[ovirt-users] Re: Replacing hosted engine on Gluster

2021-06-21 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
The difference is that up to now, you have been using block storage instead of
file storage.
I would create a separate gluster volume only for the engine and then stop the
engine on the iSCSI, Logout out of the iSCSI and restore the engine on the
gluster volume.
One benefit of Gluster is that you can make snapshots of the VM on gluster
level (power off engine, snapshot , power on) before updates.
Drawback of Engine on Gluster is that you need to know a little bit about
Gluster in case something breaks.

1. Use gluster's remove-brick replica 2 (with flag force)and then 'add-brick

[ovirt-users] Re: Why cannot connect to KVM Libvirtd using oVirt ??

2021-06-21 Thread Edward Berger
oVirt runs as user vdsm@ovirt so security settings prevent other users
including root from seeing it by default.

root should be able to see it as in readonly

 virsh -r list

You can either run the command on hypervisor like this alias

alias virsh='virsh -c
qemu:///system?authfile=/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/virsh_auth.conf'

or you can lookup the default vdsm@ovirt password online and then login
with those credentials and see it.

#root account on 'oVirt node' hosts can't connect to ovirt's details
#login as vdsm@ovirt instead
#
# virsh -c qemu:///system
# user: vdsm@ovirt
# pass: shibboleth

[ovirt-users] Re: Recovering from corrupted hosted-engine

2021-06-21 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
And why did you loose your Linux VMs ?
The disks are still there unless you lost storage domain .
Also, the restore procedure of the hosted engine is straight forward.
Best Regards,Strahil Nikolov

OK. To bring this to a close...

There were some casualties, but ultimately I was able to salvage a dozen or so
virtual machines using the "qemu-img convert -O vmdk vmdiskfile
vmdiskfile.vmdk" command. In case anyone else finds themself in a similar
situation, this involved the following steps:

1) Give up on the hosted-engine.
2) SSH into RHEV and navigate to the VM storage domain.
3) Go into each UUID folder and run # qemu-img convert -O vmdk vmdiskfile
vmdiskfile.vmdk
4) Secure-copy vmdiskfile_converted.vmdk to VMware.
5) SSH onto the VMware host.
6) Run # vmkfstool -i vmdiskfile.vmdk new_file_name.vmdk.
7) Attach new_file_name.vmdk to a new VM in VMware. Make sure "Firmware" is set
to "BIOS", under Edit Settings > VM Options > Boot Options.
8) Boot the VMware VM, and Windows should automatically load and you should be
good to start removing the RHEV-related VM tools and install the VMware tools.

** Note: Remember my situation involved migrating away from RHEV over to
VMware. So, I really wasn't concerned about recovering the hosted-engine. And,
prior the hosted-engine going down, in preparation to migration to VMware I had
already removed all snapshots from all RHEV VMs. This all made what's below
possible, and a lot easier. Also, these steps didn't always work. I was able to
recover 75% of Windows VMs. Unfortunately, I experienced a 100% lost for Linux
VMs.

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt + Gluster issues

2021-06-21 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
Most peobably that VM has a very old snapshot. Sadly, 'deletion' ( merging
snapahot to base disk) takes extra space.
You have to find temporary storage that can be added to the volume , in order
to delete that snapahot and free enough space.

oVirt never uses passowrd for ssh communication to the root user of remote
hosts.Check if passwordless ssh is configured. You can set a host in
maintenance and re add the host.

du -h —max-depthh=1

Node software was installed on fresh CentOS 7.xx from oVirt admin web console.

I cleaned this directory, yet question remain - why logrotate service is not

Or this is not recommended?

Thanks in advance.

[ovirt-users] Re: hosted-engine --vm-start not working

2021-06-21 Thread Edward Berger
I would see this if the engine VM storage was not accessible.
In my case a targetd iscsi server for the hosted storage wouldn't serve it
after rebooting from a power outage.
More specifically, the iscsi host had let LVM startup scan the device,
which prevented targetd from serving it.

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt + Gluster issues

2021-06-21 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
If you enabled sharding, don't disable it any more.My previous comment was just
a statement and not a recommendation.
Based on the output, the /home2/brick2  is part of the root.
Obviosly, gluster thinks that the brick is full and you got very few options:-
extend any brick or add more bricks to the volume- shutdown all VMs on that
volume, reduce the minimum reserved space in gluster (gluster volume set data1
cluster.min-free-disk 0%) and then storage migrate the disk to a bigger
datastore- shitdown all VMs on that volume(datastore),reduce the minimum
reserved space in gluster (gluster volume set data1 cluster.min-free-disk 0%)
and then delete unnecessary data (like snapshots you don't need any more).
The first option is the most reliable. Once gluster has some free space to
operate, you will be able to delete (consolidate) VM snapshots or to delete VMs
that are less important (for example sandboxes, test VMs, etc). Yet, paused VMs
will resume automatically and will continue to fill in Gluster which could lead
to the same situation - so just power them off (ugly but most probably
necessary).

Hello All,

recently I have changed my firewall and DNS server and I have noticed that
engine-setup warns with:

The command used was:
'dig +noall +answer FQDN ANY'

It seems that according to RFC8482, ANY is deprecated and DNS can return
anything.
Once such example is the output of 'dig wikipedia.org ANY' .

What are our options now ? I guess we can query for A and records ?

2021-06-21 Thread Guillaume Pavese
OVA imports, template or vm, silently fail like with Export Domain imports.
Could it be because of the Cluster compatibility version set to 4.6 on both
VM & template I am trying to import?
On the origin oVirt 4.4.6 DC, before exporting them, I tried to see if I
could set them to a lower compatibility version but only 4.6is available

[ovirt-users] Problems moving vm & templates between oVirt 4.3 & 4.4

2021-06-21 Thread Guillaume Pavese
On ovirt 4.4.6, I created a VM and made a template from it.
I would like to copy them to oVirt 4.3.7 & 4.3.10 DCs

- I saw that Export Domain is deprecated. I tried exporting the VM &
template to an Export Domain anyway but,
after attaching the Export DOmain on my ovirt 4.3.7 DC, both VM and
Template imports failed.
The Template import failed immediately without any errors visible in the
UI,
The VM import failed with the message "General command validation failure."

- I tried to do it through a Data Domains as recommended, but:
If created on oVirt 4.4.6, I get a Format V5 DataDomain that my oVirt 4.3.7
refuses to import.
If created first on the oVirt 4.3 DC, I get a Format V4 Domain. But then
importing it on the oVirt 4.4 DC, I get the message: "Approving this
operation will upgrade the Storage Domain format from 'V4' to 'V5'. Note
that you will not be able to attach it back to an older Data Center."

In "Administration > Providers" everything seems supported, from XEN / KVM
and even VMware (we have used all three with some success).
However oVirt is the obvious missing option...

I still have to try "Export as OVA",
is that the only supported way?

[ovirt-users] Recovering from corrupted hosted-engine

2021-06-21 Thread timothy . dilbert
Hi Guys,

We had a 2-node self-supported RHEV cluster that we used for our development
environment. We're in the middle of a migration from RHEV over to VMware - one
host has already been converted to VMware and we have actively been running VM
migrations over to VMware. During the migration, we had an extended power
outage and had to improperly shut down the RHEV host. Since bringing it back up
we've not been able to start the hosted-engine. Each time we try to start the
hosted engine we're getting the following messages:

## START

[root@bmrhev01 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-start
VM exists and is down, cleaning up and restarting
VM in WaitForLaunch
[root@bmrhev01 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-status

END ##

We've tried rebooting a number of times. Restarting various oVirt services.
Nothing appears to be resolving the issue. At this point, the only thing I
truly care about is migrating the guest VMs over to VMware. There's nothing
else in the RHEV environment I care about. I'm happy to settle with any of the
following, providing they can salvage the guest VMs:

a) Deleting and redeploying the hosted-engine.
b) Abandoning the hosted-engine and some how converting the guest VMs over to
VMware.

I don't have enough experience to know if any of the above is possible or the
repercussions of either of them. Any help from anyone would be very helpful.
I'm sorry to be a leach, rather than a contributor. I'm seriously in trouble
here and a kind heart would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Tim.

Hi Harry,

In case you're in a similar position to me, and simply looking to stand up your
hosted-engine just to migrate to a different hypervisor, I'm going through a
similar situation where I wasn't able to get my hosted-engine to boot. Below is

I've made some progress with exporting the VMs using the method I've linked in
my responses, albeit the process has been slow and painful.

Hello,

I had exactly the same problem.
I Started the grafana service before setting it up with engine-setup on a
Hosted Engine. and was unable to get to the login page.

I followed the proposed workaround : stopped grafana, removed
/var/lib/grafana/grafana.db and ran engine-setup
--reconfigure-optional-components again

I can no log into grafana with admin user, but there is no pre installed
dashboard or data sources available.

[ovirt-users] importing vm's from storage pool from 4.1.6.2-1 in to 4.4.6 fails due to lingering snapshot configuration in source

2021-06-21 Thread Charles Kozler
I know the subject is a bit wordy but let me try to explain

I have a 4.1 installation that I am migrating to 4.4. I placed the storage
domain into maintenance and then rsync'ed it to the storage I am using for
4.4. In 4.4 I import the domain and it comes in fine, however, when trying
to import some VM's it fails because it says it cannot find a disk. The
disk ID's I cannot find anywhere in 4.1 or 4.4 so I opened OVF_STORE after
upgrading the pool in 4.4 and look at the ovf file for some of the VM's
that are failing to import

I see this in the ovf configuration file -

ACTIVE
Active VM
2019/12/19 16:47:48

07d3447c-c640-4163-9cf1-74ce126d702a,59b5cfdf-015b-0333-004b-0397,8c48ea33-dc34-403a-90d2-a3e78776404c,1757809b-9685-4315-a92e-3ea82dc6d8a8,94a2c2b3-e02e-4b05-80eb-6f4b7a9701e7,248a9fd1-61f0-4c5a-b6ab-4630d433c6fa

These are the disk ID's I can see failing to import in engine.log

I am aware that importing a VM cannot support snapshots and have found
multiple mailing list posts around this, however, I do not have any
snapshots visible in 4.1 UI.

I also tried modifying OVF_STORE by untar'ing it and editing the ovf files
directly, however, this does not work as it ends up overwritten by ovirt
with the previous configuration

Any ideas? As noted, I cannot see any snapshots listed in 4.1 source pool
so I therefore cannot remove this stale configuration from the source and
upon importing in to 4.4 it fails because it cannot find the disks

I tried import partial and that still fails which to me seems like a bug
because the idea of the import partial is to still register the VM even if
it cant find disks

I also tried scanning domain for disks and update OVF's in the UI and it
does not help anything

 Hi,

I updated packages on my system today and ovirt is no longer starting,
turns out this is happening because of a selinux denial for a new
 feature of libvirt-7.4.0-1.el8s.x86_64

 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1966842

a workaround is suggested in the ticket or you can set selinux to
 permissive until selinux-policy is updated.

 Greetings

 Klaas

It's also affecting the development internally. As far as I understand, if

You need to use thick VM disks on Gluster, which is the default behavior for a
long time. Also, check all bricks' free space. Most probably you are out of
space on one of the bricks (term for server + mountpoint combination).

2021-06-21 Thread jesado74
Hello; when I try to enter the graphical console to a vm I get the following
message:
Operation canceled: CA not found.

Change the certificates as the procedure says
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.1/html/administration_guide/appe-red_hat_enterprise_virtualization_and_ssl
And all services: ovirt-engine.service / ovirt-websocket-proxy /
ovirt-imagenio-proxy.service / ovirt-provider-ovn.service - are working
properly.
But there is something wrong.
This has happened to someone else when changing the certificates from the ovirt
engine to a third-party CA certificate.

Thanks.

[ovirt-users] RFC8482 and engine-setup

2021-06-21 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
Hello All,
recently I have changed my firewall and DNS server and I have noticed that
engine-setup warns with:
Failed to resolve engine.localdomain using DNS, it can be resolved only
locally.
The command used was: 'dig +noall +answer FQDN ANY'

It seems that according to RFC8482, ANY is deprecated and DNS can return
anything.Once such example is the output of 'dig wikipedia.org ANY' .
What are our options now ? I guess we can query for A and records ?

This update is the seventh in a series of stabilization updates to the 4.4
series.
How to prevent hosts entering emergency mode after upgrade from oVirt 4.4.1

Note: Upgrading from 4.4.2 GA or later should not require re-doing these
steps, if already performed while upgrading from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 GA. These
are only required to be done once.

Due to Bug 1837864 -
Host enter emergency mode after upgrading to latest build

If you have your root file system on a multipath device on your hosts you
should be aware that after upgrading from 4.4.1 to 4.4.7 you may get your
host entering emergency mode.

In order to prevent this be sure to upgrade oVirt Engine first, then on
your hosts:

   1.

Remove the current lvm filter while still on 4.4.1, or in emergency mode
   (if rebooted).
   2.

   Reboot.
   3.

Upgrade to 4.4.7 (redeploy in case of already being on 4.4.7).
   4.

Run vdsm-tool config-lvm-filter to confirm there is a new filter in
   place.
   5.

Only if not using oVirt Node:
   - run "dracut --force --add multipath” to rebuild initramfs with the
   correct filter configuration
   6.

   Reboot.

[ovirt-users] Re: Recovering from corrupted hosted-engine

2021-06-21 Thread timothy . dilbert
If anyone else runs into this issue, I've been able to recover one of the VMs
using the "qemu-img convert -O vmdk vmdiskfile vmdiskfile.vmdk" command
outlined in Howard Johnson's response linked below:

https://access.redhat.com/discussions/881153

Tried the same actions on a Linux machine, but CentOS is not loading, throwing
errors saying it can't find the /root or /boot partitions. I'm hopeful that I
can at least salvage a few of the Windows VMs currently held hostage in RHEV.
The UUID folder structure is hard to navigate for someone that doesn't know
what he's looking at (i.e. me) so I'm likely to have mixed results.

Other articles I've come across suggest that it should be possible to redeploy
the hosted-engine and import the existing Storage Domain, and the VMs should
reappear. I've not had success with this because I haven't been able to make
"IP.Address:/path/to/storage/domain" accessible, which is likely what faulted
the original hosted-engine.

Now that I've nuked the original hosted-engine, I'm stuck down the path I've
created for myself, either a) continuing with "qemu-img convert", or b)
figuring how to to make "cd IP.Address:/path/to/storage/domain" stop saying:
"No such file or directory".

If anyone has any tips, that would be much appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Customization of Ovirt VM Portal

2021-06-21 Thread Alessio B.
Hello to all,

please is there a way to customize the VM portal?
In my case I need to hide the "VNC console" value from the dropdown list inside
of selected VM properties and leave only "VNC Console Browser".
The user profile is "UserRole"

Thank you very much!

[ovirt-users] Re: Recovering from corrupted hosted-engine

2021-06-21 Thread timothy . dilbert

VMs.

[ovirt-users] Re: hosted-engine cannot can't communicate with vm

2021-06-21 Thread Harry O
Hi Timothy,

My hostedengine vm is running ok via virsh, libvirt and vdsm but my only issue
is that the ovirt-ha-agent on the hosts can't work with the vm anymore. Did you
get your vm up and running?

[ovirt-users] Re: Problems moving vm & templates between oVirt 4.3 & 4.4

2021-06-21 Thread Guillaume Pavese
I think I have now tried everything.
I saw that ova imports were failing with java.lang.NullPointerException in
engine.log.
It seemed to be a bug corrected in 4.3.9 as per release note :
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1789737
I upgraded ovirt-manager to 4.3.10 and used a hosts on ovirt-node 4.3.10 to
retry ova template import but it is still failing with :

In pure replica volumes , the bricks should be of the same size. If not - the

If the VM has thin qcow2 disks, it will grow slowly till it reaches its maximum

Well, I have one brick without space, 1.8TB.
In fact I don't know why, because I only have one VM on that domain storage

When I try to start the VM I get this error:

[ovirt-users] /var/log has less then 500MB free space left on

2021-06-21 Thread Andrei Verovski
Hi,

I started to get messages that /var/log has less then 500MB free space left on
out of 8GB.
du -h —max-depthh=1
reveals that openswitch log dir consumes 3.6GB, there are files as old as 2018.
Node software was installed on fresh CentOS 7.xx from oVirt admin web console.

I cleaned this directory, yet question remain - why logrotate service is not
running by default on oVirt node?
Or this is not recommended?

Thanks in advance.

2021-06-21 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
Exactly that one. Sadly, I got no clue how big is your snapshot(s). Maybe even
with those extra Gigs, it's still too much to merge it.
If you have any other VMs there, try to move their disks away in order to
release more space.
Otherwise, you will have to find another brick to extend the volume.
How many snapshots do you see in oVirt ? Maybe you have more than one snapshot.

[ovirt-users] Re: fresh ovirt node 4.4.6 fail on firewalld both host and engine deployment

2021-06-21 Thread ppetrou
Same situation.

I had to remove port 5900 from the host to complete the installation.

firewall-cmd --zone public --remove-port 5900/tcp --permanent

As you have already mentioned there is no access to the hosted-engine vm, so as
a workaround I commented out the open port task in the following role. This
worked fine. I assume the port must be opened by default in the hosted-engine
vm image.

/usr/share/ansible/collections/ansible_collections/ovirt/ovirt/roles/hosted_engine_setup/tasks/bootstrap_local_vm/05_add_host.yml

# - name: Open a port on firewalld
#firewalld:
# port: "{{ he_webui_forward_port }}/tcp"
# permanent: false
# immediate: true
# state: enabled

It looks like a fixed issue in a very old ansible version.
https://github.com/ansible/ansible/issues/23895
Not sure why we see this here. There are no leading spaces in the port as the
issue mentions and I cannot replicate the issue in the host using the following
playbook.

---
- name: test firewalld
  hosts: localhost
