[ovirt-users] oVirt 4.3 hosted engine migration

2019-01-17 Thread Maton, Brett
In the updated UI, it doesn't seem possible to migrate hosted engine from
Compute -> Host -> Virtual Machines
anymore, although there does appear to be a 'new' Cancel Migration button.

It's handy to be able to migrate the hosted engine from this view, I
normally manually migrate the hosted engine to another host before
upgrading and it's nice to be able to do it all in the same area, rather
than having to switch to the (all) virtual machines view and then back to
hosts.

Any chance this feature could be re-enabled?

Regards,
Brett

[ovirt-users] Re: Supporting comments on ovirt-site Blog section

2019-01-17 Thread Greg Sheremeta
+1. If we want a real blog with comments, we should move it from the
(really strange) middleman mechanism to wordpress or something.

(Also, we had wanted to move from middleman to jekyll, because that's more
known, ... guess that isn't related, but mentioning it anyway :))

[ovirt-users] Re: need network design advice for iSCSI

2019-01-17 Thread Vinícius Ferrão
MPIO by concept is when you have two dedicated paths for iSCSI.

So you don’t put iSCSI inside LACP, because it won’t do the MPIO magic. Since
it’s the same path with a single IP.

The right approach is two subjects, completely segregated without routing. You
can use the same switch, it will not be redundant on the switch part, but it
will be on the connections and you have two paths to follow load balancing
between them.

But to be honest I never get how oVirt handles MPIO. The iSCSI Multipath button
on the interface request that all points, on different paths, to be reached,
which doesn’t make sense for my understanding. In the past I’ve opened a ticket
about this but I simply gave up. Ended using XenServer instead for this case
specifically, which I was trying to avoid.

[ovirt-users] need network design advice for iSCSI

2019-01-17 Thread John Florian
I have an existing 4.2 setup with 2 hosts, both with a quad-gbit NIC and
a QNAP TS-569 Pro NAS with twin gbit NIC and five 7k2 drives.  At
present, the I have 5 VLANs, each with their own subnet as:

 1. my "main" net (VLAN 1, 172.16.7.0/24)
 2. ovirtmgmt (VLAN 100, 192.168.100.0/24)
 3. four storage nets (VLANs 101-104, 192.168.101.0/24 - 192.168.104.0/24)

On the NAS, I enslaved both NICs into a 802.3ad LAG and then bound an IP
address for each of the four storage nets giving me:

  * bond0.101@bond0: 192.168.101.101
  * bond0.102@bond0: 192.168.102.102
  * bond0.103@bond0: 192.168.103.103
  * bond0.104@bond0: 192.168.104.104

The hosts are similar, but with all four NICs enslaved into a 802.3ad LAG:

Host 1:

  * bond0.101@bond0: 192.168.101.203
  * bond0.102@bond0: 192.168.102.203
  * bond0.103@bond0: 192.168.103.203
  * bond0.104@bond0: 192.168.104.203

Host 2:

  * bond0.101@bond0: 192.168.101.204
  * bond0.102@bond0: 192.168.102.204
  * bond0.103@bond0: 192.168.103.204
  * bond0.104@bond0: 192.168.104.204

I believe my performance could be better though.  While running bonnie++
on a VM, the NAS reports top disk throughput around 70MB/s and the
network (both NICs) topping out around 90MB/s.  I suspect I'm being hurt
by the load balancing across the NICs.  I've played with various load
balancing options for the LAGs (src-dst-ip and src-dst-mac) but with
little difference in effect.  Watching the resource monitor on the NAS,
I can see that one NIC almost exclusive does transmits while the other
is almost exclusively receives.  Here's the bonnie report (my apologies
to those reading plain-text here):

I keep seeing MPIO mentioned for iSCSI deployments and now I'm trying to
get my head around how to best set that up or to even know if it would
be helpful.  I only have one switch (a Catalyst 3750g) in this small
setup so fault tolerance at that level isn't a goal.

So... what would the recommendation be?  I've never done MPIO before but
know where it's at in the web UI at least.

[ovirt-users] Use oVirt Node as virt-v2v server

2019-01-17 Thread Vinícius Ferrão
Hello,

I’m using virt-p2v tool to do some VM migrations from unsupported hypervisors
and stumbled across the need of a virt-v2v dedicated server to handle
conversions.

My first action was: rpm -qa on oVirt Node and found virt-v2v already
installed. So the natural ideia was to use oVirt Node as the conversion server,
it already have everything needed: virt-v2v and the export domain. So why not?

Well, it turns out it doesn’t work. After pointing to oVirt Node within
virt-p2v tool, the conversion procedure hangs at the begging, requesting an
username and password for libvirt that I’m unaware. And even if I was aware it
is impossible to input the values since there’s no escape from the console to
put the values nor any form on the GUI to do so.

libguestfs: libvirt version = 4005000 (4.5.0)
libguestfs: guest random name = guestfs-sf2i0jl3mmcxtwly
libguestfs: connect to libvirt
libguestfs: opening libvirt handle: URI = qemu:///system, auth =
default+wrapper, flags = 0
libvirt needs authentication to connect to libvirt URI qemu:///system
(see also: http://libvirt.org/auth.html http://libvirt.org/uri.html)
Please enter your authentication name: Please enter your password:

I eventually gave up and spun a VM with virt-v2v and the conversion is running.

The question is: wasn’t a good ideia to use oVirt Node as the conversion
server? Why it failed? I still have a lot of conversions to do, and if I can
use the node installation it would be great.

Thanks,

 Ah, ok, thanks.
 I think you are referring to this feature page and I see in my 4.2.7

 Are the two described TBD features:
 - export as ova also a running VM
 - stream to export to ovirt-imageio daemon
 supposed to be included in 4.3, or is there already a planned target
 release for them?

 you can export them to ova on some device that can later be mounted to
 the destination environment.
 this is similar to the export domain functionality - but you didn't
 specify why the export domain functionality is not applicable for you.

The first one is included in 4.3 already (in general, the ova handling is
better in 4.3 compared to 4.2 in terms of speed).
The second is unlikely to happen as we found there's no real need for it.

Yes, but note that you need to mount the NFS share in a way that the root
user on host can write to the specified path.

Unfortunately, it is indeed done that way in 4.2 :/
Let me explain:
We wanted disks within the ova to be of type qcow (for several reasons,
like thin-provisioning, compression).
In 4.2 we create temporary disks on the storage that are then copied into
the OVA (and then removed).
In 4.3 qemu-img converts the images directly into the place they should be
within the OVA. That's the reason for the export process being faster in
4.3.

[ovirt-users] Problems with procedure in blog post...

2019-01-17 Thread Jason P. Thomas

rgolan asked me to post this here for him.

I'm trying the procedure from this blog post:
https://ovirt.org/blog/2019/01/ovirt-openshift-part-1.html

Ultimate goal is to install ovirt metrics store.  I've tried vars.yaml
with and without the ovirt metrics stuff commented out.

The errors seem to revolve around downloading the centos qcow2c image.
With image_path: "{{ lookup('env', 'HOME') }}/Downloads/{{ template_name
}}.qcow2"

defined, I get the following error:
fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"msg": "The task includes an option with
an undefined variable. The error was: 'dict object' has no attribute
'isdir'\n\nThe error appears to have been in
'/usr/share/ansible/roles/ovirt.image-template/tasks/qcow2_image.yml':
line 12, column 3, but may\nbe elsewhere in the file depending on the
exact syntax problem.\n\nThe offending line appears to be:\n\n\n- name:
Download the qcow image\n  ^ here\n"}

If I comment out the above image_path line and uncomment the one at the
bottom of vars.yaml that specifies /var/tmp, I get this error:

fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "cmd": "/usr/bin/file
/var/tmp/CentOS-7-x86_64-GenericCloud.qcow2c", "msg": "[Errno 2] No such
file or directory", "rc": 2}

Ah, ok, thanks.
I think you are referring to this feature page and I see in my 4.2.7 env I
can do it for a powered off VM:
https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/virt/enhance-import-export-with-ova.html

I will try
Are the two described TBD features:
- export as ova also a running VM
- stream to export to ovirt-imageio daemon
supposed to be included in 4.3, or is there already a planned target
release for them?

this is similar to the export domain functionality - but you didn't specify
why the export domain functionality is not applicable for you.

in this case, you can optimize the above with [1] - export the vm as ova on
one of the hosts that is installed with the ovirt-sdk and upload the ova
from that host to the destination environment.

I don't think it is possible - you'll need the VM to be configured but not
running on the host (in this case, the engine asks vdsm to destroy the vm).
and anyway I wouldn't do that - it is targeted for importing from foreign
environments. one of the side effects is that you'll lose the
oVirt-specific configuration of the vm.

Or is there (eventually via command line) a way to use virt-v2v in this

virt-v2v is just an overkill for this scenario.

[ovirt-users] How to import from another oVirt / RHV environment

2019-01-17 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I have two different oVirt 4.2 environments and I want to migrate some big
VMs from one to another.
I'm not able to detach and attach the block based domain where are the
disks of source.
And I cannot use export domain functionality.
But the 2 environments, both hosts and engines, are able to communicate.
Can I use in some way the import Virtual Machine functionality with the
"KVM(via Libvirt)" source type?
Or is there (eventually via command line) a way to use virt-v2v in this
case?
Thanks,
Gianluca

2019-01-17 Thread femi adegoke
nVidia GRID does NOT work for vGPU.
Let me say that again, GRID does not work for vGPU.
Ask me how I know (insert sarcasm emoji)
I have a long email thread of trying to get it configured with the help of a
few RH folks.
It does NOT do vGPU.
You need a card like a Tesla P4.

Hi Reza,
it’s nvidia’s doc, you would have to talk to them if you have more questions.
All I understand from that doc (it’s just little more below on the same page)
is that they explicitly say that K1 and K2 do not support vGPU. This might be a
licensing limitation or temporary or anything else, I don’t know.

Hi Marco,

It looks like I'm suffering form the same issue, see;
https://lists.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/2019-January/035602.html
I've included a simple github gist there, which you can run on the machines
with the stale shards.
However i haven't tested the full purge, it works well on individual
files/shards.

Did you install guest tools RPM before running engine-setup? Was ISO domain
created during engine-setup execution?
I guess documentation is not aligned to how the automated upload works.

Since 4.2.7 you have --restore-from-file=backup.tar.gz option in
hosted-engine tool.

You should take a backup with engine-backup and redeploy on a new storage
domain.
It will be fully automated and at the end you will have a new engine VM on
a different storage domain; everything else will be imported with the
backup.
The old HE storage domain will be still visible in the new engine if you
have to move other disks created there or similar, after that you can
manually decommission it.

Currently on hosted-engine-side we are not saving engine credentials at all
so there is really no way to trigger any automatic action over engine API.

Personally I'm neither persuaded that having the hosted-engine VM floating
here and there across different clusters is a good idea: the cluster
concept is there to enforce that a set of hosts have a set of shared
features and run on a compatible version.
If we decide to ignore that constraints we can open the door to a lot
possible issues.

What we can instead do is provide an ansible playbook or something like
that to definitively migrate the engine VM to a different cluster on the
next book.
I fear it could require to directly edit the DB and reboot the engine VM.

 Hello

 I am trying to migrate my hosted-engine VM to another cluster in the
 same data center. Hosts in both clusters have the same logical networks
 and storage. Yet migrating the VM isn't an option.

 To get the hosted-engine VM on the other cluster I started the VM on
 host in that other cluster using "hosted-engine --vm-start."

 However HostedEngine still associated with old cluster as shown
 attached. So I cannot live migrate the VM. Does anyone know how to
 resolve? With other VMs one can shut them down then using the "Edit"
 option. Though that will not work for HostedEngine.

[ovirt-users] 4.3 rc2: info about shutdown of last host and networking page

2019-01-17 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
env with single host HCI deployment from node ng iso
After powering off VMs, put into global maintenance, shutdown hosted
engine, I then run shutdown on host. This I think would simulate also a
total shutdown scenario when you have the final step of shutdown of the
final host.
This is what I see in console about failure in several unmounts, both /var
and /var/log and also gluster related filesystems
Could there be any dependency problem?
See here the screenshot:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wqqXlmT66hHLJ8DMcwfPvDXJHkWm_ijE/view?usp=sharing

Also I have not understood the networking page of host in Cockpit:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1isX4F8qPcFmTyhmCVnZadhp6NY0R9Sy7/view?usp=sharing

in my scenario I was downloading a 1Gb image for the CentOS Atomic host
from public glance repo.
Questions:
- how to explain the receiving box graph? What are the different color
lines for?
- In "receiving" column inside the "interfaces" sections I see all "0" for
gluster one (eth1) and empty (no value) for ovirtmgmt (perhaps because it
is unmanaged from host point of view?)

Also, it seems to me that the temporary bridge for hosted engine deployment
on 192.168.124.0 (virbr0) is still there even after finishing the
deployment, even if with "no carrier"... is this expected?
Better perhaps to undefine the network after deployment?

[ovirt-users] Re: Windows 10 VM Virtio Drivers

2019-01-17 Thread kiv
Hi all!

I have a similar problem. ISO domain is connected. The documentation says:

**Note:** The **virtio-win.vfd** diskette is placed automatically on ISO
storage domains that are hosted on the Engine server. You can upload it
manually to a data storage domain.

But there is nothing there. Where to get virtio-win.vfd ?

Further in the documentation it is written:

Note: The oVirt-tools-setup.iso ISO file is automatically copied to the default
ISO storage domain, if any, when you run engine-setup, or must be manually
uploaded to an ISO storage domain.

This image is also missing.

BTW: engine storage domain was present and ok; for data and vmstorage
storage domains I was able to manually add them without problems post
deployment using 10.10.10.216:/data and 10.10.10.216:/vmstorage as
connections
