The oVirt Team is happy to announce the availability of the Alpha
 version of the 3.2 Release.

 Some high level release notes:

 * oVirt Node is not available at this time. A couple of late release
blockers were found that prevent it from working. We hope to have this
cleaned up in the next few days.

 * oVirt Guest Agent is not available at this time. It should be
available in the next couple days. In the meantime, the one from
previous versions should still work in most cases.

 * Packages are currently only available on Fedora 18 [1]

 * Instructions for installation can be found on the wiki [2]

 Feedback is very welcome.

[Users] can't add hosts with latest ovirt nightly (3.2)

2012-12-05 Thread Cristian Falcas
Hi,

The latest otopi installer is failing with the following error:

virtualization support AuthenticAMD (cpu: True, bios: False)
and
RuntimeError: Hardware does not support virtualization

Running rdmsr also says that virtualization is not enabled in bios:
./rdmsr --bitfield 4:4 0xc0010114
0

Is the bios flag mandatory for virtualization? On the same machine
virt-manager works and can start virtual machines.

I can't check now what is in bios, but I will update with the status when I
have a chance to check.

Best regards,
Cristian Falcas

3.1.0.4 is latest 3.1 version, not beta?
next beta should be 3.2 versioned

Those are the versions from http://*ovirt*.org/releases/:
latest 3.1: ovirt-engine-3.1.0-4.fc17.noarch.rpm
beta: ovirt-engine-3.1.0-4.fc17.noarch.rpm

This is a response from an older thread from Yair Zaslavsky:

there is no code allowing to add simple-authentication domains to

In the past we did have the ability to do that, but there are several

[Users] problems adding a domain

2012-11-29 Thread Cristian Falcas
Hi all,

I had some problems with the beta version and I tried again the nightly

correctly. Trying to add a domain, I got this in the logs:

Hi all,

i can't start the ovirt engine anymore.

The error is:

Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.

It seems that the error appears when the parameter -XX:+UseCompressedOops
is set. If I run the java command wothour it, the program starts.

java -version
java version 1.7.0_09-icedtea
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (fedora-2.3.3.fc17.1-i386)

[Users] trying to change web root for engine

2012-11-22 Thread Cristian Falcas
Hi all,

I'm trying to change the root of the engine applications to something like
/ovirt/.

I updated those files, but it's not enough:
- /usr/share/ovirt-engine/engine.ear/META-INF/application.xml (all
context-root)
- /etc/httpd/conf.d/ovirt-engine.conf (roxyPass /ovirt/)

The welcome portal is at site/ovirt/ and working correctly.

The links go to site//ovirt/UserPortal, etc, but nothing happens: just a
blank page.

If I change the url to https it's the same: blank page.

Can someone help me with this?

Best regards,

I don't think this is really supported, there are some services that
assumes all applications are at root. Especially the ovirt-node.

I think this is planned to be changed at release 4.0.

You can create redirect from /ovirt to / but I don't think that this is
 what you want.

 Alon

Thank you for your answer.

I will do it with virtualhosts then.

Doing a netstat only shows the http port (8700) being opened.

[Users] I don't know how to add AD users

2012-11-19 Thread Cristian Falcas
Hi,

I'm trying to add some users to ovirt using an AD.

This is the configuration I used for a mediawiki site, which is working
correctly:
$wgAuth = new LdapAuthenticationPlugin();
$wgLDAPUseLocal = true;
$wgLDAPDomainNames = array( a_domain);
$wgLDAPServerNames = array( a_domain=site.example.com);
$wgLDAPEncryptionType = array( a_domain=clear);
$wgLDAPSearchStrings = array( a_domain=rom_domain\\USER-NAME);
$wgLDAPBaseDNs = array( a_domain=dc=company,dc=com);

Those are the commands I tried using:
engine-manage-domains -action=add
-domain=site.example.com-provider=ActiveDirectory -user=
user.name -interactive

engine-manage-domains -action=add -domain=a_domain
-provider=ActiveDirectory -user=user.n...@company.com -interactive

engine-manage-domains -action=add -domain=a_domain
-provider=ActiveDirectory -user=user.n...@site.example.com -interactive

And the output on all tries:
Enter password:

Error: Authentication Failed. Please verify the fully qualified domain name
that is used for authentication is correct.. Problematic domain is:
domain_used_in_command
Failure while applying Kerberos configuration. Details: Authentication
Failed. Please verify the fully qualified domain name that is used for
authentication is correct.

Can someone help me with the correct parameters?

You don't add an user this way. You add the domain. You have to pass the
domain admin user and the domain admin password.
Then you can use the domain within the engine. e.g. search users, add
 access rights for vms etc.
Even login to the engine and assigning rights within the engine you can
 handle from the engine itself.

That was the configuration needed for the wiki extension used for ldap
authentication.

So the admin users is needed in order to retrieve the list of users only?

Can someone recommend the simplest ldap server installation I could use for
this? I was thinking first at freeipa, but it's not compatible with
mod_ssl, which is required by ovirt.

 Hi all,

I see that exporting a VM with ThinProvisioning will make an image with
the full disk size, instead of the currently used size:
 - VM has a 20GB disk
 - installed OS is taking 1.3GB
 - exported disk is taking 20GB

Is this mandatory? Couldn't the export make a file with the same size,
also sparse? It seems it only does a copy of the folder and the normal
linux cp can make a sparse copy.

I don't understand what you mean by raw.

I was saying that the same file could be copied as a sparse file instead.

Re: [Users] export VM

2012-11-19 Thread Cristian Falcas
Shrinking can also be made with the normal cp from linux:

cp --sparse=always

This will create usually files smaller then the original even.

But maybe this can be fixed from the source. Exporting some images that
have 10s/100s of gigabytes but only use a few gb is time and space
consuming with no benefits.

best regards,

 Hi Cristian,
I don't know what ovirt is doing but if the final file is a raw image, you
can shrink it with qemu-img and transform it in a qcow2.
What I think was on the head of who implemented this is that you export a
VM to a NAS that has normally Teras of space, so it is more compatible to
save it in raw format. My 2 cents :-)

You don't add an user this way. You add the domain. You
 have to

any domain user will do, doesn't have to be an admin.

If you believe that sanlock should be allowed search access on the Storage
 directory by default.
Then you should report this as a bug.
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access.
 Do
allow this access for now by executing:

[Users] export VM

2012-11-18 Thread Cristian Falcas
Hi all,

I see that exporting a VM with ThinProvisioning will make an image with the
full disk size, instead of the currently used size:
- VM has a 20GB disk
- installed OS is taking 1.3GB
- exported disk is taking 20GB

Is this mandatory? Couldn't the export make a file with the same size, also
sparse? It seems it only does a copy of the folder and the normal linux cp
can make a sparse copy.

thank you,

[Users] does engine require connectivity to ovirtmgmt interface

2012-11-18 Thread Cristian Falcas
Hi all,

Is connectivity between engine and the ovirtmgmt interface required?

I have currently a strange setup where the engine is in another network
then the host. Connectivity is from engine to host only (and a few ssh
tunnels).

Like this I can't see any disks (but I can create new ones) and also I
can't see any hosts from the networks tab.

Everything else seems to work: create/start VM, start spice agent, etc.

There is nothing in the logs to alert me of any errors.

Best regards,
Cristian Falcas

 Hi Cristian,

L3 connectivity is required between the engine and the host. The interface
where the 'ovirtmgmt' network is set is the one that should be able to have
 this connectivity to the engine.

 Please elaborate on this..

You can create a disk and it succeeds but you dont see it in the disks tab?
Can you see a host that is in the same network as the engine or is it
missing from the networks tab also (I guess you mean Hosts sub-tab on the
 networks main tab)?

Everything else seems to work: create/start VM, start spice agent, etc.

Hi,

Yes, I was referring to hosts sub-tab from the networks tab.

Strange thing, this morning everything is working correctly. Maybe it was
some caching from the browser, because I played with different engines
during the day.

Hi,

Sorry, but I couldn't find anything related on how to add floppy images to

Any pointers on where to look?

Best regards

 Hi,

Can I somehow attach a second cdrom device to a virtual machine?
I was thinking on adding the virtio drivers for Windows OSs this
 way.

you are using ovirt-sdk from stable repo and engine from nightly
   repo,
   those doesn't work together.

Funnily enough, you will find it is actually in Fedora's stable
updates repository and you can tell from the dist tag that is where
this user (and many others) picked it up from. Refer to:

  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=851893
 Correction, this is the BZ:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=869457

 https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2012-14464/ovirt-engine-sdk-3.2.0.2-1.fc17?_csrf_token=13cb5ad1a0d3d9177fa143d1724754d8b65fb99e

This has been causing a variety of issues for users since it was
pushed in early October. Here are some others from my logs:

Oct 16 06:13:04 gestahltAIO: Error: could not create ovirtsdk API
  object
Oct 23 19:58:03 Rudde okey here is my Error Exception: Error:
could not create ovirtsdk API object
Oct 27 08:13:32 yaro014 after yum update i'm getting error ovirt
Error: could not create ovirtsdk API object while engine-setup,
could anyone advice ? cannot find anything in google

It breaks installation of oVirt 3.1 AIO on F17 and also I believe
some of the tools for normal installs. In future it would be
better if we did not push incompatible versions to stable Fedora
releases, it directly convenes Fedora's updates policy.

  Thanks,

  Steve

Re: [Users] allinone setup can't add storage

2012-11-07 Thread Cristian Falcas
Bummer.

And the sdk from nightly is not working because it's too new, from what I
sow on the mailing list?

I have errors even when I'm trying to add the storage manually, from the
engine.Should I give up on nightly and use the beta ones, or there is an
other solution for this?

 I do:

I insert correct password but I get:

I do not want to use certificates, only passwords. And,

 What can I do?

Can you help me understand how this works:
- if I set the console to vnc, windows found a video driver for a
cirrus logic card
- if I set the console to spice, it sees the qxl graphic adaptor

What is the point of using different drivers?

In case I connect only via rdp, does it matter how the console is set?
Which one is recommended?

Just to let others how to load the guest tools easily in the VM:
- download the exe file
- make an iso from the file:
  mkisofs -J -r -o spice-guest-tools.iso ./spice-guest-tools-0.1.exe
- give the proper attributes:
  chown vdsm:kvm spice-guest-tools.iso
- copy it to the iso folder
- assign the new iso to the VM

 ofer/mike/moran - thoughts?

The current build has the following make command:

 make BUILD_FLAGS=-Pgwt-admin,gwt-user -Dgwt.userAgent=gecko1_8
 RPM_RELEASE_VERSION=${RPM_RELEASE_VERSION} rpm

If you can tell me the correct options, I'm happy to update it, but I
don't know the right options since I'm mostly unfamiliar with the engine
 build process.

To build all the locales and all the browsers you have to skip the
-Dgwt.userAgent=gecko_1.8 option and add the -Pall-langs profile:

 make BUILD_FLAGS=-Pgwt-admin,gwt-user -Pall-langs
 RPM_RELEASE_VERSION=${RPM_RELEASE_VERSION} rpm

Alternatively, if you want to build a custom combination you can use the
browsers and locales you need. For example to build everything explicitly:

 make BUILD_FLAGS=-Pgwt-admin,gwt-user
 -Dgwt.userAgent=ie6,ie8,ie9,gecko1_8,safari,opera
 -Dgwt.locale=default,es,fr,ja,pt_BR,zh_CN
 RPM_RELEASE_VERSION=${RPM_RELEASE_VERSION} rpm

From that command you can then remove the browsers or locales that you
 don't want to build.

 Hi,

Does anybody know why I can't see anything in IE9? This is from a
 Windows 7 machine.

The menus appear, the pages change when I click them, but nothing is
 displayed (see attached screenshot).

 Best regards,

It looks like IE9 permutation of the WebAdmin hasn't been compiled.
 Try building with the following:
 mvn clean install -Pgwt-admin -Dgwt.userAgent=ie9

Selinux was enforcing until now, but I set it to permissive:

getenforce

Do you still need the vdsm logs?
