[ovirt-users] About Local Storage dir

2018-09-18 Thread adam...@adagene.com.cn
Hello, everyone. I want to export my vm as a ova to local path of the ovirt
node. but I saw something about the local storage in the ovirt document:
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/
It said:
Preparing Local Storage
...
Important: On oVirt Node, the path used for local storage must be within the
/var directory; create the storage directory in the following procedure within
/var

I check the partation of my ovirt nodes. the /var has only 15GB space and the
root dir / has 2.1 TB space. that is the default during the ovirt node
installation.

question: why the loca storage must be put in the /var directory?

thanks.

yours Adam

[ovirt-users] Re: 4.2 User Portal

2018-09-18 Thread Staniforth, Paul
Thanks Greg,

I can't seem to add or delete Nics from the VM portal
it lets you choose a VNIC profile but clicking the OK button does nothing.

Also at https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-web-ui using the Quick run using Docker
instructions seems to be using an old release.

Sorry about this -- it was an oversight. If you pull the latest version

Hello!
Users cannot edit and expand VM's disks from the User Portal after 4.2 upgrade

VM UI screenshot attached.
Users can press Edit icon, but only "Editing" appears and nothing more.
Same thing happens under admin's accounts on User Portal.

How can we fix this issue, so users can edit they VM from the User Portal as it
was in 4.1 ?
Thanks.

[ovirt-users] How to change host ips in engine database

2018-09-18 Thread Jayme
I changed engine and host ips to a totally different subnet. My cluster is
up and engine is working but I'm seeing that network is out of sync. If I
attempt to sync the network it's changing the host ips back to the old
subnet. I assume I changed the IPS improperly. How can I update the Ovirt
engine db and change the IPS manaully so when the sync operation occurs it
sets the new and proper ips? The engine loses connectivity with the host
when it changes the subnet back to the original since it has no routes to it

vm: up refers to vm status at virt level polling a local vdsm, health: bad
refers instead to a live check on the engine portal over http.
Bad name resolution or network routing issues can cause this. I'd suggest
to check if everything is fine on network side.

we don’t support that directly.
You can use(write) a vdsm hook to add the necessary libvirt xml part to your VM
definition. That should work just fine

[ovirt-users] Re: Proxmox - oVirt Migration

2018-09-18 Thread Leo David
Hi,
I have succesfully used the import-to-ovirt.pl script to migrate a qcow
local disk to oVirt export domain.
Thanks a lot for that !
The problem is that most of the vms are having their disk on ceph as rbd's.
Thist is why i think the bootable virt-p2p would be more appropiate... but
it seems is still not working.
Any thoughts ?

Thanks,

Leo

[ovirt-users] Ovirt attach serial port on VM

2018-09-18 Thread Alex K
Hi all,

I have a serial port on one of the servers where the guest VM is running.

setserial -g /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4

I wanted the serial port to be connected at the VM, so as the VM to be able
to use directly the serial port of the server. Thus I went at host devices
to add the port but I am not able to find it, as the serial port is not
listed at PCI devices.

I recall that on plain KVM one could be able to attach such a serial port
at a guest VM. Has anyone been able to attach a serial port to a guest VM
woth ovirt? (I am running 4.2.5)

Thanx,
Alex

[ovirt-users] Re: Proxmox - oVirt Migration

2018-09-18 Thread Leo David
Hi,
I have tried already first option - not working..
Maybe the second would work, but i'm in the middle of figuring out why it
does not work with virt-p2v iso, since it seems that it should do the job.
1. I have booted one vm with the iso
2. tested the connection against an ovirt node
3. selected:
- Output: rhv
- Output storage: 10.10.6.13://ovirt-export ( exact path as i have it
configured on the engine, as an export domain )
- the rest of fields blank

Then it hangs, it seems is trying to connect to libvrt although i have
specified "rhv".
Below, a tail on virt-v2v-conversion-log.txt:

[ 0.4] Initializing the target -o rhv -os 10.10.6.13:/ovirt-export

Hi Leo,

Am 17.09.2018 um 14:30 schrieb Leo David:

Hello everyone,
I have this situation where I need to migrate about 20 vms from Proxmox
to oVirt.

In this case,  its about qcow2 images running on Proxmox.
I there a recomended way and procedure for doing this ?
not sure if this is really recommended, but I used the
import-to-ovirt.pl script that can be found at
http://git.annexia.org/?p=import-to-ovirt.git to import lvm-based VMs
from proxmox to oVirt. Maybe that helps.
It also seem that the oVirt export Domain is using qcow2-files. As you
have already such files you might also be able to build an export
storage domain without converting the files.

Bernhard

[ovirt-users] Supported Kernel upgrade (4.15+) for AMD EPYC hardware?

2018-09-18 Thread pousaduarte
Hi,

Currently, I have oVirt managing a cluster of EPYC machines. Before deploying
oVirt, though I ran a suite of benchmarks to attempt to determine whether there
is a performance benefit introduced by newer kernels, and indeed there is. The
benefit is workload dependant, but a benefit nonetheless.

Meanwhile, I have also installed the latest stable kernel from elrepo.org on
one of the oVirt nodes to test the waters and it seems to be working, that said
I'm pretty sure this is not a supported configuration, so before applying the
change to the whole cluster I would like to know if there is an
alternative/expected drawbacks to doing this.

If at all possible, I would like to retain the performance benefit while
deploying a tested and supported 4.15+ kernel, such as to not jeopardize system
stability.

2018-09-18 Thread Andrei Verovski
Hi,

Try to upload qcow into import domain via SSH, may be it will work, but I’m not
sure.

Another way is to hack oVirt - create VM with qcow2 image, rename yours,
replace via ssh, fix permissions.

I have some issues with Ovirt 4.2.6. But now the main this of it:
I have two Centos 7 Nodes with same config and last Ovirt 4.2.6 with

Also some of virtual machines working good.
But, when HostedEngine running on one node (srv02.local) everything is fine.
After migrating to another node (srv00.local), i see that agent cannot to check

Thanks a lot for your answer.
It's more HA then disaster recovery. If 1 storage is down, it should be
possible to use the second one without a downtime.
So Geo repolication of Gluster isn't really what we are looking for. The
storages are also located in 2 different buildings with redundant network and
FC connections and low latency.
According to your answer I guess LVM mirroring isn't possible, right?
Do you think using the FC LUNs as Gluster bricks could be a reasonable solution?
We have 2 storages with multiple LUNs, 4 oVirt hosts and 2 atm non used hosts,
so a distributed replicated volume with arbiter or replicated with arbiter
could also be possible to replicated the 2 storages, I think.
But I'm concerned about performance, as I don't have good experience with
Gluster on VMware when using 1 VMDK (hosted on a NetApp storage with 10K SAS
disks), but good experience with Gluster when using 12 (or 24) local SATA disks
in a host. So I fear that 1 LUN from a storage (ZFS storage with a pool of many
disks) is not as good as 12 local disks in a storage.

 Hi

We have manually mounted the lun in the node and not seeing any issues
,while mounting from the UI its failing , by the way one thing to update is
that nfs lun is created from the Dell unity NFS version3.

Any help can we get ?

 Thanks,
 Nagaraju

Instead of going and manually modifying files on host, there is also in web
UI the chance to expand options and force version 3 of NFS mount.
Have you already tried it?
