[ovirt-users] hosted-engine --check-liveliness returns "Hosted Engine is not up!" for host other cluster

2018-09-07 Thread omprakashp
Hi ,

I am just getting started with Ovirt. I have setup 3 Ovirt-Nodes(all on
physical host) and deployed self hosted engine with iscsi storage on one of the
host.

On engine ui, i have create two Clusters(C1, C2) and Engine is running in C1.

While executing "hosted-engine --check-liveliness" on hosts in C2 cluster, it
says "Hosted Engine is not up!". Is this an issue? Or this means i have to
deploy hosted engine in C2 cluster too.

2018-09-07 Thread Sahina Bose
Did you see the
https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/gluster/gluster-geo-replication/#create-a-new-geo-replication-session
?

You can set up a new session from oVirt only if you are managing the remote
(slave) gluster cluster from oVirt as well. Otherwise you can either use
gluster-ansible role (https://github.com/gluster/gluster-ansible-features)
or the cli (
https://docs.gluster.org/en/v3/Administrator%20Guide/Geo%20Replication/) to
do so.

You can have 1 volume replicated to mulitple sites.

Hi Sahina,
https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/gluster/gluster-geo-replication/

Unfortunately, there isn't info on how to set this up.
Can you share with us any tips or info needed to do geo-rep between 2 sites?
I also read an article that says geo-rep between 3 sites is possible?

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Info about procedure to shutdown hosted engine VM

2018-09-07 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I'm writing a workflow regarding operations to do in case of planned
maintenance where one has to stop all hypervisors and so also hosted engine
vm.
At the moment I have imagined:
- shutdown all VMs but Hosted Engine
- put into maintenance and then shutdown all the hosts where Engine is not
running, one by one
- put environment in global maintenance

Now the next step would be to shutdown Hosted Engine VM.

As my workflow is for users not necessarily expert with Linux I was
thinking what would be an alternate method in respect of direct connect via
ssh as root user and run "shutdown -h now" on engine

Is there anything I can do from gui of web admin portal or cockpit of the
host where it is running?

Can I for example select to shutdown engine vm from web admin UI with a
certain delay in time so that I disconnect and wait?
Or anything I can do from cockpit of the host?

Of course I'm searching for a supported flow.

Thanks in advance,
Gianluca

Couldn't find an oVirt documentation page for this, but here:
https://access.redhat.com/articles/906543
I found:
Maximum number of concurrently running virtual guests: unlimited
Maximum number of virtual CPUs in virtualized guest: 240
Maximum memory in virtualized guest: 4TB
Minimum memory in virtualized guest: N/A

Note that this is theoretical, it depends on your hardware.

DiskAttachments is a list, so you just need to specify as much of the
disk as you need:

   snap = snaps_service.add(
   snapshot=types.Snapshot(
   description=snap_description,
   persist_memorystate=False,
   disk_attachments=[
   types.DiskAttachment(
   disk=types.Disk(
   id=disk_id
   )
   ),
   types.DiskAttachment(
   disk=types.Disk(
   id=disk_id_2
   )
   ),
   ]
   ),
   )

$releasever
You can use this variable to reference the release version of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux. Yum obtains the value of $releasever from the
distroverpkg=*value* line in the /etc/yum.conf configuration file. If there
is no such line in /etc/yum.conf, then yuminfers the correct value by
deriving the version number from the redhat-release-server package. The
value of $releasever typically consists of the major release number and the
variant of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, for example 6Client, or 6Server
Can you please run: rpm -qv redhat-release-server
to check you have redhat-release-server installed on your RHEL host?

If this happens randomly after the installation you may be suffering some
dns or other network related issue.
