[ovirt-users] missing cpu model

2017-01-18 Thread Bill Bill
Hello,

Upon adding a new hypervisor I get that the CPU is missing features, was
originally net to haswell no tsx. The CPU is E5-2620 v3. Tried regular haswell
too with the same error.

Board is X10DRT-H Supermicro – this one doesn’t work.

One working board is same processors, with board X10DRL-I

All processors, network cards and memory are the same.

[ovirt-users] Migrate hosted engine to a new storage domain

2017-01-18 Thread Logan Kuhn
Hi

We are planning on moving to a different storage solution and I'm curious,
is there a way to migrate the hosted engine's storage domain to the new
solution? It's NFS currently and can be NFS on the new storage as well.

>From what I've read it looks like it should be possible to

   1. Take a full backup of the engine VM
   2. Deploy another hosted engine VM with hosted-engine --deploy
   3. Install/configure CentOS 7.3
   4. Deploy new engine with engine-setup
   5. Then restore the backup into the new VM.

What I'm not sure of is if that backup will contain enough of it's data to
restore to a completely different storage domain?

Also, the engine database is on a remote server, the data warehouse service
and all other aspects of the hosted engine reside on the VM.

Thanks,
Logan

[ovirt-users] oVIRT 4.0.6 / Pools / Spinning up Pool (Cannot get parent volume?)

2017-01-18 Thread Devin Acosta
I am trying to get a pool going within oVIRT. When I go to create the pool
it errors out on trying to spin up the instances. However if i manually
spin up an instance from the Template it comes up with no issues. I noticed
inside the vdsm.log i see messages about "'Cannot get parent volume' - code
216", however I looked at the NFS share and the permissions appear right

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Console on Windows 7

2017-01-18 Thread Brett Holcomb
I tried Chrome and it worked fine right out of the box. All I had to do
was download the file first (because Chrome is stupid about that - way
to go Google) and then right click on the file in the bottom download
bar and select Always open files of this type and it found and used
remote-viewer. If I delete the vv file and open another vm console it
works fine. Chrome is also more responsive and faster. Bye Firefox -
this was the last application that needed you.

I've found a lot of contradictory advice (big surprise! ). Some say I
need to install spice.cab (link does not work and a working link lead to
a site with malware which got blocked).

So what do I need to use a console in the portal in Windows 7?

Also, when will the portal work with Chrome?

Download the virt VIEWER from
https://virt-manager.org/download/sources/virt-viewer/virt-viewer-x64-5.0.msi
assuming you have a 64 bit windows. If you
don't there are links to 32 bit on https://virt-manager.org/download/ again
make sure to download the VIEWER not the manager.

Then in your browser associate .vv files with the virt viewer and clicking the
console button should be all you need to make it work.

The portal has worked in Chrome since at least oVirt 3.1 maybe even earlier.
Anything in particular that doesn't work for you?

Thanks.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Console on Windows 7

2017-01-18 Thread Brett Holcomb
I had downloaded the virt-viewer but removed it and downloaded again.
I'm on 64 bit windows. When I run the console I set virt viewer under
the bin directory as the run with. I get a window and the message

"unable to connect to libvirt with URL [none]"

I'll try Chrome. I started using oVirt at 3.5 but evidently was mislead
by outdated documentation which said it didn't work unless you
downloaded tons of stuff and jumped through hoops. I'll try it again
since that would let me get rid of Firefox.

Thanks to all who answered.

That's right Device Manager says this:

We can´t migrate to oVirt 4.X yet. Is it safe to mix the oVirt Tools Setup
for oVirt 4.x in a oVirt 3.6 Installation ?

[ovirt-users] Select As SPM Fails

2017-01-18 Thread Beau Sapach
Hello everyone,

I'm about to start digging through the mailing list archives in search of a
solution but thought I would post to the list as well. I'm running oVirt
3.6 on a 2 node CentOS7 cluster backed by fiber channel storage and with a
separate engine VM running outside of the cluster (NOT hosted-engine).

When I try to move the SPM role from one node to the other I get the
following in the web interface:

When I look into /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log I see the following:

2017-01-18 13:35:09,332 ERROR
[org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.vdsbroker.HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDSCommand]
(default task-26) [6990cfca] Failed in 'HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDS' method
2017-01-18 13:35:09,340 ERROR

(default task-26) [6990cfca] Correlation ID: null, Call Stack: null, Custom
Event ID: -1, Message: VDSM v6 command failed: Logical Volume extend failed

When I look at the task list on the host currently holding the SPM role (in
this case 'v6'), using: vdsClient -s 0 getAllTasks, I see a long list like
this:

dc75d3e7-cea7-449b-9a04-76fd8ef0f82b :
 verb = downloadImageFromStream
 code = 554
 state = recovered
 tag = spm
 result =
message = Logical Volume extend failed
 id = dc75d3e7-cea7-449b-9a04-76fd8ef0f82b

When I look at /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log on the host in question (v6) I see
messages like this:

'531dd533-22b1-47a0-aae8-76c1dd7d9a56': {'code': 554, 'tag': u'spm',
'state': 'recovered', 'verb': 'downloadImageFromStreaam', 'result': '',
'message': 'Logical Volume extend failed', 'id':

As well as the error from the attempted extend of the logical volume:

The logical volume in question is an OVF_STORE disk that lives on one of
the fiber channel backed LUNs. If I run:

vdsClient -s 0 ClearTask TASK-UUID-HERE

for each task that appears in the:

vdsClient -s 0 getAllTasks

output then they disappear and I'm able to move the SPM role to the other
host.

This problem then crops up again on the new host once the SPM role is
moved. What's going on here? Does anyone have any insight as to how to
prevent this task from re-appearing? Or why it's failing in the first
place?

2017-01-18 Thread Beckman, Daniel
Hello,

Question for you: in Device Manager are there any devise showing up as
“unknown”, as in lacking a driver?

2012 R2 Standard x86-64

Hi Andrea

Triple Check

When the path is wrong we get this type of message:

"Windows could not start the Balloon Service on Local Computer.

Error2: The system cannot find the file specified."

But in this case, we get:

"The OVirt Guest Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some
services stop automatically if they are not in use in use by other services or
programs."

¿ Maybe a oVirt bug ?

Hello Juliàn,
Have you double checked on your guest agent that OVirtGuestService.exe is
really found in
C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe
? The configured service path must exactly match the real one.

Hi Andrea
I tried with this solution:

https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg37420.html
And I input this orders:

Balloon Service oVirt 3.6:

sc config BalloonService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe" DisplayName= "Balloon Service
oVirt 3.6" start= auto

SPICE:

sc config vdservice binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\64\vdservice.exe" DisplayName= "SPICE VDAgent" start= auto

oVirt Service:

sc config OVirtGuestService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe" DisplayName= "OVirt Guest Service" start= auto
This solution corrects the BalloonService error, but oVirt Service doesn't work
yet:

"The OVirt Guest Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some
services stop automatically if they are not in use in use by other services or
programs."

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Console on Windows 7

2017-01-18 Thread Staniforth, Paul
The virt-manager package has a number of programs but the one you should use is
remote-viewer. In your clients browser associate the console.vv file with
remote-viewer and then it will start remote-viewer passing the console.vv file
with the connection details including the OTP (one time p...word).

Subject: [ovirt-users] oVirt Console on Windows 7

On my Windows machine I can run the web portal without issues but I
would like to use the console from the portal on the VMs. I installed
the virt-manager but it if I do

spice://myengine.my.domain:5900 it tells me I can't connect.

I've found a lot of contradictory advice (big surprise! ). Some say I
need to install spice.cab (link does not work and a working link lead to
a site with malware which got blocked).

So what do I need to use a console in the portal in Windows 7?

Also, when will the portal work with Chrome?

Thanks.

Hi Slava,

do you have at least one another host in the same cluster or DC which doesn't
have connection issues (in status Up or Maintenance)?
If so, please turn on debug logging for power management part using following
command:

/usr/share/ovirt-engine-wildfly/bin/jboss-cli.sh --controller= [
http://127.0.0.1:8706/ | 127.0.0.1:8706 ] --connect --user=admin@internal

and enter following inside jboss-cli command prompt:

/subsystem=logging/logger=org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.pm:add
/subsystem=logging/logger=org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.pm:write-attribute(name=level,value=DEBUG)

quit

Afterwards you will see more details in engine.log why other hosts were
rejected during fence proxy selection process.

Btw above debug log changes are not permanent, they will be reverted on
ovirt-engine restart or using following command:

/usr/share/ovirt-engine-wildfly/bin/jboss-cli.sh --controller= [
http://127.0.0.1:8706/ | 127.0.0.1:8706 ] --connect --user=admin@internal
'/subsystem=logging/logger=org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.pm:remove'

Anantha, when you say “will not allow us to change anything” what exactly do
you mean?

Does it generate the same “unhandled exception” error as when adding disks
or something else?

I was able to specify 4 vCPUs consisting of 2 sockets (each with dual core)
and it worked fine.

If you specify a disk FIRST and then try to to change the virtual CPU

configuration it will no longer work. Basically if you edit/change/add a disk
and a new window pops up, some stuff that shouldn't have been cleaned up, is
cleaned up and breaks anything that relies on that, like the check to see if
the virtual CPU configuration is valid. A bunch of other stuff as well like
the exception mentioned below.

Re: [ovirt-users] Recommended Ovirt Implementation on Active-Active Datacenters (Site 1 and Site2) - Same Cluster

2017-01-18 Thread Rogério Ceni Coelho
Hi oVirt Masters !!!

I create Affinity Rules with sucess using REST API as Martin Sivak wrote on
https://www.ovirt.org/blog/2016/07/affinity-labels

I only want to tell him ( and all others users ) that the URL to check on
his blog is not right ( or at least nomore ).

Wrong way : ( Do not list hosts on affinitylabels - Original as wrote on
Martin Blogs - $ cengine -f
http://localhost:8080/ovirt-engine/api/affinitylabels | jq -r
'.affinity_label[] | {id, name, vms, hosts}')

[root@hlg-rbs-ovirt01-poa ~]# cengine -f
https://hlg-rbs-ovirt01-poa.rbs.com.br/ovirt-engine/api/affinitylabels

{
  "affinity_label" : [ {
"read_only" : "false",
"name" : "DATACENTER_TV",
"href" :
"/ovirt-engine/api/affinitylabels/37f59ae4-2c63-46ac-a126-aa75b5be3437",

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Guest Agent doesn't work in Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard x86-64

2017-01-18 Thread Andrea Ghelardi
My Ovirt guest services runs fine on W2012R2, but your ovirt tools is old
compared to mine.
I would try to upgrade both ovirt tools and the engine to version 4
Since engine upgrade is advised but could impact your environment, I would try
to download the latest ovirt tools from here
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.0/iso/oVirt-toolsSetup/ and import its
ISO.
You can then mount it to your guest via usual mean and “upgrade” your guest
tools.

I do not remember if Windows 2012R2 is officially supported in Ovirt 3.6.7
tought.

Cheers
AG

Hello Juliàn,
Have you double checked on your guest agent that OVirtGuestService.exe is
really found in
C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe
? The configured service path must exactly match the real one.

Hi Andrea
I tried with this solution:

https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg37420.html
And I input this orders:

Balloon Service oVirt 3.6:

sc config BalloonService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe" DisplayName= "Balloon Service
oVirt 3.6" start= auto

SPICE:

sc config vdservice binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\64\vdservice.exe" DisplayName= "SPICE VDAgent" start= auto

oVirt Service:

sc config OVirtGuestService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe" DisplayName= "OVirt Guest Service" start= auto
This solution corrects the BalloonService error, but oVirt Service doesn't work
yet:

"The OVirt Guest Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some
services stop automatically if they are not in use in use by other services or
programs."

Hello Julian
I posted a similar case last year. If you search the group you will find my
post with the solution embedded.
You will need to edit the service changing the path of the executable

[ovirt-users] Failed to attach a disk

2017-01-18 Thread Fabrice Bacchella
I upgraded an host to the latest version of vdsm:
vdsm-4.18.21-1.el7.centos.x86_64, on a CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core)

I then created a disk that I wanted to attach to a running vm, but il fails,
with the message in /var/log/libvirt/qemu/.log:

What a strange mix of group owner. Any explanation for that ? Is that a known
bug ?

The new disk is the 300G one, owned by kvm.

At some point I opened a bug about this:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1313861

I can't say I fully understand the root cause. I guess it happens if you
connected with a browser to a previous version and for some reason it
didn't refresh its cache after an upgrade (as it was supposed to do? not sure).

Near the bottom of the attached log:

2017-01-18 18:57:06,599 ERROR [io.undertow.servlet] (default task-7)
Exception while dispatching incoming RPC call:
com.google.gwt.user.client.rpc.SerializationException: Can't find the

I suggest trying with a new browser profile, and/or restarting

Download the virt VIEWER from
https://virt-manager.org/download/sources/virt-viewer/virt-viewer-x64-5.0.msi
assuming you have a 64 bit windows. If you
don't there are links to 32 bit on https://virt-manager.org/download/ again
make sure to download the VIEWER not the manager.

Then in your browser associate .vv files with the virt viewer and clicking the
console button should be all you need to make it work.

The portal has worked in Chrome since at least oVirt 3.1 maybe even earlier.
Anything in particular that doesn't work for you?

[ovirt-users] oVirt/RHEV and Oracle

2017-01-18 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
any experience on this, both from a technical/performance (where I have no
doubts actually) and from a licensing mgmt point of view?
I know that eg for vSphere, due to the its newest migration capabilities in
version 6.x (both in storage and in computing), one is kind of obliged to
license the whole vSphere infrastructure, even if he/she has separate
Datacenters dedicated to Oracle.

Any thought or link or Red Hat KB pointers or similar are welcome.

Cheers,
Gianluca

Debug is disabled by default, but in is enabled in almost all the
examples. As I suggested an example I also suggest to makes sure to
disable it.

Compression is enabled by default in version 4.1 of the SDK, which isn't
released yet. In version 4.0 it needs to be enabled explicitly.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Guest Agent doesn't work in Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard x86-64

2017-01-18 Thread Andrea Ghelardi
Hello Juliàn,
Have you double checked on your guest agent that OVirtGuestService.exe is
really found in
C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe
? The configured service path must exactly match the real one.

Subject: Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Guest Agent doesn't work in Windows Server
2012 R2 Standard x86-64

Hi Andrea
I tried with this solution:

https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg37420.html
And I input this orders:

Balloon Service oVirt 3.6:

sc config BalloonService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\drivers\Balloon\2k12R2\amd64\blnsvr.exe" DisplayName= "Balloon Service
oVirt 3.6" start= auto

SPICE:

sc config vdservice binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\64\vdservice.exe" DisplayName= "SPICE VDAgent" start= auto

oVirt Service:

sc config OVirtGuestService binpath= "C:\Program Files (x86)\oVirt Guest
Tools\OVirtGuestService.exe" DisplayName= "OVirt Guest Service" start= auto
This solution corrects the BalloonService error, but oVirt Service doesn't work
yet:

"The OVirt Guest Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some
services stop automatically if they are not in use in use by other services or
programs."
