[ovirt-users] USB host support?

2019-07-01 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

I'm in communication with a company that thinks about RHV.

One of the requirements is USB host support (which will be on the nodes,
not on the desktops). I haven't found any way to connect USB to a VM other
then through SPICE, but this method won't help as these dongles won't be on
desktops.

Is this in the road map of oVirt?

I want to add a node to an existing ovirt installation.

Previously, the only thing that was required to add a new node, was a

No, I didn't install the RPM. From past experience (and according to the docs

don't need to as it takes care of it. Few months ago when I tested it, it
worked well on a new CentOS install.

[ovirt-users] change cache behavior per VM?

2019-02-12 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

With KVM (and using tools like virt-manager) you can set the cache behavior
like write-back, write-through etc. etc..

Can this be done by oVirt? looks like oVirt "kills" ZFS servers as it
insists to wait until every bit has been written to disk, and I don't need
it (my oVirt is not for production, and there are snapshots in ZFS for
that).

[ovirt-users] Re: oVirt 4.3.1 test day

2019-02-12 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

Well, there is a severe bug that I complained about it on 4.2 (or 4.1? I
don't remember) and it's regarding "yanking the power cable".
Basically I'm performing a simple test: kill all hosts immediately to
simulate a power loss without UPS.

For this test I have 2 nodes, and 4 storage domains: hosted_storage (that
was setup during the HE installation), 1 iSCSI domain, 1 NAS domain and 1
ISO domain.

After all the nodes loose power, I power them on and the following
procedure happens:
1. The node with HE finishes booting, and it takes few minutes until the HE
is up.
2. When the HE is up, all the storage domains comes back to life as online
and VM's with high availability starting to boot.
3. Few minutes later, *all* (with the exception of hosted_storage) storage
domains are going down
4. After about 5 minutes, all the other storage domains which went down,
are coming up, but by then, and VM's without high availability that are not
hosted on hosted_storage remains down, you'll need to power them manually
back.

This whole procedure takes about 15-25 minutes after booting the nodes, and
this issue is always repeatable, just kill the power to the nodes, power
them up again and see for yourself.

The solution would be to change the code and if a storage domain is up - *leave
it up*, skip the check.

Thanks

Thanks, I will..

Right now I wanted to record part 2 of importing Windows VM's from ESXi,
but since the VM is using UEFI, the coversion fails (without mentioning
anything, I had to find it's placing the log in vdsm/import/) and there I
found this lovely message...

libguestfs: command: run: \ -rf /tmp/libguestfsy0f0X6
[ 205.5] Checking if the guest needs BIOS or UEFI to boot
virt-v2v: error: this guest cannot run on the target, because the target
does not support uefi firmware (supported firmware on target: bios)

Umm, I was sure that oVirt 4.3 now supports UEFI...

[ovirt-users] Re: Upgrade from oVirt engine 3.6 to 4.0 - clean install of OS?

Actually, the current version only supports ovirt 4.1 onwards.

Thanks

And as I said, I had the exact same issue on ESXi with Intel Xeon E5620, so
it's not related to AMD CPU's.

[ovirt-users] changes in oVirt 4.3 and vGPU?

Hi,

I just installed a Tesla T4 card, installed the nvidia's RPM, I see the

Following their instructions, I'm trying to set a Windows 10 VM to use the
vGPU (the VM works without any vGPU), I get this error in the event...

VM Win-10-test is down with error. Exit message: internal error: qemu

Could someone explain to me what am I missing and what to do? I don't see
any docs about it.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Re: ovirt-imageio-proxy upload and status

2019-02-07 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi Daniel,

There is no failure when uploading the ISO. I tried to upload it both to
NFS and to iSCSI. In both cases it completes the upload and the status
remains "completed".
I can use the ISO from the storage domain without any problems so there are
no errors.

[ovirt-users] vm autostart and priorities

2019-02-07 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

I'm migrating my VM's to oVirt from ESXI and I've only got one left on the
ESXi side - a VM which provides me DNS, mail and DHCP services. Without
this VM's, I can't access the internet.

The only issue that prevents me from migrating this VM to oVirt and "kill"
the ESXi machine, is that I need to start this VM's upon oVirt node power
up (auto start), so if the power goes down and comes back, I'll have my
infrastructure up and running automatically within minutes.

Is there a way to auto start specific VM's or better - start VM's based on
specific orders upon boot of the nodes? I think it's a very important
feature.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] performance issues with Windows 10

2019-02-05 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

I'm doing some very simple disk benchmarks on Windows 10, both with ESXI
6.7 and oVirt 4.3.0.
Both Windows 10 Pro guests have all the driver installed.
the "Storage" (Datastore in VMWare and storage domains in oVirt) comes from
the same ZFS machine, both mounted as NFS *without* any parameters for NFS
mount.
The ESXI is running on HP DL360 G7 with E5620 CPU, while the oVirt node is
running on IBM X3550 M3 with dual Xeon E5620. There are no memory issues as
both machines have plenty of free memory and free CPU resources.

Screenshots:

- Windows 10 in vSphere 6.7 - https://imgur.com/V75ep2n
- Windows 10 in oVirt 4.3.0 - https://imgur.com/3JDrWLx

As you can see, while oVirt lags a bit in 4K Read, the write performance is
really bad.

How can this be improved?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Wrong CPU performance report

Hi,

I'm running oVirt 4.2.7.1. I installed Windows 10 pro as a guest, along

While Windows reports a CPU usage of something like 2-4% when idle, oVirt
reports 24-27% CPU usage.

Bug? should I report it?

Re: [Users] big problem with ovirt on Fedora 19

2013-07-17 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Alex, IMHO the general problem is that solutions like DNSMasq or even
create some local DNS servers are (IMHO anyway) not a solution for anyone
who wants to first try to install it for testing.

Thanks,
Hetz

2013/7/17 Alexandre Santos santosa...@gmail.com

 Hi Hetz,
you can use dnsmasq as your local DNS server. I myself use it on several
 scenarios.

 Hi,

Many posts on the net suggest that if you want to install oVirt on a
single machine and you don't have (or don't want to setup) a DNS server,
you can stick your host name in /etc/hosts with the IP of the server and be
 done with this issue.

Unfortunately, this trick won't work any more as the engine-setup script
uses nslookup and nslookup ignores anything in /etc/hosts

So right now I have a Fedora 19 and I cannot even install oVirt latest.

 Any help?

There is a bug I opened about this:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=985168

 Thanks,
 Hetz

Hi,
Following Sandro advice and since I didn't have any data in the PostgreSQL,
I simply removed the data folder and restarted the setup. There was another
error which I mailed here and CC'd Sandro

Hetz

 Hi Sandro,

I just tried it. I let it create the DB automatically but when it's
installing, it stops in the middle to ask for passowrd, and after I use any
 password, it gives an error:

[ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Misc configuration': Command
 '/usr/share/ovirt-engine/dbscripts/create_schema.sh' failed to execute

I'm enclosing the related log file.

btw, I'm on the #ovirt in irc.oftc if you need more testing..

  Thanks,
 Hetz

  Hi Hetz,

Can you try to do an engine-cleanup. Uninstall everything including
postgres, upgrade otopi, and then try to install ovirt. Let us know if it
 works

  Hi,

I installed the all in one plugin and run the engine-setup-2 script. it
detects the plugin, and I'm using the iptables option. problem is that it
writes the wrong lines in iptables:

  -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 5634-6166 -j ACCEPT
  -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tcp --dport 49152-49216 -j ACCEPT

iptables does not accept the minus sign when mentioning port range, so
5634-6166 should be 5634:6166 (I wish it would accept the minus sign,
 it's
a stupid thing that it doesn't).

 Confirmed, thanks!
 Patch is available[1].

So the script failes to start iptables due to these wrong lines, and I'm
stuck with oVirt that doesn't work.

You can select no firewall to workaround this.

  Log file - enclosed.
