[ovirt-users] Which option is best for storage?

2019-01-03 Thread geoff
Hi,

Which is the preferred option for connecting oVirt VM farm to SAN/NAS?

NFS (10G), iSCSI (10G) or FC (8G)?

We are confused, some people say iSCSI is preferred and others say NFS performs
the better than iSCSI, but FC is most expensive but performs the best
overall

Would value expert opinion.

Cheers
Geoff

[ovirt-users] About ovirt guest agent for Linux 6 and 5

2019-01-03 Thread jingjie . jiang
Hi,
What the ovirt guest agent packages should be used for Linux 6 and 5?
I found one for Linux 6 at
http://rpmfind.net/linux/epel/6/x86_64/Packages/o/ovirt-guest-agent-1.0.13-2.el6.noarch.rpm.
What about https://resources.ovirt.org/? Any guest agent package for Linux 6
and 5 over there?

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Replacing Export Domain by Data Domain

2019-01-03 Thread tehnic
Hello all,

because using an export domain is deprecated i deleted my export domain and use
now a data domain instead. I used the export domain for complete image backups
of my production virtual machines. By using now a data domain its even more
comfortable because i can clone a snapshot directly on my backup data domain.

But there is a (small?) inconvenience:
I cannot "unregister" the cloned snapshot and i dont want to see them all the
time in the "Virtual Machines" list. For the moment i use a bookmark in the
"Vms:" filter. After detaching the domain the VMs are away, reattaching brings
them back for possible "Import VM".

Is there a possibility to set the cloned VM directly to this "unregistered"
state without detaching and reattaching the complete domain?

Best regards,
Robert

[ovirt-users] ISCSI Domain & LVM

2019-01-03 Thread tehnic
Hello all,

i have a question regarding this note in ovirt storage documentation:

**Important:** If you are using block storage and you intend to deploy virtual
machines on raw devices or direct LUNs and to manage them with the Logical
Volume Manager, you must create a filter to hide the guest logical volumes.
This will prevent guest logical volumes from being activated when the host is
booted, a situation that could lead to stale logical volumes and cause data
corruption.

What does "you must create a filter to hide the guest logical volumes" exactly
mean?
I assume i have to set some filter in lvm.conf on all ovirt hosts, but im not
sure about what to filter?

What i already saw is that after creating the ISCSI domain and
cloning/moving/creating virtual machines on it there are new PVs and LVs
visible on the ovirt hosts having an object UUID in the name (output from "pvs"
and "lvs" commands).
Is this expected behavior or do i have to filter exactly this ones by allowing
only local disks to be scanned for PVs/LVs?
Or do i have to setup filter to allow only local disks + ISCSI disks (in my
case /dev/sd?) to be scanned for PVs/LVs?

I noticed too that after detaching and removing the ISCSI domain i still have
UUID PVs. They all show up with "input/output error" in the output of "pvs" and
stay there until i reboot the ovirt hosts.

On my ISCSI target system i already set the correct lvm filters so that
"targetcli" is happy after reboot.

Thank you!

Happy new year,
Robert

[ovirt-users] Information about un-imported VMs. Delete Request.

2019-01-03 Thread Jacob Green
I have a Fiber Channel domain, it works, there are some VMs in the
VM import tab of the domain that I want to remove, I cannot import them,
because they technically already exsist with a duplicate VMID. Is there
a way to do this?

Alternatively if I cannot delete the data related the the imports, I
want to remove the disks attached to these un-imported VM's to free up
space on my Fiber Channel, is there a way to reliably identify which LVM
id's belong to those un-imported VMs?

Thank you.

If so, paste that along with maybe 20 or so lines above, for context.

In an older post in late 2016 there was a similar question.
See:
https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2016-October/077158.html
and replies (also in November)

One of the replies pointed to this github project:
https://github.com/nkovacne/ovirt-desktop-client//

At that time I tested it a bit and seemed working good. It seems it has not
been updated since January 2017
Among the replies there was also the note about User Portal replacement
through web-ui that now is reality, although still based on web browsing
functionality.
