) on the cards for some of the virtual machines that live inside the
environment.

Yes, use cloud-init.
You can import the image directly as a template and then edit the template
to add nics and cloud-init configuration.
(This way you can easily setup multipile preconfigured VMs from it. You
don't have to use run-once for cloud-init).

[ovirt-users] Info on atomic images inside ovirt-image-repository

2016-11-16 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
how is it supposed I consume Atomic images in the repository in subject?
For example, I select
CentOS 7 Atomic Host Image v1609 for x86_64 (4cc949e)
import
and I have a disk
I then create a VM with OS Red Hat Atomic 7.x and attach that disk to VM
and connect network

What have I to do to setup network, users and SSH keys on it?

Run once --> Initial Run --> Select "Use Cloud Init"
or what?

Does the image correspond to the qcow2 one downloadable from
http://cloud.centos.org/centos/7/atomic/images/

or does it contain any customization already related for deploying in oVirt
itself?

Thanks,

This command is a disk defragment + shrink inside VMware. Basically, the
.vmdk was about 36G even though the system was only using about 3G.
Running this command released all that free space and then reduced the
VMDK file.

I figured the time should be proportional to disk usage, which is why I
was so surprised that it took orders of magnitude longer than other
systems with similar disk usage (and indeed, in some cases the other
systems that completed in minutes had MORE disk usage).

> Running `virt-v2v -v -x ...' and observing the output will give you a
> good idea of what precisely it was doing for those hours.

Well, as I said in my original email, it was hanging at running setfiles:

commandrvf: stdout=n stderr=y flags=0x0
commandrvf: setfiles -F -e /sysroot/dev -e /sysroot/proc -e
/sysroot/selinux -e /sysroot/sys -r /sysroot -q
/sysroot/etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts /sysroot/
Can't stat exclude path "/sysroot/selinux", No such file or directory
- ignoring.

There's no timestamp in the output or logs so it's hard to tell exactly
what happens when or how long each step takes. For example, I wouldn't
know how long the setfiles step takes unless I sit there for hours
watching to see when it completes. Is there some way to add timestamps to
each output line?

FWIW, here's the disk usage from within that VM:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda344G 4.6G 37G 12% /
devtmpfs487M 0 487M 0% /dev
tmpfs 497M 0 497M 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 497M 348K 496M 1% /run
tmpfs 497M 0 497M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
tmpfs 497M 4.0K 496M 1% /tmp
/dev/vda1 969M 130M 773M 15% /boot
tmpfs 100M 0 100M 0% /run/user/1000
tmpfs 100M 0 100M 0% /run/user/0

For the record, Fedora 23, which imported in 2 minutes, has the following
disk usage:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
devtmpfs486M 0 486M 0% /dev
tmpfs 496M 0 496M 0% /dev/shm

tmpfs 496M 0 496M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup

You will choose the 'import VMs' subtab of the storage domain and import
all the VMs.
This will include all the info on the settings. Please note that until 4.1
is out (which has a new feature to map netowrks), all VMs that have
networks that doesn't exists by the same name on the new setup will not
have network assigned.

I'm not familiar with this command. In general terms, conversions
take a time proportional to the amount of disk space in use by the
guest.

Running `virt-v2v -v -x ...' and observing the output will give you a
good idea of what precisely it was doing for those hours.

No, the filesystem had plenty of space.

It eventually did complete, after several hours. But I don't understand
why this particular VM took so long when others (with similar disk
sizes/usages/configurations) completed in only 1-2 minutes. Each VM is
effectively exactly the same (it's a build slave), so it's just the
basic installation of the particular Fedora release, the build tools,
and the build slave configuration. Beyond the underlying fedora release
version, the systems are configured exactly the same.

I migrated four similar VMs. Three of them completed almost
immediately. The last too much longer. The ONLY thing different about
the one that took longer was that I decided to pack the disk first, so I
ran:

  vmware-toolbox-cmd disk shrink /

in the VM prior to packaging it up as an OVA. All the OVA files are
relatively small and similar in size:

-rw--- 1 warlord warlord 1959553024 Nov 7 10:40 fc20-64.ova
-rw--- 1 warlord warlord 1794907648 Nov 7 12:27 fc21-64.ova
-rw--- 1 warlord warlord 2023595520 Nov 6 10:04 fc22-64.ova
-rw--- 1 warlord warlord 3381622272 Nov 5 16:18 fc23-64.ova

The FC23 and FC22 migrations took the least amount of time, even though
they were the largest.

Unfortunately, OVA is a generic term describing a container for a VM/group
of VMs definitions but it is implemented in different ways.
>From OpenVAS website it seems their OVA format is for Virtualbox >= 4.3...
correct?

You could try to export the disk file/s with VirtualBox command line tool
VBoxManage (never tried myself):
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch08.html

Or eventually follow what described in this thread, that implies to import
the OVA into a VirtualBox environment and then re-export it for oVirt with
the steps described:

[ovirt-users] Windows Server Container Support

2016-11-16 Thread Grundmann, Christian
Hi,
I tried installing Windows Server 2016 and enabling Container Support and Docker
But after enabling Docker, the VM dies.
All Network related services are timeouting when booting the Server.
If I unplug the NIC the VMs starts normally and Docker works

I tried to enable the macspoof vdsm hook but it doesn't help

Anything else I can try?

Thx Christian

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt 3.5.5 to 4.x

2016-11-16 Thread Demeter Tibor
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.

I have a short plan for the migration, but I have some question about it.
Please correct me if something wrong.

- I will install ovirt nodes to the new machines.
- I would like to use same storage, so i will make an new NFS export for the
new ovirt-engine.
- I will make hosted engine setup that will placed on the new nfs share.
- I want to come some new features , like vlans and new IP range for engine,
management, etc, so I will make these settings on the new setup
- This is the point where I will stop the whole old system. I have to stop
VM-s, disconnect storge from old cluster and I will attach to the new cluster.
- This is the point, where I'm not sure in all things. If I had attach to the
new cluster, the VM-s will show on the new ovirt-engine? What about the
settings for example, memory, cpu, etc? It will be came from storage? Or I have
to recreate these settings on every VM-s?
- Need I'm doing other things, or it will be enought to start vms in the new
cluster?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Tibor

Re: [ovirt-users] Extract snapshot from an image

Hi,
I have 3.5.

I've found the clone button, that will create a new virtual machine.
But I need the image from the storage.
Is that will make an individual image, or the parent will be the orifiginal
image file? Can I copy the cloned machine to an external HDD?

Thanks

The most likely reason for virt-v2v to hang (actually it's qemu which
is hanging) is that you've run out of disk space. Most probably in
/var/tmp but best to check all your host filesystems.

Hi Gianluca,

yes, you are right. Now second and third host can be
directly added from UI. Before adding the second and third

hyperconverged setup.

1) On Hosted engine vm run the command 'engine-config -s
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled=true'

2) Restart ovirt-engine by running the command 'service
ovirt-engine restart'

3) /Edit Cluster/>/Default/>/Enable the gluster service/.

4) Create separate storage domains for each gluster volume.
You can see that hosted_storage gets imported into the UI
automatically when one storage domain is created in the UI.

5) Add second and third host from UI.

Hope this helps

Hello,
thanks for your answer.
Basically I'm following Jason guide here for 4.0:

https://www.ovirt.org/blog/2016/08/up-and-running-with-ovirt-4-0-and-gluster-storage/

I arrived just before the second/third host deploy actions.
I verified that

1) actually seems already in place
[root@ovengine ~]# engine-config -g
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled: true version: general
[root@ovengine ~]#

3) Already done

2) Already done after step 3)

I see that in Jason guide steps 4) and 5) are reversed.
Are they interchangeable or is that using the web admin deploy
method requires that storage domains are already set up before
adding second host?

Before adding second host, it requires hosted_storage domain to be
imported into the UI. For this to happen we need to atleast add
one domain. With out creating a storage domain you can try adding
the second host and you will be given a message to add the domain
first.

Gianluca

Thanks for clarifications.
It worked smoothly; all the three hosts are now up; going to test
urther functionalities.

Fine!

In the host-deploy logs for the 3 hosts I only see for the third host
(and for the first file of the two ones generated for first host)
these kinds of warning:

you could safely ignore these messages. There are some tuned profiles
which engine tries to set on the node. If those profiles does not exist
on the node engine throws these kind of messages.

Hi Martin,

I see that hosted engine vm is down and the log you are asking for
would be present in the engine vm right. Is there a way that i can bring
this up?

Hi kasturi,

Which version of oVirt are you using?

Apologies for the late reply. I am using the latest master.

Roy, I assume it is related to 4.0 version where the import of
hosted storage domain was introduced.

Hi Roy,

I'm jumping on this thread just to ask you what you mean by hosted
storage domain, and/or where could I read more about it.

I saw nothing obvious in the 4.0.0 release notes, so just wondering...

Thank you

Hi Gianluca,

yes, you are right. Now second and third host can be directly
added from UI. Before adding the second and third host please make
sure that the following steps are done for hyperconverged setup.

1) On Hosted engine vm run the command 'engine-config -s
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled=true'

2) Restart ovirt-engine by running the command 'service
ovirt-engine restart'

3) /Edit Cluster/>/Default/>/Enable the gluster service/.

4) Create separate storage domains for each gluster volume. You
can see that hosted_storage gets imported into the UI
automatically when one storage domain is created in the UI.

5) Add second and third host from UI.

Hope this helps

Thanks
kasturi

Hello,
thanks for your answer.
Basically I'm following Jason guide here for 4.0:
https://www.ovirt.org/blog/2016/08/up-and-running-with-ovirt-4-0-and-gluster-storage/

I arrived just before the second/third host deploy actions.
I verified that

1) actually seems already in place
[root@ovengine ~]# engine-config -g AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled
AllowClusterWithVirtGlusterEnabled: true version: general
[root@ovengine ~]#

3) Already done

2) Already done after step 3)

I see that in Jason guide steps 4) and 5) are reversed.
Are they interchangeable or is that using the web admin deploy method
requires that storage domains are already set up before adding second
host?
Before adding second host, it requires hosted_storage domain to be
imported into the UI. For this to happen we need to atleast add one
domain. With out creating a storage domain you can try adding the second
host and you will be given a message to add the domain first.

Hi,

I was installing latest upstream master and i am hitting the
issue below. Can some one please let me know if this a bug ? If
yes, is this going to be fixed in the next nightly?

[WARNING] OVF does not contain a valid image description, using
default.
[ INFO ] Detecting host timezone.
Enter ssh public key for the root user that will be used
for the engine appliance (leave it empty to skip):
//root//.ssh/id_rsa.pub
[ ERROR ] The ssh key is not valid.

Here you have to directly enter the SSH public key and not the name of
a file that contains it.

simone, sas directly entered the key and he also faces the same issue.

Enter ssh public key for the root user that will be used
for the engine appliance (leave it empty to skip):
[WARNING] Skipping appliance root ssh public key
Do you want to enable ssh access for the root user (yes,
no, without-password) [yes]: yes

Re: [ovirt-users] Cannot install latest upstream master

2016-11-16 Thread Martin Perina
Hi,

could you please share log from engine-setup execution?

But I fear this is caused by [1] as we haven't done any changes in aaa-jdbc
extension for quite long time.
Sandro is it possible to remove or fix faulty slf4j package from repo [2]
as suggested in [1]?

Thanks

Martin
