We are planning on building a hyper-converged cluster from scratch
because we planned and bought the hardware before the announcement from
Red Hat. We're glad to hear that there are no plans to remove Gluster
from oVirt.

Gluster ansible roles for deploying new hyperconverged setups are
currently broken due to the lack of the packaging of a few collections
on the gluster side.

They're working on it, I think they'll fix that soon.
For existing setups, upgrades should work just fine. About the support
for Gluster, the Gluster community didn't announce any planned EOL for
the project so as long as it's maintained there's no reason to remove
it from oVirt.
Downstream wise, RHGS announced EOL in 2024 so for RHV, Red Hat is
deprecating Gluster as storage to be used for storage domains.
This would mean the community should help testing Gluster with oVirt
to keep it working as Red Hat is lowering the effort on testing it.

I recall a few months ago that the announcement was made to
deprecate Gluster anyway, but I don't think the original plan was
to remove support for it until later, but that due to some package
dependencies, it needed to go away in 4.5.

We had to drop the roles in oVirt Node due to broken dependencies but
that was fixed and it's back in for 4.5.0 GA.

I was hoping to get all of my storage migrated onto Synology
hardware later this year prior to upgraded to 4.5, but if Gluster
is still supported and will work, perhaps I should go ahead and
upgrade.

I'm open to feedback.
Posting to the list, as I'm sure others are in the same scenario
as me.

Anyone who can provide feedback on this scenario?

[ovirt-users] AMD Ryzen 5600G unsupported?

2022-04-20 Thread Gilboa Davara
Hello all,

I'm building adding a Ryzen 5 5600G workstation to an existing AMD
Threadripper cluster (The existing machine use the 3960X CPU) and the
cluster rejects the new host as it fails to recognize the host CPU as
either "Secure AMD Epyc" or "AMD Epyc".
All hosts are using a fully updated CentOS 8 Streams.
I assume the 5XXX family has yet to be supported by oVirt.

Can I somehow force oVirt / HE to recognize the new host?

Maybe you did not add a cluster with some hosts to the new data center,
or the host is still installing?

The normal flow is:
1. Create data center
2. Create cluster in the new data center
3. Add at least one host to data center
4. Wait until host is up
5. Add first storage domain

[ovirt-users] Re: No Host listed when trying to create a Storage Domain

2022-04-20 Thread louisb
I've created a new "Data Center" in this case. When I do select the default
"Data Center" I get the same results, are you aware of a work around for this
issue? I will file/create a engine UI bug report for this issue.

Thanks

You missed the fact that the selected Data Center is "Default", and
you don't have
any hosts in the default data center.

Please file engine UI bug about this. If there are no hosts in the
Default data center,
it should not be disabled since there is no way to create storage without hosts.

The selected data center must have at least one host.

[ovirt-users] No Host listed when trying to create a Storage Domain

2022-04-20 Thread louisb
I'm trying to create a new storage domain, I've successfully created a new
"Data Center" and Cluster with no issues during the process. However, when I
try to created a new storage domain the pull down menu bar is blank. Therefor,
I'm unable to create a new storage domain.

What might I have missed or not configure properly to prevent the menu bar from
getting populated?

[ovirt-users] renewal of certificates

2022-04-20 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I see that my 4.4 engine has certificate that expired on mid August.
If I'm not wrong, you can run "engine-setup --offline" to have them
automatically renewed when you are near their expiration date...
Is this true? What is the number of days offset I need to get them renewed?
Are there any warnings I can set to have a reminder of engine and hosts
certificates expiration, so that an admin can proactively renew them, and
avoid VMs going in unknown state with needed downtime in that case?

Thanks,
Gianluca

[ovirt-users] How to add an AlmaLinux 8 template?

2022-04-20 Thread ovirt . org
Hi, I'm looking for instructions on how to add the AlmaLinux template, resp. I
can create and seal a template as an image. but I'm interested in how to do it
via cloud instances of qcow2 and cloud-init in the
sense:https://wiki.almalinux.org/cloud/Generic-cloud-on-local.html#almalinux-guest-os-support

I can't find the instructions ideally step by step.

Thanks you very much for support and advice.

Go to the "Manage vGPU" (Virtual Machine -> Host Devices -> Manage
vGPU) and add it to "Optional driver parameters" (see attached
screenshot)
