As you probably noticed there were no regular releases after oVirt 
4.5.4<https://ovirt.org/release/4.5.4/> in December 2022.

Despite the calls to action to the community and to the companies involved with 
oVirt, there have been no uptake of the leading of the oVirt project yet.

The developers at Red Hat still dedicating time to the project are now facing 
the fact they lack the time to do formal releases despite they keep fixing 
platform regressions like the recent ones due to the new ansible changes. That 
makes a nightly snapshot setup a more stable environment than oVirt 4.5.4.

For this reason, we would like to suggest the user community to enable nightly 
repositories for oVirt by following the procedure at: 
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/dev-process/install-nightly-snapshot.html

This will ensure that the latest fixes for the platform regressions will be 
promptly available.

[ovirt-users] Illegal Disk after Removing Snapshot

Hi,

Using ovirt 4.5.4 with all CentOS 8 Stream Host. Having an issue, whenever we 
tried to delete any snapshot of any vm, it will failed. Second try will get us 
succeed. But if the snapshot already deleted, and we shutdown the VM, we cannot 
turned it on again. It showing illegal disk error. Any idea about this issue ?

[ovirt-users] Issue Uploading Disk Image to Storage Domain in 4.5

Hi,

Recently just realized having an issue that I cant upload any disk image. 
Realized something strange. I have 2 different DC (for example DC A and DC B). 
I want to upload an image to storage domain that exist in DC B. But when I 
tried to upload the image in the prompt which shows up after choosing Upload -> 
Start in Storage Domain, it shows DC A, even if the Storage Domain resides on 
DC B. And the hosts in the prompt only shows the hosts that exist in DC A. When 
I tried to start the upload process it always fails. Anybody having this 
strange issues like this ?

Hi Nur,

ntpd has a 300sec limit for synchronization. If you want a more flexible NTP 
client, use chronyd.
If you prefer to use ntpd, you should have ntpdate as a boot client and ntpd as 
a runtime client.
When the server boots, the ntpdate client will sync time no matter the 
difference. As a boot client, it runs only once and exits. Then the ntpd 
service starts, and keep your server clock in sync with an external source.
On distributions like CentOS and similar, ntpdate reads the external time 
sources configuration from ntpd.conf. You should need booth packages and 
services installed and enabled:
I prefer chronyd since it does not need any extra service or procedure to keep 
clock synchronization.

[ovirt-users] Failed to Change Disk in Windows VM Setup

I’m having an issue, where I cant change Disk in Windows Installation Setup. 
Don’t know what the cause is, but on 4.4.7 and before it working as it supposed 
to be. Because of this issue, I can’t load virtio driver disk to install 
Windows using virtio. Is anybody got this strange issue like me ?

[ovirt-users] Upload Image to NFS Storage Domain Doesn't Work

Hi,

Lastly in 4.4.6, I have a problem that I couldn’t upload any image to storage 
domain without clicking Test Connection. Well, after it was acknowledge as a 
bug and solved at 4.4.7 now I have similar issue. If I upload any image to 
Storage Domain that uses NFS it only show locked, and then showing OK even if 
no data are uploaded (can confirm 5GB ISO showing OK after only 1 second). This 
issue only occurs with NFS backend, another storage domain that uses iSCSI work 
fine though. Any idea how to solve this ? I’m using NFS Storage Domain for 
storing ISO and this issue bugged me all the time.

After upgrading to 4.4.7 and when the registered bug was fixed in 4.4.7, this 
issue still occurred in my environment. I need to click test connection first 
to make my ISO upload process working. Another finding in imageio logs is :

I don't know about any issues using the API, and it is used by backup
applications to backup and restore vms, so it should be more reliable.

Already tried it at one 4.4.7 host, and it solves the issue.
Maybe this issue should marked as a critical one, because the host is unusable 
at all if upgraded to 4.4.7.


4.4.7 and I can’t migrate any VM or HE from 4.4.6 host to 4.4.7.

I update the hosted engine to 4.4.7 and one of the 2 nodes where the engine is 
running.
Current status is:
- Hosted engine at 4.4.7 running on Node 0
- Node 0 at 4.4.6
- Node 1 at 4.4.7

Now, moving Node 0 to maintenance successfully moved the SPM from Node 0 to 
Node 1 but while trying to migrate hosted engine I get on Node 0 vdsm.log:

[ovirt-users] Issue With HE HA after upgrading to 4.4.7

Hi, Recently I’m upgrading our server cluster from 4.4.6 to 4.4.7 After 
upgrading HE, and several Hosts, every single Host that upgraded and activated 
have an issue with HA Score. It always shows HA Score 0, rebooting the host 
doesn’t help. Any idea how to check this issue ?

Upgrade Script failed in yum. When I use nodectl info, the new ovirt-ng image 
was not installed at all.
Where should I look to debug this ? I can’t afford to lose any data on this 
local storage domain if I want to upgrade.

If it's the same problem that I ran into then it's the latest version of 
edk2-ovmf.  I'm not sure why it was pushed into the repos without a fixed 
libvirt to go with it.

[ovirt-users] Question about Template and Storage Domain

Hi,

Want to ask about template. For example I have a several template (with disk) 
stored in some Storage Domain. If I create a VM from the template, and when I 
change the parameter of cloned disk into another storage domain (different with 
where the template are stored). The VM always failed to be created. This only 
occurs in VM creation phase, if I create the VM at same storage domain where 
the templates are stored, it created successfully. Is this are “normal” 
behavior ?

I also end up with the same problem today. How did rollback yum i see many yum 
updates in the yum history.

Here is what the error says.

The host CPU does not match the Cluster CPU Type and is running in a degraded 
mode. It is missing the following CPU flags: model_IvyBridge, spec_ctrl. Please 
update the host CPU microcode or change the Cluster CPU Type.

[ovirt-users] CPU Compatibility Problem after Upgrading Centos 8 Stream Host

Hi,
This morning I have a problem that suddenly my Host (Using Centos 8 Stream, not 
oVirt Node) showing error with Cpu Compatibility. It says my CPU doesn’t have 
Haswell-noTSX and spec_ctrl flag. After downgrading the kernel back from 4.18.0 
– 305 to 4.18.0 – 301.1 and rollback yum update, it working again. Do anybody 
having same issue ?
I’m using Xeon E5-2695v4 with cluster compatibility Secure Intel Haswell. Using 
oVirt 4.4.6 on CentOS Stream host.

Thanks. Using this q356 confirm it works. But found another strange issue. On 2 
Core CPU  VM, one of the vCPU are used 100% by system. Switching back to i440fx 
and that problem is gone. Don’t know what’s wrong. Will try to find another 
clue and ask another BSD user for this.

Running the dmesg messages through my mind as I remember them, the vio hardware 
may be all PCIe based, which would explain why this won't work on a virtual FX 
440FX system, because those didn't have PCIe support AFAIK.

Any special reason why you'd want them based on 440FX?

And I also tested with GhostBSD, which is still 12.* based, and that doesn't 
seem to have vio support, at least I could not see a hard disk there, which 
confirms your observation there.

I've just given it a try: works just fine with me.

But I did notice, that I chose virtio-scsi when I created the disk, don't now 
if that makes any difference, but as an old-timer, I still got "SCSI" ingrained 
as "better than ATA".

Chose FreeBSD 9.2 x64 as OS type while creating the VM (nothing closer appears 
in the selection box), again don't know if there are better choices.

iperf3 shows slightly lower performance than a typical Linux guest, still 
rather close to 10Gbit/s on my network from the FreeBSD13 guest to a host 
"next-door", around 40Gbit/s VM to host.

Verfied usage of vtnet0/VirtIO NIC and vtscsi0/VirtIO SCSI via dmesg.

I’m having an issue, if I’m using q35 and using virtio disk + virtio network 
adapter, the guest OS  wont detect any disk. I440fx work fine. This issue 
happened on FBSD 12.2 too. On FBSD 13 release note, it was said q35 should 
working okay now, a lot of people using pc-q35-4.2 machine type confirm it 
works now on vanilla KVM. But seems it still doesn’t work on oVirt.

Please file ovirt-engine bug, testing the connection should not be required
for upload.

This is most likely a bug introduced in engine 4.4.5.

[ovirt-users] Strange Issue with imageio

Hi,

After upgrading to 4.4.5 from 4.4.4, I’m having a strange issue. Whenever I try 
to upload something (image or iso) to Storage Domain without clicking Test 
Connection, upload process wont start. It will shows the file area already 
uploaded but no upload process. When I try to open the log, seems if I don’t 
click test connection, it wont open any session in imageio. Upload process will 
going normally, if I click Test connection first and proceed to upload.
Any idea why this is happening ? Don’t have this issue before in 4.4.4. 
Rebooting the engine doesn’t help either.

Fixes the issue by changing  OVESETUP_ENGINE_CORE/enable=bool:'False' to 
OVESETUP_ENGINE_CORE/enable=bool:'True’
Still don’t know why it shows false, but now I can confirm after changing that 
to True, running engine-setup again upgraded my Engien to 4.4.5.

[ovirt-users] Engine Upgrade to 4.4.5 Version Number Question

I’m currently trying to upgrade our cluster from 4.4.4 to 4.4.5. All using 
oVirt Node.
All host are successfully upgraded to 4.4.5 (I can see the image layer was 
changed from 4.4.4 to 4.4.5, cockpit also shows same version), but in Engine 
VM, already run engine-upgrade-check, upgrading ovirt-setup, running 
engine-setup successfully, reboot the engine but whenever I open the engine web 
page, it still showing  Version 4.4.4.5-1.el8. Is this version correct ? 
Because my second Cluster that use their own hosted engine shows different 
version (4.4.5.11-1.el8). Anybody having a same issues like me ?

Sorry, this is looks like a bug, caused by [1]. Would you like to
report it on bugzilla?

I think a workaround is to run engine-setup like this:

# engine-setup --otopi-environment=OVESETUP_SYSTEM/selinuxBooleans=multi-str:\

The shell will prompt with '> '. Just press Enter.

Martin - seems like I was wrong when commenting on [1] that it seems harmless...

Marcin: we should probably add separate-dwh to ovirt-system-tests or
something like that.

[ovirt-users] Upgrading DWH from 4.4.4 to 4.4.5

Hi,

I’m currently trying to upgrade my oVirt Cluster into 4.4.5. Hosted engine 
upgrade work successfully. But whenever I tried upgrading DWH on separate 
machine it keep giving me this error : Failed to execute stage 'Misc 
configuration': 'OVESETUP_SYSTEM/selinuxBooleans'

In engine-setup log :

Avoid using HostedEngine's storage domain for other VMs.You might get into 
situation that you want to avoid.

Hi,
We’re migrating our 10 physical host with 50 small VM to oVirt from VMware and 
so happy with its performance. There are two question that we want to ask :

  1.  Right now we are using one SAN with 4 LUN (each mapped into 1 specific 
volume) and configure the storage domain for each LUn (1 LUN = 1 Storage 
Domain). Is this configuration are good ? One more, about Hosted Engine, when 
we setup the cluster, it provision one storage domain, but the storage domain 
is not exlusively used by Hosted Engine, we use it too for other VM. Are this 
OK or it have a side impact ?
  2.  We’re kind of interested using Metric Store (Need performance metric 
history over the time), is it possible to deploy the Metric Store using smaller 
resources ? Our hardware is so small, we cant afford to use that lot of 
resources for the Metric Store.
